So I have just been having a convo with a couple of friends about the situation at United, how it compared to Liverpools own situation through the 90s and how it can be resolved. The one friend of mine is a Untied fan, from Manchester now living in the same city as me, I am Liverpool and my other friend is a fan of the local championship team here. So the United fan said.

"Firstly for me it's not just about recruitment. As Liverpool lost a great manager and great players together in the early 90s we lost Neville, Giggs, Scholesy, Vidic, Ferdinand and Van Persie all within a short period of time . And of course the greatest manager in history retired around the same period. Now if we loose all those players and still have a fit and firing Fergie it may have been easier or if we had lost Fergie and had those players at the top for a few more years then that would have been easier. So they all leave together and we end up with a string of managers struggling to live up to what went before them. And we have players recruited by a team that hasn't got a clue, and that's the issue there, top to bottom we are still struggling to get over loosing all that greatness".

Then the friend who supports the home town championship club looked at the united fan and said " and Howard Webb, don't forget he went too, that didn't help you lot". Well I spat my coffee out and laughed till I snorted.
