Rumours of coutinho available for loan at 9 mil, anyone else think that sounds like good business? Could play wide left while sadio is away at AFCON, or at least allow for more formation options, he's a talented player for me and i know we've moved on to become a better side but he has a lot to offer, I'm sure klopp would prefer permanent additions but it will likely be a difficult window to get players of that calibre.

Eds and Reds, does anyone know why has Coutinho flopped at Barcelona and Bayern? Was he overhyped in the Premier League and simply never was world class or is there something more sinister to it?

{Ed001's Note - because he wasn't as good as people thought. Simple. He looked great in highlight reels because they only showed the good bits and not the 50 other shots he fluffed and turned over needless possession. They didn't show how he lacked the acceleration and pace to make anything of beating a man nine times out of ten just putting himself into a blind alley rather than creating space. I said we would be better when he left because he wasn't as good as people thought and I stand by that.}

Fully agree overated player and now teams are finally wising up to it which is why no one wants to sign him For the crazy fee being mentioned.

I’ve never agreed with Ed001 on this one. For me, Coutinho was our top man when he left and that was reflected in the fee at the time.
He barely played with Salah, and not at all with VVD, Alisson and Keita. So the side is stronger than when he left and a like-for-like comparison is not true.
Going to Barca, under the shadow of Messi, was never going to be an easy task.
And Bayern have played a more compact 4-2-3-1 with, often, a less-mobile Lewandowski as the player ahead of Coutinho.
His confidence has taken a hit and that can stall the very best of players.
IA Spring 2017 version of Coutinho implanted into our current squad would improve it, no doubt at all.
But it’s Summer of 2019 and things have moved on. He should never have left, that’s quite apparent to all, even himself I’m sure.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but we are defo going to disagree. He needed to go as he was holding us back and that was clear on the pitch. I don't care who he played with, his selfish play was not helpful.}

No he’s a sore back!

Barca have badly wasted money these last few years. Coutinho, Dembele and Griezmann is money badly spent.

31 May 2020 14:44:46
Agree to a degree 6Times but Dembele is class and I would love him to play for us. Not saying he is worth 100m but he is a top player, we did have interest recently as well and asked Barcelona if he was available. Not sure if that ship has sailed but a quality player.

I think Coutinho would be a good signing for us now. I think he will have learnt a lot from his experiences abroad and kick on working under Klopp, learning to track back, not be so wasteful and accept he's not the main man like he was when he was still with us.

31 May 2020 17:19:36
No idea why anyone wants him back.
We have been much better Without him, he doesn’t suit our play and he acted like a bit of an idiot to get out.
No thanks.

Daretodream, you’re having a laugh mate, Dembele spends too much time playing xbox, eating McDonald’s and messing around. Notoriously poor attitude and Barcelona are trying to get shot of him. Not to mention the fact he’s made out of crisps and gets injured just getting out of bed. Balotelli mk2 that lad. Best avoided.

Great replies, great website. Thanks all. One thing for certain, Becker and Virgil are more valuable to us than Coutinho, actually more valuable than two Coutinhos!

I'm not totally decided one way or the other. Coutinio at his best was pretty good. But he left us dry and we have done well since he left. I think that's more due to klopp system and progression than simply coutinio leaving.

But as klopp boom says, Virgil and becker are way more effective than coutinio. And we have other great players now. Would he kick mane out of the team? No, not for me. 9mil sounds cheap but it's a loan we're talking about. That's not that cheap, and is that including his crazy wages?

01 Jun 2020 00:47:15
Another thing I'll say. When neville came out and said he wasn't sure coutinio was 140milliom pound player. He said he thought about 90 would be more accurate. Every Liverpool fan laughed at him and said "double that Gary"
He was our top boy. Players like milner and Henderson regurly fed him the ball. He and Firmino had a great partnership and played some lush football. I think his confidence was shaken at barca.

I also think we've moved on. If klopp went in for him I'd support him, but I won't be calling for his signature.

01 Jun 2020 06:53:52
We got rid of him at the perfect time. There's no place for him at Liverpool, his attitude before he left did it for me.

01 Jun 2020 15:54:31
Do we need him back I think the answer is no. But if Klopp brought him back in any kind of deal then I wouldn’t be too upset. I’m not one to hold a grudge and him leaving allowed us the money to bring in some fantastic players that have been great for us. In Klopp I trust.
