So mayor Joe Anderson gives an interview calling for the season to be ended because fans will gather in breach of social distancing and Liverpool have now released a statement in response.

I don't particularly think it needed a public response from the club but there you go. Always at the forefront of ballsing up.

The thing with Anderson's statement, whether it's an inconvenient truth or not, but he's dead right.

From a selfish perspective I hope it can resume. I think it would be good for moral for people to have something to look forward to. That being said I also know he's right and that thousands of muppets would gather. Either at a venue If the match being played or gathering to celebrate the eventual title win.

I think even if Liverpool where just awarded the title you would see a gathering at Anfield.

I've seen too many idiots at games to know that's exactly what would happen.

{Ed002's Note - I would agree the club should have said nothing.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Muppets will gather whether it’s football related or not when lockdown relaxes. Anderson forced the club into responding given he was making a view on the rest of the season.

Mysterious timing on eve of clubs meeting tomorrow? Posturing, nothing more.

I don’t think thousands would but some will, if not at the stadium then somewhere else. But that is going on now, there’s been pubs still serving basically having lock ins, last week we saw large crowds in some parts of American protesting about there lockdown.

Reality of this situation is that it’s starting to effect everyone, we are best just leaving the decisions to those more informed.

Sad that really if it wasn’t for money most countries prob wouldn’t even be considering leaving a lockdown at the moment.

With you, Ed01 and the OP. LFC should have just let this one ride but it seems they can't seem to get out of their own way. I also believe that no matter how much the Mayor and the club scream at fans to stay home and not show up anywhere near Anfield were the season to restart, some people still would and that is dangerous.

There was absolutely no reason for Anderson to make these comments

As things stand, we haven’t and there’s no talk of us being handed the title. I’d get it maybe if we were due to be awarded the title in the next week or so, a sensible comment urging fans to be mindful of the situation but to come out and say this right now

He’s a bluenose so it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

The Spirit of Shankley have commented with a perfect response and have backed the club.

30 Apr 2020 21:37:01
Drogie you are of course right. Anderson should not have made those comments. Liverpool are a business and as such are protecting their asset which is so much decided by social media these days.

was it the right thing to do? I can guarantee you not one person on here knows that for sure as only time tells with these things so anyone bad mouthing this action by Liverpool is placing their own bias opinions before the facts have played out.

We both know who they are and they are as predictable as birth and death with their digs. But it’s their little power play so if it makes them feel good about their insecurities so be it.

1jj mate, my gripe is the fact that he’s banging on about crowds, social distancing etc but had no qualms in letting the half marathon take place in the City, the weekend after Madrid game and Cheltenham!

Complete double standards.

30 Apr 2020 21:56:52
I think there is a hidden agenda behind a lot of people's comments regarding our fans.

We are not the only club who could have something to celebrate. Yet there is a focus on 'Liverpool fans breaking social distancing' and it is being linked to ending the season and/ or not awarding a title.

30 Apr 2020 22:24:19
Agreed Drogie, SoS response is bang on.

30 Apr 2020 22:42:36
Drogie, are you surprised about the Mayor's antics here? Hypocrisy is to politicians, as fish is to water.

01 May 2020 07:54:27
Given his previous comments Meister, I’m not surprised to be fair mate.

01 May 2020 09:03:04
The so called ‘Mayor’ of Everton made unnecessary comments to antagonise whilst trying to persuade all that he purely had the concerns of the entire city at heart. His mate Mr Ball in the Echo did something similar earlier this week.
The clubs response was bang on for me, as was the response from the ‘SOS’
Let’s see what today’s meeting brings, but the truth is, what will be will be, and nobody can question that Liverpool FC spanked all and sundry this season in the premier and absolutely deserve to be champions.

Spot on, shughes55. The rival trolls can run their mouths till the cows come home BUT they will never be able to openly deny the fact that in season 19/ 20, LFC schooled them and battered near ALL that came their way, breaking all types of records and were going to break even more and win the title by 3 country miles, had COVID19 not hit. Now THAT, can and will NEVER be taken away from this team and this club. YNWA!
