It's laughable to me that people are suggesting replacing Bobby or even that he can be replaced.

Because he makes that role look pedestrian doesn't mean it is.

Anyone claiming he doesn't do enough because he doesn't score as much as salah and mane clearly miss the fact that it's Bobby's off the ball work which usually enables them to score.

I'll go as far as to say that I don't think there is a replacement currently in football for Bobby.

Those talking about werner need to watch him more, they don't play alike. Werner would need a lot of time to adapt to Bobby's role and perform it at Bobby's level. Instead of watching the end of a move watch Bobby during the move. There's a reason other teams want a Bobby style player (bayern actually just want him) there's not many of them around.

I think Werner would more likely be cover for Mane/ Salah with his pace and finishing, Minamino looks like he will be Firmino’s cover once he settles.

I don't think we would be signing Werner to play in Bobbys role, he would play in his own way. The point is, to have multiple ways of playing so we can adapt.

Bobby is a good player but he hasn't done well in the last few games including today . every player is allowed to have a bad spell and every fan is allowed to point it out . most likely Bobby won't be a first teamer next season, but will have to wait and see.

It's not about replacing Bobby more about having different options when things are not working out and rotation. Our current 1st eleven have played almost 85% of games and i have to admit look a little leggy in the past few games. We also need something different from midfield to take the pressure of scoring off our front 3. Werner and auoar would be ideal.

It’s more about continual improvement really. Firmino is a great player but his goal scoring contribution could be better. If a player becomes available who can improve that goal contribution then we must consider it as it will help to keep the team ahead of the others. Man United did it for years once they became successful under Fergie - adding one or two new players each season to keep existing players on their toes, it’s a model we should try to emulate.

{Ed001's Note - why would we emulate them when Paisley did it years before? Why not emulate him? Which is what we are doing. Bringing them in, giving them time to assimilate and then introducing them into the team.

As for improvement, it is not that simple and this kind of comment shows a lack of understanding of how one player's role impacts on others. You replace Firmino with a goalscorer and that goalscorer will play higher up the pitch, which is why he will score more goals. Then he will block the spaces that Mane and Salah run into as defenders are not being drawn by Firmino. So the new goalscorer will add more goals but at the expense of Mane and Salah's goals. You will struggle to find anyone who can play Firmino's role better than he does or as well but scoring more. However so many of you seem to think that better players just grow on trees.}

Ed001 I’m all for keeping Bobby in there. Just a question though. Has anything changed with Bobby’s role or him as a player compared to 17/ 18 season when he played with Mane and Mo. That season he managed to bag 26 league and CL goals. Has he or his role changed or is it a case of we were more gun ho then?

{Ed001's Note - we were more gung ho and other teams were not defending so much against us. Teams fancied their chances then and came out and had a go, leaving gaps for us to attack. That rarely happens now.}

The space Firmino has to operate in is getting smaller and smaller. We used to play on break and then teams kept a more defensive shape. Now there are two rows of back fours. Not easy for any player. I’m with Ed on this one. For what Liverpool need Bobby is the best player. I did like the way Minamino player in the centre last week. I’m guessing he is being shaped to be a plan B for Firmino?

I wouldn’t swap Firmino for any player on the planet, there is nobody that comes close to playing as good as him in his position, infact you would struggle to find many players in the world that do play in this position.

I love Bobby, absolute legend of a player, im sure most Lfc fans would agree. i think the thing that can get 2 fans rarely is that with a player of such quality playing through the middle for such a good team (even allowing for the great work he does which creates chances for others) he really shouldn't be in a position where its March and he hasn't scored at Anfield. Chances like the one missed yesterday really should be buried more often by such a good player.

There were three players around Bobby as soon as he received the ball in and around the box yesterday.

Wasn’t it great when nobody outside of Liverpool realized just how good he was.

I'm not that old Ed001 so the Paisley way of doing things is alien to me, Fergie - like it or not - is the manager that most folk of my generation would probably look at as an example of how to manage a football team in terms of keeping them fresh and successful year after year. And I understand perfectly well what Firmino brings to the team - I commented on what a great player I think he is - but who on our bench is good enough to come on in his position and do the same job if he's having a bad game or if he gets injured. I don't see Origi as the answer nor do I see it being Minamino at this stage as I don't think he looks strong enough (although I appreciate he's new to the league) .

It does feel churlish to complain as we're just 3 wins away from the holy grail, I just want us to stay competitive going forwards as no doubt the other teams will be spending big this summer to close the gap. It could be easy for us to just drop off if we don't keep the squad fresh with top quality players.

{Ed001's Note - it is not about age, you should know the club's history. You should know about Paisley and Shankly and how they built the dynasty.}
