Yes . we are on for something special . my concern (as a Liverpool supporter I will always have concerns) if we happen to be champions in April, Klopp may start playing youths and reserves and start dropping points . Call me greedy but I would like us to go for a record points tally . it gives this team a sort of mortality that it deserves . You know in 10 years time I would like to hear the commentators talking about teams chasing Liverpool points record .

{Ed002's Note - I think there is little doubt about a record points total being achieved.}

Do you really think so Ed002? What makes you do sure mate?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, I think so. No other club has excelled at all this year.}

If we go for it, I believe we will, depends on if and when we wrap it up, that we keep playing, or are still fighting in the CL and maybe look to rest players.

We need 10 wins and 1 draw from our remaining 14 to set a points record. Not guaranteed by any means, but at our current win rate in the Premier League of 95.8%, I think it's reasonable for Ed002 to think we'll achieve that.

I see only 2 ways we don't:

1) We get knocked out of the CL by Athletico and as a result the players mentally go on holiday in April. I doubt Klopp will let that happen though.

2) We rotate heavily in April / May to ensure freshness in the latter stages of the CL and to give game time to kids like Jones, Elliot and Williams. This is more likely than 1, but Klopp's actually not a heavy rotator. For the important games (CL and PL), he's always gone with his best available.

Even with the title effectively wrapped up, I can only see small number of changes in the PL games immediately prior to a CL game.

I’d rather win a league and champions league double than set a points record. Records can be taken away, trophies can’t.

It's an absolute joy to be a Liverpool fan right now. What a team. Every one of them. The ox was great. I love the way he bursts forward and when he's in the team, he creates space for the forwards just by being the ox. He can score from 20 yards as easily as most can from 10. This means defenders have to rush out to him. Thus creating space.

I don't think we'll drop that many points. Klopp may play the odd youngster but he will let the boys go on tour as champs. It'll be good to see which fans act with class and applaud this amazing team. Be cool if Everton did. Do you think it's likely ed025? Seriously.

{Ed025's Note - i think every supporter is in awe robbie mate..

Good point thunderbird.

30 Jan 2020 01:10:36
I agree with you thunderbird id take european success and 99 points in the league over beating records but I can't see klopp rotating largely regardless, . Momentum is key and winning is a habit so I'm sure all our players will be hungry to set records if they're obtainable in the latter stage of the season regardless of how we're faring in europe.

we are the creme of this year's crop. Almost exclusively over the last 2 decades there has been 2 and most times 1 team that is by far and away the best. I do submit that the challenge from those teams in 3-6th is well under the average of the last 10 years. But then again we are so far and away above the average for the 1st placed team. Anyways, we're not dropping it from here. Got to recognize elite when you see it and we are elite. Happy to have this post thrown back at me if we turn into our 2015 version and drop points left right and centre hahahahahahaha

But seriously, I hope we go undefeated and smash the points tally to rubber stamp our dominance and legacy as having the greatest PL season ever.

30 Jan 2020 05:11:48
p. s. we've secretly been performing at an elite level for just about 2 seasons now.

Klopp is the ultimate pragmatist in my view.
If we’re still in the CL come late March, he will definitely rest players if the PL is all but tied up.
I think most Liverpool fans don’t give a damn about the invincible thing (it would be nice, don’t get me wrong) but that title is what we want. And if we can double it up with a seventh European Cup, that would be far more preferable than the invincible tag.

30 Jan 2020 07:06:51
Juicer - I think Klopp will demand his team go for it. Imo itd be amateur hour, like the stuff one season wonders to get to the point of winning the title then relaxing. Didn't know that's what champions clubs do.

30 Jan 2020 09:18:42
Sometimes resting players can have the opposite effect.

Barca didn't bring any of there first team to the game before the semi final last year and we had that tough game at newcastle and look how that turned out

sometimes its better to keep the rhythm and momentum going so some rotation will be expected but nothing too major!

30 Jan 2020 09:04:28
Thunderbird if we keep up current form and end up with 112 points there is no way anyone is ever taking that record away.
I’d love to do that and win the treble but for me doing things that have never been done before in 150 years of people playing football is astonishing and much more difficult that winning a trophy. You get chances to win trophies every season and every season someone does.
To win 37 out of 38 league games and draw the other is the stuff of fairytales and we will be immortalised for ever.
I get the sentiment but trust me if we get to 112 points (which is still a massive ask) it will mean more to everyone around the world than us winning a CL.

In his post-match interview after the West Ham game, Klopp was asked about setting a PL points record. He replied “At Dortmund, we set a record but the very next season Bayern Munich beat that record. ” I think that suggests that titles and trophies are more important to Klopp (and therefore to his players) than records. I have no idea how he will go about securing those titles and trophies but I don’t think he will jeopardise, for example, winning the Champions League in order to set a Premier League points record.
