Morning eds
Is there a priced agreed for Elliot yet. If not could the price rise if he keeps playing well?

{Ed002's Note - Not at this time. Liverpool want to drag it out and hope Fulham reduce their asking price. Worst case is that Liverpool will seek agreement immediately prior to any tribunal. It is a pretty nasty way of trying to bully less well positioned clubs and the club should pay the asking price or at least negotiate sensibly.}

I agree with Ed002, this whole big boy bully tactic against the smaller clubs doesn't sit well with me. We already did enough damage to Fulham with Clint Dempsey and now this? you don't want a position where clubs refuse to deal with one another but if LFC aren;t careful then they'll be struck off everyone's Christmas card list.

I also agree with Ed002, but Dempsey has nothing to with it. In 2012, he was considered a valuable PL player and would have left regardless. I don’t think we damaged Fulham a great deal in that regard, through we may have damaged our relationship with them.
Nonetheless, the line about bullying less well-positioned clubs is spot on. Elliott is a player that has the potential to be worth 10-20 times what we’ll ever have to actually pay to Fulham, and our club officials should take account of that.

My personal view on the signature of an academy player is that the fee should be fixed depending on a simple formula e. g. years at club, division new club is in etc. However, there should also be a fixed sell on percentage based on the a similar formula.

Just an idea. I haven’t copyrighted it but I would i insist on it being called the G1DGO formula.

Not sure that this is related and tend to agree that a fair price should be found for these young players before we have to go to tribunal, but .

It wasn't so many years ago that Liverpool fans felt that the club was always being taken advantage of in transfers both in and out. The club has perhaps gone too far the other way now as a result. We tend to get better prices for our outgoings and don't pay over the odds for incoming players (VVD aside) . Personally I'm happy we are being more savvy in the market although it seems obvious we could temper that in places.

One change. "The G1DGO Kid-go Formula"

{Ed025's Note - i think thats powdered baby milk PB.. :)

27 Sep 2019 13:32:27
Good idea there G1DGO

I also agree clubs shouldn’t be bullied but the problem also arises because there’s no need for a fee to be agreed beforehand and so there’s arguably an incentive for Fulham ask a high number and hope. worst case is a tribunal.

7mln still seems an awful lot for a kid never having played near the top level even if he does seem to be extremely talented. The best way for both sides to get a fair share of actual end value they’ve helped create is the sell on clause or maybe a percentage based on total wages.

Potclay - I agree that it is good we are now being more savvy in the transfer market, but taking a potentially enormously valuable player from the club who developed him for such a comparatively small amount of money is a different situation. Football needs less well-positioned clubs to develop talent, and they should absolutely be rewarded for successfully doing so.

SGRed, 7m might seem like a lot for what you have described, but there is no way Fulham are getting someone as good for similar money.

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about youth transfers but if elliot does well in any appearance he makes for us would that increase his value in a tribunal?

{Ed002's Note - They may or may not be influenced by any appearances - perhaps paying what Fulham want is the answer?}

27 Sep 2019 13:51:56
As with Solanke the fee will be negotiated based on his status at the time of him signing, so that won't change regardless of how many appearances he makes, goals he scores or crossbars he hits.
But yeah, Liverpool should really just agree a reasonable fee and stop haggling over pennies. He really has excellent potential and would be playing for Fulham this season if still there.

27 Sep 2019 15:36:07
Given the ludicrous amounts supposedly paid to agents to secure ludicrous fees paid for some players, surely paying Fulham what they’re asking or somewhere near it - I assume it’s not crazy money - would seem the right thing to do as well as sensible for any future deals rather to developing a reputation that would hinder future deals.

{Ed002's Note - As I understand matters, they were looking for something like £6M.}

27 Sep 2019 17:13:03
Let tribunal decide. Its what it's there for. It worked with Ings and Solanke as selling club want high price and buying club want lower and tribunal usually sets it somewhat in the middle if both parties aren't willing to meet halfway.

27 Sep 2019 20:08:58
If they looking for around £6m (as Ed002 is saying), I cannot understand why we wouldn't just pay it.

Even if his career doesn't go quite as expected, we could still recoup more than that in 2-3 years.

27 Sep 2019 20:38:06
Hardly a fortune £6m.

27 Sep 2019 19:23:36
I'm not disagreeing ed they should just pay them what they ask or the fee should be agreed before the transfer but as I said I don't know anything about youth transfers.

{Ed002's Note - I would agree, but it is not how the club has operated.}

27 Sep 2019 22:02:43
£6mil does seem a lot for a child regardless of what he may become later in his career although I agree we should be fair an honourable when buying academy players from so called lesser clubs. I’m still disgusted over the whole Jay Spearing Bolton fiasco. We’re great on the pitch not so much with our conduct of it though.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have pulled in a lot for the academy players they have let go - sort of the going rate. I would agree it has stated to get out of hand.}

29 Sep 2019 08:07:15
Bad carry on from the club, 6million isn't astronomical to a club like Liverpool and the lad certainly seems to have enough potential to justify such a fee. Can't fathom why we have to be difficult to deal with in everything we do.
