Hellos Ed's, what do you make of Keane and Neville's comments on pints cost leagues? Neville basically names a reel of ex Liverpool players of the 90s spice boy era. Fowler, ruddock, mcateer etc all loved a point but individually were possibly better than united players bar a few. Obviously Fowler was better than any striker united had in the 90s so was this drinking culture a major reason of us falling so short during them times?

{Ed001's Note - yes. It was a huge part of the problem.}

It was a big problem Lerchy, plus the fact that the owners at the time held us back big time, not only in transfers but the drive to succeed commercially off the field.

There’s lots of comments thrown around about Liverpool buying success at the moment, if the club had been more astute back then, our trophy cabinet would be even more envious to likes of Chelsea and Man City.

That group we had arrived at exactly the wrong time. They'd have won the league had they been around in the 80s because everyone was on the piss, and had they arrived in 2000s instead of the 90s, the drinking culture would've been weeded out or managed at an early stage and they'd have been more professional during their peak years.

Still, they got damn close a couple of times and some of the group should've been kept together longer. Rather than ripping the whole lot up just to get further away from the league leaders but call it a success instead of a failure because of the expansion of the Champions League.

I wonder what would've happened had we finished 2nd instead of 4th in 96/ 97 and had those lads in the CL?

Whatever way people try to sugar coat it, Fowler ruined his own career and we as a club suffered in the process . I love Roy Evans, he is a very decent man and a good coach, but he should 've been more assertive or asked for help earlier . probably Robbie would've had a much longer career and united would've had fewer trophies.

{Ed001's Note - you really have no idea. This is tabloid nonsense. You know nothing about the time.}

ED001: I know a lot about that time in particular having had a close relative working in the club on the ground. but more than happy for you to educate me . which bit did I get wrong.

{Ed001's Note - Fowler never ruined his own career, he had injuries which did that.

Evans never asked for help, the only thing he asked for where signings and was usually not given the ones he asked for.

The only thing you got right was Evans should have been more assertive, but he was never allowed to assert himself by Moores, who was the main problem at the club. It was Moores who encouraged the culture at the club, as he thought he was one of the 'lads'.}

I do like Jason Mcateer's response to Roy Keane.

"I'd rather have a couple of mates than a couple of medals. You can't go out for a couple of pints with your medals".
