So £54m price for Wernwr plus £9m wages per season over 5 years, total £100m package for him, no wonder Liverpool wasn't prepared to pay it for let's face it, a sub.

Smart business in my eyes.

He's a very good player and would get his fair share of game time. Also in todays market his transfer fee and wages are far from the worst. No point in rubbishing the player because he is going elsewhere! I dare say if he signed for Lfc he would be the best thing since sliced bread.

IR, I fully agree with you that rubbishing Werner (who is a stud footballer who I would have welcomed at Anfield) is pretty week, not sure he would be the best thing since sliced bread had he signed cos well, we already have the best "things" since sliced bread as in, our front 3 who are top 5 in the world in their positions. Just saying.

He's a fantastic player and would have been a great addition. But total trust in Klopp/ Edwards to get the right player in the end.

Champions of Europe, Super Cup, World Club Cub and 27 wins of 29 in the Prem thus far . Hardly a team who is in dire need of a marque signing.

Short sighted not to go for him given that either or Salah or Mané are likely to leave at some point and both of them will not be here between 6/ 1/ 21 and 9/ 2/ 21 for the AFCON. Shot ourselves in the foot. Now we’re scrabbling around for loans and free transfers.

I don’t think he would of been a sub. I think he’s got the right attitude to want to dislodge one of the front three. I love our front three as much as anyone but if a player comes in and proves more effective then I’m happy with that. The least Werner would of done is provide real competition Which in turn would force the boys to play out their skin every week. Right now the front three are basically undroppable. Someone of real quality like Werner could force them to play even better. Just my opinion.

German papers are reporting the Werner fee as being £45 million. Just gets better and better all the time!

Why would we spend that amount of money to stand in while the African cup is on?

06 Jun 2020 06:53:18
Thing is Mikey, Salah and Mané both are getting towards 28 and both want that final big move, be it to Madrid or Barca. So it would have been a very short term investment for the AFCON and an even better long term investment for when they both move on. Also, given the amount of games that will be affected by the AFCON, that’s a very long time to be without our main goal threat and enough to lose ground in a title race. Can you honestly say that we even look like good a side stripped of two world class attackers got they length off time? Because I certainly can’t? Lose one we can cope, lose two and we are very likely to strugggle as we don’t have many goals in the side beyond them.

The one positive for me is the fact we didn’t go all out for Werner shows that Salah and Mane aren’t going anywhere next season. The longer we can keep hold of the front 3 the better.
