ed001 what is going on with Matip's contract. Is there an offer on the table for him or if not has there been any talks. Seems very strange to let him get this low in his contract I would have thought after is form from the start of the year we would have sorted this out in the summer.

{Ed001's Note - it is not as easy as that. He was not keen at the time as he was not sure what would be happening. I expect it to be sorted during the international break as he is now settled in the back line.}

hope so ed001 his turn around has been brilliant what's your thoughts on him over the last 8 months.

{Ed001's Note - he has worked hard on improving his game and taken it to a new level. I have been extremely impressed with him, though he does need to stop giving away possession with his passing. He is an excellent passer but sometimes he tries too hard to thread the needle.}

Same here, Ed01. Matip used to be a DM and honed his passing skills there in his earlier days at Schalke. He is an excellent passer of the ball esp. when no pressure is on him. He just needs have better decision-making as we could get unstuck were he to give the ball away in a dangerous position.

I think he should rewatch the game yesterday because one of our goals came from a slack pass and is proof how easily and quickly that the better teams can exploit simple mistakes!

Johnny I think you’ll find at any point in a game every one of our players will have given the ball away. Hardly a stick to beat Matip with because Burnley conceded from a loose pass. Hardly his fault that.

Ed, do you think gomez should get back in sooner or later? He’s obviously the better talent, but with matip and vvd playing well, you can’t really change it at the moment. I’d like to see matip and Gomez in the cup, see if they can be a paid if needed, but sure Lovren or de berg will play then.

{Ed001's Note - I would only change it if Matip or VVD's form dips. Otherwise keep them together, unless there is an injury.}

Gomez will have to wait his turn. Last season, Gomez and VVD were ripping it and Matip had to wait his turn. Why should Matip be benched when he is at the peak of his powers just so Gomez can get in? If Gomez wants to get back in, he will have to rip that shirt off Matip's back. If he can't then he should enjoy his role on the bench or sub appearances. That's how football works.
