What would happen if Liverpool 80's team played against our current side?

Bruce Grobbelaar; Steve Nicol, Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson, Alan Kennedy; John Barnes, Graeme Souness, Jan Molby, Ronnie Whelan; Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush playing 4-4-2.

vs

Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum; Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino playing 4-3-3.

Impossible comparison unless the 80s team have had the same advantages the modern players have. Diet, training, etc.

Assuming the 80s team has this and are at the same fitness levels, it would be a tough call for me having witnessed both.

I think the current team edges it though.

80s team pips it for me.

On ability alone 80s team would play them off the park.

IMO, these are impossible comparisons as eras are different and we have much better athletes now than we did then. I will say that if you put a lot of those 80's legends like say a John Barnes (a monster of a player) in this team with all the great pitches, infrastructure, dieting and sports science advantages we have now, they would be unfathomable cos their ability was tremendous. Hard to say who would win, IMO.

On paper and without getting my head into complications, I would say it's a draw. 5 World class players in the 80's team, and 5 World class players in the team now, too.

No contest, 2020 team, they have about 40 years on them!

Its got to be the 80's team. They swept everything before them, year after year in europe ad well as england.

Our current team is awesome, but would have to be doing this for a while for me to think they are as good.
