I really hope we trust curtis Jones and start giving him the experience he needs an craves, the reason the likes of grealish, maddison, foden, mount, are shining is exposure too 1st team football and curtis Jones is ready and he could be a serious player for us .

Agree10 Disagree0

I agree but play instead of who?

14 Jan 2020 17:01:25
Curtis Jones does look good but many posters are going overboard about the youngsters in general. I have heard all this before Wilson, Woodburn, Partridge, Kent etc. It hardly ever works out the way we or the club hoped. Look at Hoover he doesn't get a look in atm, there were many threads this time last year saying he should be given more game time and how great he looked.

Curtis is only 18 and looks a terrific prospect but he has to break into the best team in the world, he has to be TAA level. Shaq, Lalana, Minamino, Ox they will all play before Curtis. Next season he should have more chance.

I think the maturity in his play is improving he is captain of the u23s and phsically is getting stronger, I jus feel the more exposure too 1st team football he will fit in nice, I don't mean starting games but getting minutes off the bench an obviously fa cup games it's hard cos of who is in front of him, but a lot of young British attacking mids seem too b adapting well this season an I am excited too see wat he can do .

U23 standard is league 1 at best. He needs to wait till Lalana and Shaq leaves and perform great in training. Foden hardly plays, Mount's form has dipped massively and the teams they are playing for are a few levels down from ours. Am sure Curtis would play most weeks for Villa. Nice idea but FA cup is his limit this season.

He will play next round of fa cup and give him another chance to shine and make it more difficult for Klopp to leave him out.

14 Jan 2020 21:51:33
Mark how does hoever not get a look in?

14 Jan 2020 22:41:39
hoever is only 17 so how much football do you expect him to get cb normally break in to teams later than a say strikers. as for Curtis Jones having 1 good game and wanting him in the team is a bit silly Klopp see him train and if he thinks his ready he will play more. I would love to see him get a loan move and see how he does over a full season. As we start to get a full squad back to fitness I would like to see a stronger side in the next round of the fa cup with Shaq and minamino and Origi lead the line with Lovren and matip at the back. We need to start winning trophy's all the time I would love the fa cup this season as well.

Im going to get slated for this but I don't think he's at the maddison/ mount level yet. He could easily end up the best player of the three and maybe the difference IS first team minutes.

Honestly Jones was good against Everton, and scored a phenomenal goal, but his game has some pretty glaring flaws and ones which will not serve him well in the first team:

- he was very slow on the ball and took too long to release it
- he was quite lax on and off the ball and didn't show enough urgency

These issues can be fixed, but the point is they do need to be fixed before he starts games on a regular basis. Those defects, whilst not huge, are in complete opposition to how our first team plays - Jones needs to be patient and work on his game, if he does the chances he gets will become more frequent.

This thought needs a bit of context as you're examples prove nothing. Grealish is 24 and has only lately been performing well, maddison is 23 and had been playing championship level before stepping up PL 18 months ago. Foden hasn't really played much more football than Curtis this season while mason mount was used by Chelsea who had a serious lack of other midfield options start of season and he's probably now in need of a break from first team as he's struggling. My point is grealish has been breaking through a villa side playing in championship, maddison was able to break through at championship level and mount was able to play at championship level while foden is not getting any extra time than Curtis.

He's in a team probably the best in the world with a midfield of experienced internationals who have no reason to be dropped. He's only 18, where was grealish maddison mount at 18? They certainly weren't ready to be breaking into our current team while we search for this all important league title. He's getting his games in cup and has made the bench couple of times. What more do you expect? He's 18 why the risk of weakening our team for crucial games just to try to develop 1 player who's got loads of time.

15 Jan 2020 07:36:21
We seriously expecting an 18/ 19 year with close to no experience to play during this crucial time that will probably test some of our seasoned players mentality to the limit? Come on! The boy will get his chance.

I haven’t seen much of Curtis to judge but didn’t I read that he scored a blinder the other day with his 10th shot on goal? What about the other 9 goal scoring opportunities? Sounds like Coutinho! Scores a blinder which made us forget about the shots into row Z.

For the record I’m not suggesting Jones doesn’t put a shift in (unlike Couts)

Relax lads, Curtis will start against Shrewsbury and then help us to the FA Cup Final when he'll score the winner against City. That's just how flippin perfect this season is destined to be.

Very good reply har red.

As always, and especially after a match, opinions on here are just like a pendulum; either slate the player viciously or praise him as the next messiah. The fact is that it is simply too soon for Jones to be taking anybody's place in the starting XI. Leaving aside skill, he still has no idea on the tactical side of the game that we employ, despite training with the seniors. And the tactical side is a vital part of our strength, and why we have gotten where we are. I can already imagine it. If Elliott had scored once or twice from the many chances he has had, he would have been elevated to Messi level, despite being only 16.

My take is that Minamino can play any position that Jones plays, far far better. There is no comparison. And Minamino is ahead in the queue, so Jones will have to wait patiently and make do in building up his locker of experience in the U23's, the Cup games and sitting on the bench in case of injury to the seniors.

I'm not skeptical about Jones. Just learnt the hard way to be more realistic and wait and see what happens with the player, after watching Woodburn, Ojo, Kent and Wilson scale the heights (once or twice) and then crash in our system.
