Out of the young guys I'd say only elliot stands out. apart from that ridiculous pass. At least he looks like he could be used in 1st squad. Very disappointed in Brewster to be honest, was hoping for big things from him this season with the hype around him. Maybe a bit harsh. What's your take on the youngsters guys.

{Ed002's Note - It will be tough with them seeing this as a great opportunity to impress. The lack of structure and route to the first team or the out door remains an issue Liverpool need to address - and they know it. Blocking loans for kids does not help.}

Great point Ed002. Plus Brewster has come back from a bad injury and will need time to get up to speed. The Ox still isn’t at the level he was either. Patience is required with both.

Patience is the word Scoot! I was fairly impressed with the youngsters, thought van den berg was quite poor but tough first game for the lad. Disappointed with Gomez and lallana who just don't seem up to scratch but in fairness arsenal had a good team out and everyone should be pleased with themselves after that. That Elliot is a real talent.

it was a great game to give the young lads some game time, yes I would have liked to have been more impressed, but much more important to get that game against a strong side,
well done on winning that hard game, fantastic .

Magico, Brewster is still a kid AND as Scootino said, he is coming back from a more devastating injury than Ox had and Ox's was pretty serious. Give Ox and the kids time, man. If you are running out of patience now then for sure, might as well sell them all and be done with it, IMO.

I also think Curtis Jones has a real future!

Ed002, as for the youngsters, I think Chelsea are just as guilty for not bringing them through to the first team ( until the transfer ban ), this has forced frank’s hand hand to play the likes of Mason Mounts etc. And look how well they are playing!

The reason I single out Chelsea is because for me, they have the best academy with regards to churning out young talent, just look at the players that are coming through now?

But and it’s a big but, Chelsea has continually loaned the young talent out with no real path to the first team. Chelsea, as with all teams since the early 90’s has continually looked to buying success at the detriment of our young English players.

{Ed002's Note - Pleanty of youngsters have been given the opportunity at Chelsea. Chelsea- there are plenty of have a structured approach to dealing with the youngsters giveing them experience and some make it to the first team after loans. Courtois, Loftus-Cheek, Chalobah etc.. It is Liverpool who are still trying to get some structure in place.}

Are you referring to Brewster not being allowed out on loan?

{Ed002's Note - And others.}

31 Oct 2019 09:36:47
We have a great crop of young players but they need to be out on loan.
If Jones, Brewster, Wilson, Elliot, Van Der Bergh, Willians were at the top of the Championship for 2 seasons they would come back better players.

Tbf I thought they all did okay- my disappointment was you expect the more “senior” players to help them out. Lallana and Keita were both poor.

{Ed002's Note - The under 18s cannot be loaned out.}

I can’t fault the players last night. They made mistakes, so what? They’re young they’re allowed to. It’s the only way to learn, thought they showed character and resolve and that is a big plus for me. Thought Curtis Jones turned the match in our favour, really impressed with his passing, reading of the game and positional play. Plus 19 goals and a win. What more can you ask from a cup game?

31 Oct 2019 10:46:42
Catch 22, We need a squad to compete in 5 competitions this year, we don't want to send a player on loan and buy a player to replace them as it would, as you say, block a route to the first team. If we had any injuries etc all players are needed when required.

I think we have been right to keep who we have and correctly loaned out the right players. Grabara, Woodburn, grujic etc need to play regular at senior level. Laroucci, VDB, Hoever, Elliot, Jones, Brewster are all teenagers who are just newly integrated to first team setup under klopp. They will benefit from training in how we play and getting to know what it means to be a player for Liverpool, they will get cup games and want to work hard to show they can make a matchday squad when needed.

They are too young yet to suggest their career will be anywhere near damaged by not playing lower league football at 17 or 18 yrs old. Only herbie Kane I feel was wrongly judged to keep.
