Could understand why Liverpool didn't immediately go for Werner, it's a big price for a good player, but it was going to drop rapidly next summer when his new release clause activates, it wouldn't be a great financial deal.

I reckon that the plan was/ potentially still is to use the time between his release clause ending and the new one beginning to negotiate and more importantly structure a fair deal. If Chelsea have paid the release clause and the deal gets done then they don't have any real say in how Leipzig get their money. The year between clauses allowed us to negotiate for a better price and a better structure for payments.

Another issue for any Chelsea fan has to be what Werner has apparently already said about Klopp and Liverpool, it'll appear that any other club coming in to sign him will be his second choice and that he's basically moved for the money etc etc. If that's the case then is he a player that was ever really right for Liverpool?

Obviously I'm disappointed that it looks like a deal with Liverpool isn't going to come, as he's a good player, but ultimately the most important thing to me is that the player want's to come and that the deal is good for Liverpool.

{Ed002's Note - You might want to try and understand about release clauses.}

Release clauses have no relevance to English clubs, so you’re entire post is bs.

I think players are way less emotional about these things than fans are. They are professional after all. Did it matter to Dalah that he wasnt Klopp's choice?

Literally clutching at straws here. If he starts banging them in left right and centre the only ones with egg in their faces is us.

Liverpool’s transfer committee didn’t see value at price wanted due to crisis and also how that has impacted Liverpool’s spending this summer.

We are 25 points clear so squad is not exactly a disaster and I’m very sure with us having won the CL and shortly PL that Klopp knows what he’s doing.

Long time before next season starts so take a deep breath, enjoy the virtual celebrations when they come soon (and they are) and wait and see what we do as may be even better.

U can understand that 50m for one of the worlds top talents is high? We sold Ings for 21m he's one leg we sold solanke and Ibe 20m each both wouldn't lace werners boots but ok 👍🏼.

Didn’t we buy Ox for 40 mill and he had 12 months to go on his contract. That’s a big payout when he would be available for no transfer fee a year later. Or am I talking out of my a#se.

{Ed001's Note - the world is in a different place right now.}

He is trying to cheer up fans Ed 😂😂😂. He is crying inside after missing out on Werner 😁😁.

Ed001 totally agree mate. Surely someone must have discussed with Ox though about the possibility of waiting another 12 months to come to us on a free. 40 mill is a lot for someone in the last year of their contract. Just out of interest mate has a higher fee been paid than that for someone with a year to go in world football.

{Ed001's Note - there is no wait for a chance like this. There is a wait for another chance, but you can't wait and expect a team intending to compete for trophies to wait for you too. If they need a player in your position, then they are going to buy one and your chance will not be there unless they flop.

I have no idea about fees for players with a year to go.}

Very true Ed very true. Have a good day mate.

This is all pretty hard to establish given we don't really have a handle for Werner's personality. Maybe he doesn't want to wait? maybe he wants to leave Bundesliga after this season and that is it? Who knows. It seems pretty clear what we'd need to do. From memory Chelsea were one of the cash-rich clubs ed2 mentioned who would do alright through the virus, so if it came down to money we would probably lose out. But unfortuntaely it seems we have also shot ourselves in the foot again too.
