While all is quiet.

Do the Ed's know and would be willing to share any of the craziest clauses in transfers they know off or in players contracts at clubs?

{Ed002's Note - I can't think of anything at the moment but I could tell you a lot of footballer/agent stories. However, two quickies you might enjoy. (a) a Premier League player who couldn't drive had his agent organise the purchase of an expensive car that was rolled out of the garage when he was visited by the press etc. for interviews, demanded the car was replaced a year later with the latest model in a different colour. He still couldn't drive - but it was image. It had a couple of hundred miles on the clock. (b) a northern-based Premier League player who had put clothes in a washing machine but had no idea how to turn it on repeatedly rang his agent in the South East for instructions on how to use it. This was eventually solved by the agent persuading someone at the Worsley Park Marriott to send a housekeeper (or similar member of staff) around to his house to do his washing and instruct him and his girlfriend in the use of the machine. I will say that both players involved are English.}

Shocking them but funny.

haha that is a brilliant story, Ed002. Thanks for sharing.

I would love to hear a new podcast of yours where you tell us some other little stories that you from heard from over the years. Perhaps you could call it Ed002's bedtime stories?

Red Sandman.

{Ed002's Note - I will try and do a Sharkopod when the situation becomes clearer. Monday will be the next point where we will see a little more clearly what will happen.}

What's a washing machine?

Is it true ed, that former Sunderland Midfielder Stefan Schwarz had a clause in his contract that meant if he travelled to space then the contract would be cancelled?

{Ed002's Note - It was when he was at Arsenal, but broadly correct.}

Brilliant Ed. Great work.
Thank you

The old one that I was told was that Tony cascarino was sold for a set of squad tracksuits. Maybe when he left Gillingham?

I’ve been trying to turn my washing machine on since I married her.

Ed, didn't you mention previously that in the 'old' days, players were given items instead of signing on fees, such as cars, paintings etc. If this was common, it would be great to hear some of the more odd items given if possible.

{Ed002's Note - It was one club that paid a couple of players in tax free items such as oil paintings and classic cars. I also know of players who lived in registered as living in Monaco to avoid tax.}

There was a player in Germany who had a clause in his contract that demanded his club build him a new house every year. However, he had made no specifications on the house (i. e. size, location etc), so the club built him tiny houses made of Lego every year.

I can add one here. Roberto Baggio had a clause which said that at the end of every season his shirt must be auctioned at and the proceeds given to charity.

A clause which Gabriel Batistuta agreed with so much that he did the same while at Fiorentina.

It's quite tough to buy significant game worn shirts for these players as a result.
