I've been wondering whether Klopp would be audacious and make enquiries on Martinelli of Arsenal. I know it's left field and that we have Origi, but I'd love Martinelli at Anfield as our fourth choice striker.

He can play anywhere up front has years and years on his side and potentially an excellent striker for many years to come. I think at his age he's a perfect fourth choice for us. Not in a bad way but I don't see Origi as a player who will be first choice week in and out, if/ when one of Firmino, Salah or Mane leave.

But in Martinelli I do see a player who could progress and naturally replace on of them over next few years, in the nicest way I don't see Origi being able to do that.

Over the years we've seen the club on the up, signing players from the other top six rivals, so why shouldn't we try? His wages wouldn't be a threat to our structure either as he's on relatively low wages and still not yet a regular for his club who are in a transitional period.

In my opinion I think he'd be interested if we moved for him, admittedly Arsenal wouldn't be. I remember Klopp labelled him the best striker of his generation when we played them in cup, so I think Klopp would take him. Also we have three Brazilians already in squad who would help him settle.

An ideal summer's business for me would be both Martinelli and Havertz that would be more than In my opinion. We have quality youngsters to cover the full back positions and I could see a few players leave this summer also.

Plus we have Jones and Grujic still to break through, so we don't need a lot of players just a couple each year.

I can honestly see all of Lallana, Origi, Lovren, Clyne, Chirvella and maybe Matip if Klopp remains interested in the centre half whose name I forget. Was it Rodriguez or something?

Anyway just an opinion but would be interested in hearing views of others.

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath about Martinelli and Havertz. The centre half is Garcia.}

I have watched Havertz a few times these season and for £100m there are much better options. Would rather give Curtis Jones a try. Martinelli looks good but no chance of that happening.

Ed002 I thought the defender we was looking at was Diego Carlos?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, oops.}

Lol not that I was correcting you at all 😂.

He does look decent but I’m not sure what it would mean fir Gomez future.

{Ed002's Note - It will put Gomez in the position of covering the defensive positions but not being a starter. Don't lose sight of the Home Grown quota is potentially going to be an issue next season with two players no longer under 21 and three HG players possibly departing which means the club will only be able to add one non-HG player without others leaving from the first team squad. If ICD were to be sold the club may not start the season with a full over 21 squad.}

10 Feb 2020 15:59:46
Right ok Ed, could be a few HG players in and out then in the close season. Which 3 HG players are possibly leaving please, and who is ICD?

{Ed002's Note - Lallana, Clyne, possibly James Milner, Isaac Christie-Davies .}

Ok mate fair enough. Could he an interesting summer ahead then, and signing foreign players might not be straight forward if we are restricted.

I find it interesting the OP suggested Martinelii might leave first team football at arsenal to be our 4th choice striker I will guess I'm being pedantic and he actually meant first choice back up to the front 3 as that's the only logic I could see the player being even remotely interested in us.

10 Feb 2020 20:17:39
Does the HG quota make it more likely that Jones will remain in the first team squad?

{Ed002's Note - No, it is unrelated to Jones and others under 21.}

I think martinelli will have his eyes on replacing aubameyang who will surely be moving on within next year or so and arsenal will be hoping and wanting him to step up and not need to splash out on a striker. If we went for him arsenal would want big money and martinelli himself might not want to swap the chance of being probable main forward at arsebal to being a back up for us.

We haven't really signed from our top rivals either as poster suggested we have lately. Only oxlade Chamberlain that I can think since klopp arrived. Solanke from Chelsea doesn't really count.

I think Lovren will look to leave which will free up one non-HG spot.

Although he’s had a few more games this season I wouldn’t say he’s first choice at Arsenal yet. There’s still Aubamayang and Lacazette ahead of him when both fit, and they have the other youngster Saka is it?

Not sure how long he has on contract either, but I’d say he would play more than Origi does for us. He’d be potentially leaving a club in transition with no guarantee of CL football to join the current World, European, Super Cup champions and potentially title holders at end of season and also playing for one of the top managers in world football. Personally I think he’d be interested, so an enquiry would be worth the effort.

Gomez out? For cover? Wtf? The lad is absolutely class. That would be ruthless but I guess you have to be to remain imperious. This is something I both hate and love. Weird.

Jonesred, Martinelli is a very promising young player who is showing his quality but he still has a lot to prove before a) Dislodging Laca and Auba and b) Get anywhere near being the first option off the bench at LFC esp. since Minamino and Origi are already here,

I also disagree that Martinelli would play more than Origi cos simply put, Martinelli is yet to prove himself at the highest level (PL and CL) the same way Origi has. Also, Origi plays where he is told to play. He can play wide (IMO, not his best position) or CF and scores goals playing either position regardless of the opposition. Au contraire, Martinelli is yet to show he can play either role and score goals from either role. Also, Klopp rates Origi very highly cos if he did not, Origi would have been long gone. So for me, we have enuff cover with Origi and Minamino so Martinelli is not needed.

Origi is a confidence player. The more he plays the more he scores, unfortunately he isn't getting the game time. I feel for him. What more can he do? Wins us the champions league and still plays behind Bobby. Martinelli looks great but I wouldn't swap him for origi. Not in a million years. Origi is a power house. Who would walk into most teams in our league. Probably 18 of them.

I quite like origi out wide. He can cut in and I think he's probably the gest finisher of the four/ five forwards in the squad. Mane's pretty good but I'd have div just in front. Good in the middle too. Just a great player to have. Defenders must weep inside when they're tired and see big origi stretching on the sideline.
