Regardless of how the game against arsenal pans out, if I was Klopp, I would keep fabinho on the bench until the 85th minute, then tell l him to come on and pull a player back to receive a yellow card so he will miss the villa game and be back for the big 1 against city. Thoughts?

Or just rest him against Villa.

I get the thought process mate, shame he didn't do it yesterday mind. I think we need him against villa equally as much as we do against city, the man is phenomenal.

These plans rarely work out. Ramos anyone?

Beckham?

The new rule change means the totting up of yellow cards applies to each domestic competition separately, whereas a red card suspension applies to the next domestic fixture.

E. g. Fernandinho red means his suspension applies to the league cup game, however, if he had received a 5th yellow in that game, his suspension would have applied to the next premier league game.

Fabs is the only holding midfielder in the squad but I would still be tempted to rest him v Villa. But if we drew v Villa everyone would complain, that's why Klopp is paid the big sheets to make these decisions.

Play him from the start against Arsenal. Get a yellow card. Help us get through to quarters of carabao and misses Villa but back rested and thresh for City. All good.

As it stands now, I don't think Fab can be dropped or rested regardless of the booking issue. He is just too important to us. I mean, did anyone watch him vs Spurs? He was bossing the midfield sometimes on his own. He was picking passes short/ long or left/ right with ease that I think Spurs were shell-shocked as to ho w he was opening them up.

Nobody in the PL IMO, plays the DM role the way he plays it. Not even Fernandinho cos he is a diff. type of DM. I think =he should be rested BUT who is going to play that role vs Villa cos we have literally no one who can do that the same way he does? We will see what Klopp decides.

I'd play him vs arsenal but I would rest him against villa as gini or hendo can play that role more easily in a game where we should control midfield.

Fabinho has played nearly every game and is the one player in midfield yet to be rotated and he will need a break at some point. I don't see a better time than villa game simply because he can't afford a booking and there's no point playing him in that role while also telling him to be conservative. He's crucial for city fixture but against villa we have the type of midfielders versatile enough to come in.
