The Bobby debate. My view is that we should see him as a No 10. A creator for others rather than the goal scorer. Let's just all be honest, he's not a natural goal scorer but he is a natural creator of goals.

If we get someone like Werner I don't believe we will score less - the goals will simply be shared around more evenly.

I know if it isn't broke don't fix it however Klopp (a very clever football man) is always looking ahead (see how he changed the way we played successfully this season) so I believe he will sign Werner to give us a new way of playing that other teams will take time to work us out like they have done more recently.

OP, Werner is not a prolific goalscorer either and in fact, he plays more out wide for RBL now under Naggelsmann than he used to under Hassenhutel cos Werner misses quite a few as well. Werner is a good player and can score goals and he can play out wide on either side so he will be an option there. That's it, IMO.

On another note, people keep saying Bobbie is not a natural goalscorer or that he is a no. 10. Do people think Klopp (a very cleaver football man) didn't know that before hand before converting him into a CF? Klopp knew Bobbie from his days at Hoff where he was a no. 10 yet he converted him into a CF (the false 9 is not a thing, IMO) who yeah can score goals but that is simply not the most important part of his job.

Klopp demands things from Bobbie that NO striker is asked to do, IMO. Tracking back, man-marking the oppo. DM, facilitate transition, start the press, the whole lot. Not sure Kane, Aguero, Jesus, Giroud and all want to do any of that.
Klopp has created a CF in Bobbie that is actually the glue to a whole system. Everything is built around him so comparing him to a natural CF on whom a whole system is NOT built around, is a false comparison, IMO.

Timo Werner isn’t prolific? He’s scored as many goals in the past 18 months as Salah and I’d call Salah prolific. What high standards you have.

Red I think you miss my point. I’m not knocking Bobby - what I’m saying is Klopp has seen some teams work out systems against us Recently so next season he will look to adapt again to make it more difficult for opponents. Werner (or someone similar) will give us more options of play therefore making it more difficult to play against us.

Ps Werner is prolific to date.

I think salah goes and werner in.

We play enough games to give all 4 plenty of game time. Origi would need to be sold and Minamino needs games. Werner in the begining will probably have to start on the bench, then when he is up to speed I can see all 4 playing in some games together. At the moment none of the front 3 fear for their place so proper competion can only be a good thing.

This all depends on both Mane and Salh staying of course.

That glue thing is a load of bollocks. Did you watch last years knock out games in the champions league? Don't remember Firmino contributing much in any. Our best performance (maybe ever) v Barcelona he didn't play. Do you think we would have won number 6 if Mane was injured instead of Firmino? Very very unlikely IMO.

This season we have won the league and Firmino has been a long way from his best. Its because of the team but some players are more important than others, I don't put Firmino in our top 6 most important players this season or last.

Werner in 25 bundesliga games has 21 goals and 7 assists. Not the standard of the PL but how can you say not prolific?

10 Mar 2020 08:42:09
I posted something similar recently about next year's possible formation and the consensus was Werner would be brought in more as a rotation for the existing front three, alongside Ox and Minimino.

Contrary to how many goals Salah has scored, bringing in competition could be huge. The lads only wee big and balls always seem to fly to the back stick, where he's never going to beat a 6,2" CB.

A bit of height and enthusiasm might be a great shout as a rotation option. Also with AFCON, we might need someone in with a similar scoring standard.

I am pretty sure most of Europe would want Lewandowski as prolific as he has been in germany, debrunye came from Germany look how prolific he is, the standard in germany is only slightly lower lots of quality there for us too keep tabs on .

Play bobby upfront and wide, ask him not to drop deep and defend from front, rather be always be in the box and he will score 25 per season.

Bobby will score 2 on Wednesday night and shut everyone up.

Mark, your disdain for Bobbie is clear for all to see as you clearly don't understand his clearly defined functions cos all you seem to respond with are your emotions, which are not facts.

Now here's a fact. Regarding the fact that Bobbie is the glue that holds our system together. That is what Klopp himself has repeatedly said. You may think it's bollocks (cos yeah, anyone will take your biased and slanted opinion over that of the guy who created the system we currently use) BUT that does not make it any less a fact.

First of all Werner can definately be regarded as prolific as his career records clearly show, also wrong to label him as a wasteful poor finisher despite this season hitting 21 goals from 47 shots on target basically beating the keeper with every other shot he has between the posts.

Also bobby can of course be described as a "false 9" in the context of what that role suggests, he's rarely on the shoulder of defence in a central striker role and more often drops deep and attacks in final 3rd see our 2 wide players in areas ahead of him which is how you would compare the difference between a CF in regard to that of one operating in a false 9 role.

Werner is a different option who can add that direct and higher threat in behind while his pace gives an alternative to firmino if needing a change of approach in attack.

I love bobby and certainly don't want or see the need to change our attack style without him but I view Werner as only an alternative option as opposed to the view that we need him to switch to a new different first choice system to an attacking line that has been regarded as the most feared over the last 2 or 3 years worldwide. No need for change, simply the ability to mix it up with genuine quality without seeing the drop that origi, solanke, shaqiri, sturridge have given in that time.
