Could Liverpool be in to re-sign Coutinho in the summer, with reports Barcelona reducing his asking price?

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Feb 2020 14:46:15
OP, Barcelona and his agents did the exact same ting last summer, putting feelers in the media and Klopp killed it dead at the time. IMO, it's a slow news week so got to fill the papers with stuff to get people clicking. IMO, Nothing to see here.

08 Feb 2020 14:46:31
Some people have short memories, doubt Klopp has though.

08 Feb 2020 14:51:29
History of serious back injuries. I’d stay well away.

08 Feb 2020 15:06:57
It's clear to see coutinho is at the point where his game isn't going to change and it's likely he will stay in decline. he's hitting his 30s shortly and will likely seek a big money contract. His energy levels and stamina won't be sustainable to operate in our midfield and his style of play woukdnt benefit our quick aggressive attackers for him to slot into our current front 3. It would be a brainless transfer and I'm sure not even crossing the mind of klopp or others to look at bringing him back.

08 Feb 2020 15:29:49
I'd take him back. I know it's going to be unpopular and I know he was pretty out of order when he left. But the fact remains, he is a great little player. He's paid the price when we knocked Barcelona out of the cl. And missing out on a medal like that must be horrible.

I thought he'd kick on in bayern and I can see him in Italy next but if we announced him, I'd be pleased. That said, I don't think he's a starter and that's why it's not going to happen. Who does he replace? Mane? No, hendo, no. Gini, no. I could see it happening if we lost salah or mane, but I don't see klopp going back.

08 Feb 2020 16:19:45
I don't see where he would fit in the squad really. For the amount of money we would have to pay, just not worth it right now. More than happy to give lads like Curtis Jones a chance.

08 Feb 2020 17:05:13
Nothing to see here, move along.

08 Feb 2020 18:09:22
Klopp was totally right when he tried to talk coutinio into staying for a couple more years. He would have continued to improve and could've made his big move a bit later. His career has gone downhill since leaving. But I still think he has something and I reckon he still has some big seasons in him.

08 Feb 2020 18:11:09
Let's be honest he can't get into a declining Barcelona squad what chance has he got getting into European, world and (potentially) domestic champions team. as a team we have massively improved since pipco left he was average but was given the space by others to shine and with that looked good but now we have genuinely great players on the field and warming the bench in each position pipco could play.

08 Feb 2020 18:39:29
If can’t hold down a play at Munich or Barca, why would he be worth buying?

08 Feb 2020 18:52:20
Purely on a footballing point of view (forget the financial part which make NO business sense, whatsoever), should anyone even consider such a move? I mean, the LFC team Cou played on simply no longer exists, period.

That team (the one he "flourished" in) is easily 3 times inferior to this current one which is a well-oiled machine, a Swiss-Army knife that can play any system on the planet and play against any system known to football. The facts bear these out very clearly with the way we have performed since he bolted to Barca.

So If Klopp was willing to let him have his wish and a) Not sign a replacement and b) off of that, create arguably the best team English football has ever seen, what in blazes would he be here for esp. since his game offers us absolutely NOTHING based on the multiple ways we play football now? That's the question I would like those who want him back to answer and pls, not the tired and tedious the "we lack creativity" or "We need a plan b" nonsense cos clearly, those are not our problems currently.

08 Feb 2020 19:12:41
Don’t want or need him he got his dream Barcelona move good ridden to him.

08 Feb 2020 19:28:49
I really really don't want him back. Hogs the ball too much. Takes too many shots from outside the box, hoping for the odd screamer. We're better with what we have now.

Don't get me wrong. He's been the best bit of transfer business that Liverpool have done in a long time. Was it 7.5mill that we signed him for? and sold him for 142mill? He's part of the reason that we are so damn good today, but I wouldn't want him back.

08 Feb 2020 19:54:30
Because he's a good player.

08 Feb 2020 21:35:41
Robbie, that is not the argument nor is it the debate we are having here, respectfully so let us focus on the topic at hand, please. No one is saying Cou is a poor player. There are a lot of good if not great players out there who LFC can sign BUT if they are not effective in the multi-faceted way we play football then yes, they are too poor to play for LFC.

My opinion is that his talents are no longer of use to us cos we have moved on massively from the team he flourished in. We no longer play the same way hence, don't need his talents anymore, IMO. Now, you may like Cou and all that but that is not the point I am making.

09 Feb 2020 07:02:15
If we can get him for what we paid inter, I'd take him. Any more and he's not worth it.

09 Feb 2020 09:22:45
Cracking player for us but would h suit us now? He seemed to produce a moment of magic in our time of need but we're a different team now. Would he fit in that midfield 3?

09 Feb 2020 10:26:06
Jurgen doesn't tend to buy players he has worked with before and particularly ones with long term back injuries.

09 Feb 2020 10:55:06
Even at a reduced price of £80m I can think of so many better ways to spend that money that follows our transfer strategy.

If we spend that kind of money it has to be for someone 5 years younger who fits into our style of play

Coutinho is a fantastic player but not for Klopp’s formation.

09 Feb 2020 10:55:28
Bledd85, We are now a well-oiled machine now where virtually nobody has been able to figure us out for the most part and where "moments of magic" in games, are no longer required hence, Cou is no longer required here. It's that simple, really.

09 Feb 2020 11:08:59
RM, I was asked why I wouldn't be upset if we signed him. And the reason is because he is a good little player. Yes our team has massively improved part due to the money we made from the couts deal. But you have to admit, he was head and shoulders our best player before he left.

10 Feb 2020 04:25:55
We wouldn't be where we are if coutinho didn't go.

First
I don't think we could have afforded vvd and allison without the money we got for him.

Second
We passed way too much to him and he hogged the ball

Third
He would have never scored 15-20 goals a season.

10 Feb 2020 09:38:06
Nope. No way. He's hit a brick wall, football and career-wise, and I see nothing but further decline given his age. I'd rather spend the same money on a 22-23 year old who can give us 5-8 years

Everybody is saying the same thing. He was a good player for us. He was a match winner for us. He was a team leader for us. Nobody is saying he is anything now (for either Barcelona or Bayern Munich) . So are we so bothered and even considering him.

Plus I think FSG is too much of a nicely oiled business machine now. I don't see them touching anybody without a good sell-on value. Coutinho's value will only decline from here onwards.
