At the risk of opening a can of worms, I remember some time back that you gave a breakdown of Coutnho's fee eg 120mil spread out over 5 payments plus various hurdle fees (eg 5mill when he reached 25 first class appearances)
I assume the hurdle fees won't be paid out if Coutinho moves on. but does Barcelona still have to pay the 120mill and does LFC still have to pay Vasco De Gama.

{Ed002's Note - The performance based fees are paid if they are met. Barcelona are paying the €120M in accordance with the contract. And Liverpool obviously have to make payments themselves. Someone pointed me at an item produced by the Mirror - it is nonsense.}

As Ed002 said, what is being reported by various newspapers is nonsense.

Someone at the Echo (I think) clarified that LFC had sold the receivable to a bank at the time of the transfer, and therefore received their cash upfront. Barcelona owes the bank, not LFC, the remaining fees.

Ed002, Coutinho's situation raises the interesting question whether clauses contingent to performance, such as the number of appearances or winning of certain trophies, are honoured if the player goes on a loan to another club? For the purposes of performance clauses on player sale, do appearances for the loan club count as an appearance for the parent club?

{Ed002's Note - No, if a player is surplus and wants out, being sold or loaned raises no questions and obviously does not count as credit toward appearances for Barcelona. Everybody understands and nobody has any complaints about it.}

Thanks Ed for clarifying. Seems fair.

Thanks Ed002. I thought that might be the case. If I can clarify a bit more, in the case where a player dies before all the installment fees have been paid out (eg Emiliano Sala) does the club still pay out (ignoring the fact that Cardiff are trying to dog it)?

{Ed002's Note - Obviously the payments which are performance based and have not been met will not be paid.}
