Now I know it's quite hard to compare players even in the premiership era as the game changes and I also believe that being in a certain team helps. But out of our current players how many of them are the best there's been in position or potential to get there. Allison for me it's only Schmeichel that's been a better keeper in the prem. Yes De Gea Cech Van der Sar all great but Allison already taken over.
VVD. You have for me Terry Ferdinand Vidic Carvalho Adams. The likes of Walker McGrath abit too early to compare for me.
Give Robertson a few more seasons the way he is and then surely he could be compared to Cole and Evra.
Trent has all the time to become the best, who is the best right back the prem has ever seen anyway?
Think there's a lot more competition in the midfield and attackers and also think they are harder to choose because of the different formations teams play and how they play.

I was enjoying that post too until I read "evra and Cole" Andrew Robertson is already better than they ever were and he is still young. I think he'll be a captain or vice captain one day. He stay at Liverpool for the rest of his career I would think. Actually think robbo could play on that left side of the midfield three. But really good next to Ali van djike, mane and fabhino. He's one I see staying.

{Ed001's Note - not so sure he is better than Cole yet, Cole was incredible for many years. Robertson has to perform at this level for much longer yet.}

A fair comment ed01. Cole was fantastic. But I see Robertson actually getting better and I think while Liverpool are the dominating team, he is a massive part of it and I think he'll be part of this squad for many years and overtake Cole as the best. And trent will do the same in the right. I know you don't change what ain't broke but I'd like to see Williams at rwb and see trent in the midfield, Am. Maybe wait until we have actually won it. But I'd love to see he further up. But at the same time I'd be just as happy if he played rb forever.

ed001 I always get annoyed at utd fans who think evra has been our best left back, Irwin p****s all over him.

Great shout Wiggy. Was just going to post Irwin. Also think our very own, and Villa’s, Steve Staunton deserves a mention in any left back conversation. But Cole and Irwin are the stand-out LBs of the Premiership era for me.

Fair enough on evra I guess playing in a dominant team helped him. But as much as i love Robertson he's going to have to do it for many years to come. For me Ashley Cole was brilliant at Arsenal and Chelsea. Any thoughts on Allison could he ever be compared to Schmeichel. VVD when or is he already the best centre back to play in the prem. And who is the best right back to play in the prem. Irwin? Played many games at right back. Rob Jones had the attributes unfortunately injuries stopped that.

cole was best left back I have seen in my time watching prem
and im sorry but for me best right back was rob jones as long as he played (not long I know) but in giggs prime he made giggs look like downing when ever they played
I would have to say peter cech before injury was only second to schmeical with allison third but only due to the time he has been with us.

Trent at 21 is already the best right back in Prem history for me.

Can anybody name any other right back in the Premier League era who hit double figure assists 2 years running? Or who was worth 120% more than the next best right back on earth according to Forbes?

Would anybody here genuinely swap him for Gary Neville, Lauren, Ivanovic, Ferreira, Irwin etc. I wouldn't even consider it.

Steve finnan was very underrated at right back. Not saying he was the best ever but he was certainly on of our best.

I loved Markus Babbel. Another great RB of ours who had a career cut short by injury. But Rob Jones. What a player he was!

I didn’t rate David Seaman at all. I think he was the weak link in that great Arsenal defence. And it was great.

Although I kind of agree with Jim based on what Seaman achieved I do think Alisson is a better keeper and could be remembered as Neuer and Schmiechel are. They set a new benchmark for keepers and Alisson is on that track at the moment.
Seaman was part of a very good Arsenal back 5 but was nowhere near the level of Schmiechel. Nowhere near.

Allison could end up being the best of his era and going down as one of the greats. Do I think he's as good as the likes of Buffon or Schmeichel? Not yet, he needs to do it for a few years before we can say that.

Anyone else feel Seamus Coleman played many years at a high standard to be in contention for best RB. He's gone back since his awful injury but I thought he was a consistent performer for multiple seasons in a team which lacked consistency and stability around him.

I feel if he had moved to a bigger side he would have got the credit and praise that I think his quality and mentality deserved. Very underrated I feel.
