Breaking.

The Fa and Premier League have agreed to extend the 19/ 20 season indefinitely, so long as circumstances allow to do so.

Agree9 Disagree0

Extended indefinitely? What’s that mean then.

19 Mar 2020 13:51:29
I've just read it on the FA website,

"The FA’s Rules and Regulations state that "the season shall terminate not later than the 1 June" and "each competition shall, within the limit laid down by The FA, determine the length of its own playing season".

However, The FA’s Board has agreed for this limit to be extended indefinitely for the 2019/ 20 season in relation to Professional Football.

Additionally, we have collectively agreed that the professional game in England will be further postponed until no earlier than 30 April. "

In the main news, all I have seen is that the current suspension is extended to 30th April at the earliest.

So I think basically it means they haven't decided on a cut off point rather then deciding this season will definitely be completed.

{Ed002's Note - They will go to June 30 and that will be it.}

Next season will have to wait according to sky for this season to be completed. if this goes on and on they hope all Europe leagues will follow suit and play out this season before thinking about the following season.

{Ed002's Note - That is not the intention.}

Excuse my stupid question: what happens if things don't go back to normal until this time next year? Would the 2020/ 21 football season start in March, or would they have an extended break until August 2021?

I know this is all hypothesis. I'm just curious because in that circumstance it would make more sense to me if they continue where they left off. Obviously though that isn't going to happen.

{Ed002's Note - Nobody has discussed that.}

19 Mar 2020 14:54:19
With all the potential implications of not completing the season, I’m not sure why the couldn’t consider extending it past end June? They can also potentially even rejig the next season a bit to shorten it up a bit (shorten the cups, no replays, no two leg semis, no international friendlies etc. ) and play on until August.

{Ed002's Note - That is not the plan at this time.}

Wish everybody would calm down a bit, going to be a difficult few months but I think by the end of June we will be in a different position.

No more cases in wuhan suggests it will pass and the end of the world doom managers can relax.

Football or any other sports can be sorted when we are in a position to make a proper decision.

19 Mar 2020 18:17:06
Wayne Rooney made a good point, with a winter world Cup coming this would be a good time to alter the seasons start and end dates to line up with that, we can worry about putting it back to normal after Qatar.

Cheers Ed002.
I didn't know if they would have already set a cut off, and didn't want to hazard a guess at a date, but at the same time attempt to reiterate the point they won't let it go to cause much if any disruption to the following season

Can I ask, do you think it possible/ feasible if circumstances allowed for example that they could decide finish league but cancel the domestic cups?

And, do you think that UEFA would consider saying to national FA's to finish domestic seasons if its possible, but then void the UCL and Europa competitions.?

{Ed002's Note - UEFA have already re-iterated thay wish to see everything done by June 30. Cancelling domestic cups might be a possibility but right now everyone wants everything completed by June 30.}

19 Mar 2020 16:06:26
So looks like we're going to miss out ed02? Not going to be sorted by june 30th. That'll be a travesty. We are on 80 odd, the next team is on 50 odd. How can they Rob us?

{Ed002's Note - I never said that.}

19 Mar 2020 17:03:26
Despite what Ed2 says, circumstances and the unprecedented times we are in, will lead to next season starting late. What does it matter if it does?! For the integrity of football, all fixtures must be completed, across all leagues, no matter what. End of, as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure sense will prevail.

{Ed002's Note - It is not about fucking Liverpool.}

19 Mar 2020 17:08:54
Do you think there is enough tint to complete the season then Ed if we start playing again behind closed doors say mid May?

{Ed002's Note - As long as it starts by the beginning of June it will be completed if there are no issues.}

19 Mar 2020 20:13:29
Still waiting for my reply to be posted, Ed02. I'm entitled to have my right to reply shown, surely?
Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - You account is being removed for a break.}

20 Mar 2020 16:02:15
I think in the end they’ll be forced to play out the rest behind closed doors.

Yes no more new cases in Wuhan but they took strict measures a lot quicker than most European countries.

It’s not great watching football behind closed doors, but it would work for tv companies and the clubs as long as players are tested before hand and remain in isolation it’ll be safe enough for them to play it out.

21 Mar 2020 21:11:10
No they didn't, they his it and even arrested the journalist who first reported it. But it does seem the UK are so late in getting off their arses and implementing measures but it's not surprising with that bafoon Boris in charge.
