Question for ed2 if your about.

When we signed Bobby firmino i think you said we paid a lot more than was being reported and correct me if im wrong but paid a lot in agents fees and other stuff.

If you could turn back the clock would you make the same deal again.

Sorry if this has been asked.

ta very much.

{Ed002's Note - What I would have said is that Liverpool paid well over the "release clause" that German clubs could buy him for. The bottom line is that at the time the club paid well over the odds for a player compared to the going rate. The club have continued to pay premium rates for players they have tapped up and have paid absolutely exhorborant agent and representative fees and maintained a slush fund making other payments that should not be required. The owners are aware now that the club has been running rather wild in their attempts to buy success.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Buying success is better than Buying 6th place.

15 Aug 2019 19:29:51
lets not worry too much about finances tho eh ed!? 😉😉.

15 Aug 2019 19:37:06
He is a steal Wiltshire red, whatever the fee was.

15 Aug 2019 20:13:07
Elite player, changed the game last night.

15 Aug 2019 20:03:27
So will we see any difference in the future to how we buy players.

We see in the press Liverpool bid £38 million gor Firmino and assume that's about the right price.

ta very much.

Bobby is key to our attack, he’s the one who makes the front three click. Not only this, he defends from the front, he reminds me of Rushy in that respect.

Love Bobby, what a player, worth every overpaid penny.

15 Aug 2019 21:03:00
He proved last night he is the best centre forward in he world. Look at Brazil’s form now he’s actually playing, mane and salah wouldn’t score or be as creative if it weren’t for his selflessness. He would get into any team in world football. Our best 9 ever!

{Ed025's Note - lay off the drugs lerchy, hes a very good player yes, but not in the top 10 best centre forwards in the world...and not in the top 20 No 9,s that liverpool have ever had....and thats being very kind to him mate..

15 Aug 2019 21:13:27
Its a steal for sure. why the heck are you looking for an eds approval on this?

15 Aug 2019 21:20:58
He’s not your typical No9 -,25 mate

Bobby is the link to the function of the front 3. Watch him live mate and you’ll understand. He’s more than hair a striker.

{Ed025's Note - your right about him not being a typical No 9 drogie....they get a bunch of goals mate..

15 Aug 2019 21:23:05
Do I think Bobby is the world's best? No. Do I think I'd have a team without him? Definitely not! But I really don't think you can put him into any category. The lad is absolutely selfless and in modern day football that quality is hard to find.

{Ed025's Note - thats a very fair assessment LRG..

15 Aug 2019 21:27:32
Sound investment ideal player for Liverpool at this time along with mane he is the Liverpool player i most admire.
Its Dundee passing over the odds when it works out as long as it doesn't have long term implications hindering future investment. If you keep being successful that is less likely as revenues will grow in line with that success.
Dont continue competing for top honours then paying over the odds hurts a lot more and bites you on the ass.

Ed025

In a 433 system with two inverted wide fowards id say bobby is easily in the top ten fowards to play the central role.

When you switch to other formations he may not be as effective but in smimilar formations to liverpools he is quality and not too many fowards have his skill set.

Hes not a typical centre foward/ striker and there are many better strikers out there, i would not debate that. But in the false 9 position he plays i can't think of 10 fowards in world football that would play it better than he does. So for me he's definately top 10 for the specific false 9 role he plays.

His qualities link up play, press, work rate, quick thinking and creating space for other players are definately at the high end of the scale. And in a false 9 position those are the qualities you want your player to have.

Hes ours and i love him but if he was playing for someone else id be saying the same thing. Id say any players that play with would find it hard to swap him for anyone else such is his teamwork.

{Ed025's Note - i can live with that wolverine, but the statement from lerchy was that he was the best CF in the world?????, as a false 9 he is right up there mate..

15 Aug 2019 21:43:01
Poor assessment 25, usually you’re spot on mate.

{Ed025's Note - as a CF he is not all that drogie because he does,nt score enough goals mate, as a false 9 or playing in the hole he is a very good effective player thats all im saying..

15 Aug 2019 21:54:55
Lerchy, I think you've gone slightly over the top there.

I really rate Firmino first of all. He's the best in the world at what he specifically does, largely because what he does is so bespoke and unique.

Best centre forward in the world though? I've taken that as forward because it's hard to define a lot of players primary position nowadays. Maybe Firmino is the best for our team, but he is not better than Messi or Ronaldo just as a really simple example. Then you have the likes of Aguero, Mbappe, Neymar, Hazard, Cavani, Suarez, Mane, Aubameyang, Kane, Sterling, Salah and Lewandowski who are different kinds of forwards but still phenoms. Or there is a player quite similar to Bobby in Griezmann who scores slightly more goals but is slightly less effective in his all around game. It's not clear cut like you implied even if you take Messi and Ronaldo out the equation. But Bobby is up there with those guys.

I can't allow the best Liverpool number 9 to go unchallenged though. I've obviously (as above) assumed you just mean any forward and not the actual shirt number? Rush, Barnes, Liddell, Torres, Aldridge, Hunt, Keegan, Dalglish, Fowler, Salah, Mane and Suarez are just a few I would say have a fair argument for that accolade. And that is off the top of my very young head.

I do agree that he would get into any team in the world though. He is so good at bringing out the best in others that he elevates them to be even better and I think he would find a way to play with the currently playing strikers I listed above. He's undoubtedly world class but he is not unequivocally the best in the world today or the best in our history. That for me is Messi and Rush respectively.

{Ed025's Note - the nail has certainly been hit on the head there PB...except for the world class bit of course, that is subjective mate..

15 Aug 2019 22:14:01
Yeah world class is just a terminology debate really Ed025. I used to say top 10 in your position but nowadays I think that is too simplistic. Because that means there has to be 110 world class players in the world and that seems excessive. Plus I'd say there are more than 10 world class forwards, but a lot less than 10 world class full backs! So now I just tend to assess it case by case based purely on subjective opinion.

{Ed025's Note - im the same PB mate..

15 Aug 2019 22:19:17
I think that’s it mate, he’s more of a false number 9.But for me, it’s not just his creativity, it’s his work rate too.
He’s one of the most underestimated players imo.

16 Aug 2019 00:06:28
Great player and the best attacker we have at Liverpool imo. I wouldn't go as far to say he's the best in the world or anything like that but he's quality for us, he puts in a top shift every single time and has really adapted to Klopps way, better than I thought he would to be honest.

What many people don't realise is, it's not all about goals, it's about what he can offer on the pitch and he offers more than the rest imo. We have a full squad of talented lads but Firmino is my #1 for sure.

16 Aug 2019 00:57:36
With Ed25 here up there with the best as a false 9 but not as a out n out striker makes you wonder what he would be like behind a world class striker.

16 Aug 2019 01:26:44
Ed025

I knew where you were coming from pal. I appreciate your unbiased opinion on all things liverpool and on football in general.

I just wanted to get an i love bobby post in really!

On a side note ill be watching how kean gets gets on at everton. I think it was a steal money wise in todays transfer market. Kid has crazy potential. Needs time to settle but i think in the long run he could be the signing of the summer.

If tierney can stay fit him and kean and pulisic will be great value for money and rival eachother for signings of the summer in terms of impact on a team imo.

1.Kean
2.Tierney
3.Pulisic (counted as a summer signing surely)
4.Ndombele
5.Wan bissaka.

16 Aug 2019 03:09:26
025 you’re usually spot on mate but Firmino is the first name on the team sheet for me. He is absolute class. I don’t care if he scores that often, what he does for the team is unlike anyone else in world football.

{Ed025's Note - im a big fan of his Tj, not only his workrate and the way he fits into the klopp system...but he plays with a smile on his face and seems to enjoy it which you dont see often enough these days mate..

16 Aug 2019 11:14:26
Origin has the same goal to game ratio as Big Duncan Ferguson Ed025, and you'd class the latter as a Legend. Bobby may not be prolific, but he's key to how that team plays.

{Ed025's Note - i certainly dont class big dunc as a legend john, he was a player with a very average skill set but endeared himself to the fans by giving 100% every time he played, my point about bobby was that he is not a CF mate, he plays in the hole or as a false 9 so is never going to be prolific, but what he does bring to the table is energy and the ability to open teams up..

16 Aug 2019 12:31:18
Firmino is no Calvert Lewin Ed025 haha.

{Ed025's Note - no but they are both as good as each other when it comes to scoring goals lancaster...underwhelming..

16 Aug 2019 12:47:51
Mane is the main man for me. Before he came Firmino was no where near as effective playing up front with Lalana, Courts. Mane made us a far better attacking force. Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 with Mane if Firmino hadplayed instead no chance. Mane turns up in far more big games than Firmino.

I really hope Firmino continues his good form this season as last season there were no threads like this because he had a below par season compared to the previous. If Firmino plays like 2017-18 we win the league.

16 Aug 2019 13:10:17
Mane carried the whole team going forward last year for 3 months and he never got anywhere near this level of praise. Firmino plays well for an hour and people say he if the best in the world. Did people not watch Liverpool last season?

{Ed025's Note - thats a fair point mark..

16 Aug 2019 13:36:34
Always enlightening Ed002. With your response in mind, what is your truthful (within permissible limitations) assessment of Michael Edwards?

{Ed002's Note - I have no desire to discuss individuals.}

17 Aug 2019 01:32:07
Firminos goal record should not be a relevant argument to diminish his quality as a top class forward. Bergkamp, totti, Zola could all play that type of forward role and get rightfully appreciated despite not always getting prolific goal returns. Likes of higuain, icardi, aubameyang, cavani score bags of goals but are not near firmino level of quality in my view.
