Hi Ed01 (or any other Eds) . Wanted to get your thoughts on the Vardy Adrian exchange. Obviously there is some history between the two, but did you think the foul by Vardy on Adrian warranted a card? Was part of a fairly heated discussion between myself and two others. I felt it was a deliberate foul of the ball and should have been a yellow. My friend thought it was worthy of a red for violent conduct and my other colleague considered it a nothing exchange that Adrian made a meal of. Would love to hear your thoughts

{Ed001's Note - he left his foot in, as he always does, and it was a booking. He knows exactly what he is doing and does it every time in the hope a keeper will bottle it next time. Vardy is a nasty piece of work and does go in with intent every time he makes a challenge. I certainly wouldn't call it a red though and am not surprised the ref didn't card him as they don't understand the game from a playing point of view. They just see that as him being late, rather than a deliberate ploy he has used umpteen games and caused numerous injuries through doing so.}

Thanks Ed. Appreciate your response. This was a discussion between three referees, incidently. We all saw something different. I am always a little biased towards protecting keepers, having been one myself in my playing days, so was interested to hear what others thought.

{Ed001's Note - I can understand the booking and nothing, but I can't see how it could be seen as a red. For me it is the fact that he deliberately goes in to make contact that means it has to be a card. He has plenty of time to avoid Adrian, but Vardy's intent is to make contact. That makes it reckless when running at the pace Vardy is going. He is uncaring of the damage he could possibly do.}

Not a red on any planet, OP. A yellow maybe? Probably but the Ed already addressed that.

I agree with you. As I said inky initial post, I would have given a yellow myself. It is always interesting to hear other opinions and shows, perhaps sadly, how subjective some decisions can be.

{Ed001's Note - I don't mind that, it is part of the game and gives us something to discuss.}

Vardy is just sending a message and trying to get into the goalkeepers head. a bit of gamesmanship, nothing more. Now, if he did it again, then maybe a sending off. I'm not justifying what Vardy did, I agree with Ed, he's a nasty piece of work.
