What do you think of this window overall so far. The best ever being the 77/ 78, 17/ 18 and the 23/ 24 windows for me. I think this window is up there with the best and could well get better still.

If the window ends in us bringing in marmardashvili frimpong, kerkez, wirtz, guehi and a striker (hopefully one of the higher rated ones) and we move on players that have served us well but will no longer take us forward, then I think this has been the best window I’ve experienced in my life time (32 years) . We would have upgraded in every position from last season.

23/ 24 we got a new midfield but wasn’t hugely exciting. 1987’s was incredible with Barnes, Beardsley et al leading to us romping to the title.

Funny that 23/ 24 is considered one of the best now whereas as the time fans were up in arms that we only signed Endo for holding midfield; Szob only joined because of the release clause; and Grav was an over priced Bayern cast off!

Hindsight is wonderful isn’t it!

You can’t judge any transfers until after the event surely?

We all said that the signings of Thiago and Keita were really exciting when we signed them but both flopped. We signed the next Alan Shearer in Andy Carroll which was exciting but he was a disaster.

I remember us signing El Hadj Diouf who had an amazing World Cup but he was a disgusting cretin and an awful player.

Karl Heinz Reidle, Jari Litmanen were exciting but were pretty average.

Then there were the signings of Salah, Mane, Robbo, Konate, Matip, Fabinho who weren’t particularly exciting at the time but turned out to be amazing.

There have been many transfer windows where we’ve thought we’ve done great business but it hasn’t worked out that way. This one could be the same.

Hopefully in years to come we can compare this window to 1987 or 2017/ 2018 but at the moment we have no idea.
