Not a Liverpool related subject per se but i'd like your thoughts on this guys.

I recently listened to a radio call in whilst sat at work and a suggestion was put forward by a caller which i thought was excellent.

The Community Shield (previously known as The Charity Shield) has been regarded as a pre-season trophy, the idea was to turn the Shield into a competition which would include The Champions of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

My format would be the Norther Irish would play one of the English or Scottish champions in the first game then the winners would play a final whilst the other teams play a third/ fourth place game.

Whilst being a pre-season mini tournement it would give the likes of the Welsh and Northern Irish teams coverage and much needed revenue. It would also give the Community Shield a bit more prestige.

Whats the Ed's and my fellow posters thoughts on this?

I think it's a great idea but it would be dominated by the English Teams.

You might as well give the trophy to the English team, and no point of the first game either, Celtic against the english champion and that's it and the English champion winning it.

Keep it as it is but proceeding the game could be a charity game i. e. war vets or a homeless supported team. Give something back to those less fortunate and actually support local communities, hence its name. Although I appreciate the charity name had to be dropped as there wasn't sufficient funds donated!

And where would the time for all this come from? Expanding the duration of the Charity Shield? Unless you'd like all the kids to play in it during the summer when the seniors are away in other competitions or their holidays? Keep it as it is. Simple and clean. And it's for a worthy cause. If something is not broken, why fix it?

I think it's a good idea. And I wouldn't be writing celtic off. Yes their league isn't as competitive as ours. But if Rochdale can beat utd, or give them a decent game, if shrewsbury can give the pool a good game then celtic certainly can. Of course the English team would be favourite, but celtic are a decent side and rangers and the dons can play too.

I think itd be cool if it was 5-aside and all be fine in half a day.

I know there's no time and it would never work, but I'd love to see a rep team from each of the big leagues. So, a summer where there's no footy we see a team made up of the best player in each position from that league, regardless of nationality.

So that'd be Liverpool with Kevin de bryne.
