Ed2 a question if I may: A lawyer I spoke with said If ManCitys appeal fails then due to breach of contract (or something similar) any players who wanted to leave could legally join other clubs as long as the club received a reasonable fee (which would be decided by an independent panel) . Would love your insight on this? Thanks in advance!

{Ed002's Note - No, he is misleading to you. There is no provision to do that. However, if any player were able to prove breach of contract by the club, they can request to have their contracts cancelled. That is extremely unlikely and may not even be possible to prove.}

Ed,

Piggybacking on this question but not specifically with the city situation in mind, are there provisions within a players contract discussions to demand that the team play European competition. I appreciate that this is impossible to guarantee and at best would only offer maybe a financial increase for failing to honour this but I wondered if you knew of any examples of similar past or present?

{Ed002's Note - No, not at all. There might be provisions the other way where a bonus can be paid.}

The Mail are reporting today that City may be forced to pay out millions in compensation to players as there are CL bonuses as part of their contract that would now potentially unattainable.

That sounds one hell of a stretch legally and if there was to be any payments I’d assume that they would be good will only?

I guess it would be a paper thin excuse for a wantaway to play on but surely they will be more professional that that, it’s not Pogba we are talking about.

{Ed002's Note - It is pointless speculation.}

Thanks ED, I appreciate the replies.

It’s a really interesting situation (to me at least), it’s one that is open to abuse from papers (they still need feeding regardless of the truth) and rogue players but hopefully all involved will be more professional.

{Ed002's Note - They will word whatever they have written to be speculative.}
