ed001 what do you think about the 5 subs. I don't like the idea of it for me will just be a time wasting thing after a couple of games most players who are playing will be back to full speed.

{Ed001's Note - it is coming in eventually anyway. It will make games more tactical and probably less exciting but it is the way it is going.}

The game is constantly shrinking. I wonder how much of the 90 minutes is actually played? With throwings, injuries, corners, freekicks, penos, VAR and now 5 Subs. And only 3 minutes added on religiously.

If it means we can get to see a few young players then. I’m all for it
Also it stops games hopefully going down to ten men because some one gets injured near to the end of a game.

They usually add 30 seconds per substition at the end of the games anyway. So not much time can be wasted. I see it more of continuing to coddle players; those with slight knocks will have the option to go off.

I thought that the 5 subs could only be played in three windows? So if you did three individual subs you couldn't make another as you've used your three opportunities. Plus if they go off at the nearest side f the pitch I think there will be very little time difference.

ed001 growing up in the 80s international friendly's was still good games a lot of the time. But as soon as all the extra subs where brought in and England game in the first half could have been a really good game then came all the subs and it would just die. I for one really hope that it never goes to 5 subs it might make it more tactical but just get your tactics right from the start is the managers job.

{Ed001's Note - yeah I don't want 5 subs either.}

I thought for a while clubs should be allowed to have the usual 3 subs (possibly 4) BUT be allowed to have say 2-3 under 19s English players on the bench. There will be times when your 3 up with 10mins to go or games that suits a particular young player that the manager couldn’t foresee.

To be clear the 3 young academy players will be extra to the 5 players available but can still only use the 3? Subs but there will be option to use them without taking up first teamers.

For me it might not be the most sporting thing to do but I believe would be the sensible thing would be get the league won ASAP and then rest the first team players as much as we can and blood the youngsters. Even if we don’t win another game it doesn’t matter as the title is wrapped up. Next season is then a quick turnover and of our players have had an extra 2-4 weeks more rest when the other teams might have been playing twice a week then surely that is an advantage. Clubs who have won leagues early have done that for years so it’s not like we would be destroying the integrity of the rest of this season either.

{Ed002's Note - THat would add Match Fixing to the list. Great idea.}

Ed002 thanks for the reply and I’m a big fan of yours. Not really sure how it would go down as match fixing if we are going out to actually try and win the games but giving our key players a rest. Utd did it for years under Fergie.

{Ed002's Note - There is an obligation to play the best available team. Certainly youngsters can and will be blooded but replacing the first team would not be allowed.}
