Ed025.bit surprised you sticking up for Trent so vehemently. you never had a good word for him bfr . said he was arrogant, big headed etc n I agree he was . but your own team have given more stick to your own players . ie Gordon, Blocking the road of other players cars . n going back to Nick Barmby, you had him terrored. so why the big swing in defence for trent.
{Ed025's Note - it being Trent is not the issue Strom, for me you dont boo your own players when they are representing the club, what other supporters do is not up to me mate but i have never done it, and certainly not if we had just won the league and they were part of it...but who am i to judge..

Trent case is different, it is personal and nothing to do with the club or performances. Its strictly personal.

How is it personal? Do you know him house?

I think, maybe, we should just stop singing YNWA now. It doesn't ring true.
Its not personal, because none of us know him. He's represented our club to the highest level and has done everything that has been asked of him.
You don't want to remember him as a legend or a great, that's fair enough, but to boo him, to abuse him and discredit him is nothing more than childish amd pathetic behaviour.
YNWA my arse.

We have seen far worse player performance / Transfer saga in the past and yet the fans never booed any player. While The club was battling with Arsenal for the title, Trent was busy negotiating a deal with Madrid. There is a lot of sentiments attached with the player and this transfer. we will see plenty of players leave this summer and not one would get a booing from the Fans. The guy has cost the club atleast £80 mill by running his contract down. His boyhood club.

Ed025 I get that view, but this is someone that is supposedly a red for life, leaving at the peak of his career for nothing and to a club that always seems to have our number.
I’m not saying booing him is right, but I do completely understand why some may have seems it as an appropriate reaction.
To many Liverpool is their life or maybe their 90 minute escape from it. It’s many’s dream to pull on that red shirt and walk out to 60,000 fans. So to see it thrown away will wind some up the wrong way.
Personally, I have no issue with him wanting to try something new. But could he not have had an honest conversation with the club last year, signed a contract similar to coutinho but had a modest release clause inserted into it? He gets his new lifestyle and we pocket something to reinvest.
{Ed025's Note - but we are not privvy to what went on at these talks WYred, what was offered, what playing time was guaranteed or even if he would be first choice in the future?, but lets be honest the reason he is leaving is because the club failed to secure his services by either telling him to sign or put him on the transfer list 18 months ago mate...and thats why you are getting no money for him, as we all know there is always another side to story,s like this..

Sorry but bollocks Tristan!
YNWA works two ways, the fans to the players and the players to the fans.
It a symbiotic relationship. The lad has walked away from us.

12 May 2025 08:22:02
Or the club thought they could convince him to stay Ed? let's face it he only told his manager he was leaving during the march international break, would he have started all the games he did this year if he was honest with Slot earlier?

Tristan is that not tarnishing every LFC fan under the same brush though.
I didn't boo yesterday but i wasn't offended or upset by the fans around me who did as its up to them.
If fans now decide to stop supporting Liverpool because of others actions then that's also up to them.

I can't help but feel that it is precisely because it is Liverpool and that Trent is a Scouser and a lifelong fan of the club and aspiring captain that he is receiving so much negativity from the fans, if it was anybody from anywhere else this probably wouldn't happen. I think it's sad and I absolutely don't condone it because I love the player and feel privileged to have seen him play, but given the context and the nature of the club I can sort of understand it ed.
I think the inexcusable thing though is how it made the rest of the team feel during the game, they clearly were affected by it, and I don't know why fans should continue to do it throughout the game when they can clearly see that.
Also credit to Trent for clapping the kop at the end of the game. The boy did as much as anybody to win us this title, I can understand if folks want to let him know about their displeasure but there's no need to insult him non stop, he has come out and taken responsibility for his decision.

Ed025 to me it's the fact that he not just leaving but he's leaving on a free/ bosman . we won't get a fee n that is criminal. you can blame our owners for not sorting this out last year but at the end of the day he knows what he's doing, it utterly disrespectful, morally wrong for a Scouser to do that to his own club . but the hero worshipping ( particularly on here ) is unbelievable. so i understand n agree with the boo's he gets . don't think he should put the shirt on again.
{Ed025's Note - i think you are right Strom that he should never wear the shirt again mate, its put a blight on what should be a celebration of the magnificent season the reds have had, its best for both parties i would say whatever side of the fence you are on..

Or the club thought they could convince him to stay Ed? let's face it he only told his manager he was leaving during the march international break, would he have started all the games he did this year if he was honest with Slot earlier?
{Ed025's Note - as i have said FM nobody outside of the 2 parties really knows the truth of what really went on mate, now its turned into a blame game that is disrupting what should really be the celebration of winning the league, its not a nice state of affairs to be honest and im getting sick of it..

It all comes down to whether you're the hysterical type or not.
The hysterical ones will boo and slag him off, most others will shrug their shoulders and say good luck.
There's bigger things to get upset about in life than a footballer leaving a club.
{Ed025's Note - you are so right Flash..

I was at the game with my son yday. T o BOO one of your own players is out of order for me, my opinion. Trent is still playing for LFC. Next season, if we are drawn against Real Madrid, he with the rest of his team, will be booed. But, not one of your own. i've supported LFC for 55 years, never and never would boo a player in our shirt. YNWA.

Let’s not forget he has hidden away and refused to do post game interviews and his brother was recorded himself laughing as we got beat by Newcastle, he’s a runt I have more respect for sua.

Timing is the most surprising thing in all of this. I would be surprised if he is in the the last two match day squads. Then we have the parade on the 26th this ain’t going to be a good look for him or the club either. It’s a shame for Trent as he has been great for the club but I guess that’s the price you pay.

Just want to weigh in on this one last time- a lot of times the folks who are most vocal about other people not having the right to tell Liverpool fans what to think about Trent abuse other fans for sticking up for the lad and for wishing him well, that line of thinking doesn't seem logically consistent to me, feel how you want to feel about it, there's no need to call other fans names or say they're up Trent's behind, that they're feeding his massive ego or whatever. I don't really understand all this posturing where falling on either side of love or hate for the player makes you that much more of a fan and less blind than people on the other side.
17.) 12 May 2025
12 May 2025 09:17:31
It’s all the gestures he did to the fans taking them for mugs that pees me off as well. He has played a very very selfish game. He doesn’t want to play for Liverpool even when they are successful. I won’t boo or clap him but good riddance.

Firstly I apologise for my ranting yesterday.
Now secondly, Ed025 with respect, while we don't know what went on, it doesn't take much intuition to put 2 and 2 together about what happened. We've all seen this kind of movie play out before.
I wouldn't have booed Trent, but anyone being piuous enough to condemn the booing and anger is just being unfair. The situation is a bit more nuanced then a 'transient employee' leaving the club.
If a friendship breaks down do you just dismiss it and say 'oh well, they were just a transient individual in my life! Who cares! '
Footballers obviously aren't our friends but we still have an emotional bond with them. If you think otherwise you're just being dishonest.
Ed002 may have preached the 'transient employee' line, but he was a high flying corporate guy in the upper echelons of football, far more emotionally detached from the tapestry of football than you all are, so let's get that straight.
Trent was the author of all the reasons why his relationship with the fans has broken down. He is entitled to chase his own dreams but the payig fans and club are entitled to far more respect and courtesy than he bothered to show.

Trent may as well be not wearing the shirt.
If it’s true he was offered a deal 14 months ago and then only informed the club in March he intends to leave, then that’s on him.
I wouldn’t have booed but can understand why some feel strongly about it.

Growing up in the 70s I’ve seen lots of players come and go I’ve never booed a player just not my thing with Trent if he’s run his contract down for his own good that’s up to him he’ll know that’s damaged his legacy if it’s the club that’s not offered soon enough that’s the club’s fault either way look forward not back.
