Interesting one but I think I know the outcome but ill ask anyway.

Ive personally not seen Carlos play at all firstly can anyone comment is he good? What type of defender is he, who is he best compared with?

The main Q keep Joe G or bring in the shiny new CB?

For me id keep Joe I think he's arguably the best English CB in the league and gets better the more he plays.

Anyway thoughts?

Not seen him play that much either, OP but I did watch him play yesterday vs Levante and all I can say is that he is no skinny CB, lol.

Gomez is not being sold anytime soon so not sure what you mean about "keeping" Joe tho. Gomez is here for the long haul so he definitely will be "kept".

He's regarded as one of the best in La Liga with clubs like RM and Barcelona chasing him. Overall from what I've seen of him he's very much a ball playing CB, plays more on the left side (like VVD) . He has a very strong sliding tackle which he commits to a lot, often successful, however he also commits many needless fouls; his biggest weakness I'd say. As for physicality the guy is very strong, but perhaps lacking somewhat in the height department. He isn't say as fast as Gomez or VVD but he is a relatively fast centre half and recovery pace wouldn't be an issue (like it is for players such as Maguire) . It's difficult to predict how he'd get on in the Prem however.

Sorry Red Meister i meant keeping Gomez as the first choice starting CB.

In terms of cbs I always like the old adage that the best defenders are the ones with clean shorts. I mean when does Van Dijk ever commit to a slide challenge.

Klopp is a great judge of player so ill support it but if we are to sell Lovern or Matip id rather give Hoover or Van Der Berg the 4th spot and keep Gomez.

We are 25 points clear so we don't need to spend unless something unusual where to happen.

Accidentally clicked the send button! It's difficult to say how he'd get on in the prem although as he has an eye for a pass and defensively is seen as solid (very impressive clearance, interceptions and a good tackling rate) paired with relatively good pace it would be difficult to see him struggling. Perhaps what could be improved is discipline and his set-piece offence and defense but this is covered well with VVD. Would he be an upgrade on Gomez? Perhaps, but they have different styles. If Klopp decides he's the player to buy then I stick with him for the decision as Carlos looks like a very good CB. As for player comparisons you're best asking Ed001, I'm sure he'd have a few comparisons to give you with his keen eye. ;)

Liking all the love for Gomez and deservedly so but for me Matip was our best center half most of last season. Call me all the names you want I can take it but the guy was brilliant even getting assists in cup finals💪. But as much as I love the guy and think he deserves his slot he like Gomez do seem to get injured fairly often and disrupting the team for couple of weeks when settling back in so maybe a more robust signing is needed.

Surely your forgetting about VVD scouse john?

16 Jun 2020 17:39:28
Scouse John L8, why would anyone call you names for stating facts? Matip did play out of his skin from last season even into this one. The prob. is that when he got injured, Gomez took the shirt and played out of his skin for a while there and even outplayed VVD is a few games here and there.

Same thing with Lovren when he came into the team. He played out of the skin for several games as well (was many people's MOTM vs City which is no joke) and kept Gomez out until he got injured and Gomez took the shirt back and hasn't looked back since.

Personally, I like the competition and these players know that it's a battle to play next to VVD BUT I will say that Matip and Lovs are too injury prone and can't be relied. Gomez is diff. cos tho he picks up injuries, he is still young and his body is till developing so hopefully, he can shrug that off.

Sounds perfect. I think you want a busy cb and a laid back one. I don't believe hoever and vdb are ready to play in the prem full time. If lovren leaves then I think we need another senior cb.

17 Jun 2020 03:44:53
I like gomez and vvd. I think they're as a formidable duo that exists in world football. But with lovren looking to leave we don't have cover at lcb. Klavan gone and lovs potentially gone. Someone who can play both, like dejan, would be perfect. Is this Diego Carlos you are talking about? Looks decent to me. Vvd is not a nasty cb, lovs is and I like to have a henchoz backing up my hypia.

This is the struggle we find ourselves in as current Liverpool fans debating over who was our best centre back last season with all 3 putting their case forward for it. How times have changed under Klopp. Shows what a great position our club is currently in.
