City certainly aren't going away. Destroying villa tonight, they are right back on form.

The could easily go on a 16 game run and achieve 95 points, we certainly can't rest on our laurels!

{Ed047's Note - absolutely but I don’t think for a minute you will

They have a better goal difference than us now.

We'd better not end up on the same points total.

Fully agree with that Drogie, in any other era it would be wrapped up, but city demonstrated last year the sort or run they’re capable of and that’s why Klopp will be so wary of slip ups, like when he went absolutely ballistic on the touch line yesterday day when we were getting sloppy. They always say that the most difficult part is crossing that final line, in a way the pressure hasn’t really started yet, that’ll happen as we get within a couple of wins of the title. The experience that the whole club has got from the last 2 years should stand them in foot stead though, but I am very much one of those not wanting anyone to jinx things.

12 Jan 2020 19:45:56
Upto us to make sure we take points from them.

City went away weeks ago. I reckon they could go undefeated for the rest of the season but it's too late. Only we can chuck it away. If we do I'll be sick but I can't see it.

Watching city/ villa the city fans were saying "Liverpool don't beat teams 5 0 regularly" 30 villa fans (and me) said "they don't lose either"

I watched City and they are so good. But I had to remind myself, villa are a big club but a small team atm. And look what happened the last time we played city. We spanked them.

Side note: grealish seems a nice enough lad and he's a good dribbler but I hope we stay well clear. I don't see where he fits into our squad. His team mates regularly lost the ball not 5/ 6 feet from him and he didn't even cover for them. Danny drinkwater had a debut to forget. He looked so good for Leicester, what has happened to him?

12 Jan 2020 20:38:44
City are a great side this is not news to any of us. They are capable of beating any team by any score when they play well but I’d have to say they were helped by a woeful defensive display from Villa today.
Where we are a class above City is that we are difficult to play against. You can get at City’s back line which has happened on numerous occasions this season so if they’re not playing well going forward they are likely to lose.
We can play badly but have enough defensive stability to get through games and enough quality in attack to still get goals.
They are awesome at times but we are far more efficient.

12 Jan 2020 20:59:14
They beat Villa and now we're afraid, come on, believe.

12 Jan 2020 21:32:28
it's over. the doubt is there because we haven't done it before. last year's disappointment has given us a steely resolve and winning the CL has given us credibility and belief.

Klopp's boys have been on title winning form since last season. They are well on the way.

12 Jan 2020 22:10:15
We shouldn't be worrying about man city they could go and win every game as long as we don't lose to them in really don't see us dropping that many points before the end of the season.

12 Jan 2020 22:47:30
I actually am not concerned with City for one reason - they are inconsistent. One game they can smash the opponents, next they will lose 3-2 after a host of defensive howlers.

I think because of the run they had last season, there’s still that possibility they could do it again this season. But I doubt so. They won many games with a tight margin in the run-in, quite a number of 1-0 I recall. They don’t have a defence that will enable them to do so this season.

And just as winning 18 of 19 matches in the 2nd half of the season was impressive, don’t forget, we just finished the first half of this season at that pace and doesn’t look like stopping.

It’s up to just to cross the finish line.

12 Jan 2020 22:58:56
It was always a 2 horse race and nobody really believed Leicester were our main challengers. Man City, like last year will beat any team they play with the possible exception of us. I think it will help Liverpool focus on the league and not get complacent if City hit the same form as last season. Although Villa were way out of their depth and I can see them being relegated.

12 Jan 2020 23:13:37
I think it'll be more nervy for us than the players. But yeah, been unstoppable for ages.

12 Jan 2020 23:15:22
Robbiesline I couldn’t agree more. I hope we stay well clear of Grealish. I don’t even think he’s good enough to be a squad player. He's a big fish in a small pond, ie. he looks good in a poor team but I think he’d be very very mediocre in a good team. I’m Irish and imo we were good enough for him until he believed in his own hype and jumped ship for England. He’s not near good enough for them but could have been a star man in our much inferior midfield. I’m not bitter about loosing him at all as I’d prefer not to have that sort of jumped up jack (no pun intended) playing for my team so I definitely wouldn’t want him in a Liverpool shirt but if he’s what klopp deemed necessary/ good enough I’d definitely have no problem admitting to being wrong and bowing to his far far far inferior knowledge.

12 Jan 2020 23:16:07
Tbf they beat watford 8-0. Villa were so poor today.

13 Jan 2020 07:25:56
No one is afraid, just realistic - I’ve seen us fall down far too often.

As soon as it’s mathematically possible for us to be caught - then I believe.

13 Jan 2020 07:55:21
We'd have to lose maybe 6 or 7 games out of the next 17 to miss out to either City or Leicester. And they'd have to win every single game. Given our current run I just don't see that happening.

13 Jan 2020 08:26:31
City win one game against a bottom three side and it's back on? We are 14 clear with a game in hand. This Liverpool team do not loose very often, they certainly don't loose 6 out of 17 in one competition. Just relax and enjoy the ride .

13 Jan 2020 08:39:06
While we don't have to have a morbid fear of failure or not getting across the finish line, the one thing worse is being overconfident.
City's form could do for us this season what our form did for them last season. That's what I'd hope for, because that would mean a photo finish for us and everything else won't matter.
Next game for us will be key. Get three point there and win the game in hand later in the month, and we'll be smelling it.
Walk on.

{Ed001's Note - I wish people would stop talking about having to lose X amount of games! We lost what once last season? Still finished second. Draws are just as damaging, as they can affect morale as well as cost points.}

13 Jan 2020 10:51:32
Why do we care about the goal difference. They are better by a couple. If we drop 16 points they are going to end up being 10-20 goals better off. I'm more than confident the way we are playing. City will have 2 tough ties against Real Madrid as well as Carabo cup semi final and more than likely final over the next 6 weeks. We may have rode our luck a couple of times this season to get the win. But I don't think I've watched 1 game yet this season where I've thought we would lose the game.

13 Jan 2020 11:00:51
35 points from 17 games, should be not problem for us.

If we cannot do that then we do not deserve to win the league.

13 Jan 2020 13:43:08
If Aguero hadn't broken records last night, this match wouldn't be getting talked about anymore. That's how far away Man City are from us in the league this season. We've got it sewn up if we continue with the same attitude we approach every game with.

13 Jan 2020 13:48:49
Did anyone actually watch the game and see how appallingly bad Villa were? I'm not being funny but the difference between them last night, compared to when they played us, wasn't just City. The gruelling festive period has hit them hard with injuries and they were very leggy and unfocused - City didn't need to be brilliant to steam roll them. It is hardly a cause for worry.

13 Jan 2020 15:03:21
Doo hamlet, I didn't know that about grealish, jumping ship. I think young maddison has to be in front of grealish in any chances England.

There's a player in there. A really good one. But he is at his boyhood club. I respect him for that and am well jealous but he needs to work with as one of the elite managers and coaches. I like their man. Deans a proper old fashioned manager but not perfect for grealish's development. He's told yo just roam. Great coaching.

13 Jan 2020 17:16:12
Ed001, this is exactly the point, too many draws can be more damaging than loses.

The time we lost out to United under Rafa, we lost less games than United but drew too many, the same last season, we only lost once where as City lost 3 or 4.

{Ed001's Note - exactly. We just need to keep winning.}

13 Jan 2020 20:52:34
City actually won a game, scoring 6 goals and I did'nt care. Long may that continue.
