I have heard we won't be spending much due too lost revenue is this accurate? . Also if we want too stay at the top we simply need too spend, the likes of man united look like they gearing up too spend an other rivals, I hope we are not slack of the mark in the transfer window.

{Ed002's Note - As I have explained, the immediate focus will be to find a way to pay the debts that will be falling due in June. Liverpool are not a cash rich club so, with the uncertainty, they will need to be careful.}

That just goes too show why we will never dominate, as other teams can spend an get stronger . It's crazy too think how well we have been doing 2 successive champ league finals winning one, practically winning league this season yet we have too tread carefully, are other teams in same boat? E. g man city, man united, chelsea, Leicester, etc.

{Ed002's Note - Plenty of teams are in the same position as Liverpool.}

ffs, even a global pandemic that will critically damage some club's finances doesn't put off the critics telling the clubs to spend spend spend.

02 May 2020 13:48:08
It's not a critique and I ain't saying spend spend spend, we never signed anyone but kids last summer then got minamino in winter window, it wouldn't be unfair too say as good as the squad is we can get stronger and if we want too stay there intelligent money should be spent not ludicrous amounts .

I don’t understand this post, first you say we have to spend because other clubs will be spending big, then you say we have to spend intelligently, that has always been the case. Do you think that other clubs will be spending huge amounts when the transfer window opens? This pandemic will affect every single club, very few clubs will be able to spend lots of money. We are lucky we have such a good team already.

We can’t spend what we don’t have ffp keeps it all on a level field nealry every club is the same! It is what it is!

Think we need to be sensible here lads
For me to spend money when we don’t need to is silly
Also the fact we spent nothing last season really in terms of major transfers comes into play, also we have players to sell in shaq and lovren and out of contract players like clyne and Adam Lallana so we have room to move wages wise as well
I think we won’t spend a lot unless we move players on first but the club know you stand still you go backwards but also you spend too freely you end up in danger
Sponsorship wise we do ok also so we will be fine lads don’t worry.

02 May 2020 18:31:38
OP, are you just looking for a way to bash the club for being prudent? As Ed02 said, many other clubs are in the same boat as we are so how are the going to be able to spend more and get stronger if they are all in the same boat, exactly? Ridiculous.

Clubs are staring down the barrel of cutting spending due to a lack of matchday income, advertising and so on. Also as Ed02 has said, the bills and payment commitments will come due very soon and those guys (banks, payments for transfer fees for players already signed) are not going to care about all this Pandemic stuff cos they need their money too. This is why the PL cannot be voided nor just postponed indefinitely.

I just want too know if financially what type of situation we are in compared too our rivals after this unprecedented situation, as FFP wise we were flying, deals getting made, winning champs league, not spending last summer, we seemed to really be getting it together on an off, it seems man united, Chelsea, man city gearing up too spend too get better.

02 May 2020 22:48:57
No change there then, we haven’t spent big since Ali.

@hailstones

I'm not sure how much Man City are going to be able to spend due to FFP. They have the highest net spend in Europe and have are appealing against a potential Champions League ban.

I wouldn't be worrying too much about our financial situation compared to others. We've been getting good fees for our outgoing players and have been doing well in Europe, along with spending very little last season. The current financial situation will certainly be eating into whatever transfer budget we had though.

I'd be more worried if I was an Arsenal fan. They're spending money (which Ed002 says that they don't have) and letting everyone leave on free transfers when they can't sort their contracts out. Their most valuable asset is a 30 year old with a year left on his contract and they have a now fringe player on £350,000 a week. I'd be worried if that was us.
