Wow that was a surprise. I mention that replacing our front 3 (who will be 31,30, and 31) and two key midfielders who will also be in their 30s (gini and Henderson) in two years time means we'll likely not win another title for a while and suddenly I'm super negative.

Now it is fair to say that minamino and elliot have been brought in to replace people - but who? Ed seemed to suggest that they're replacing mane and salah (I don't think they'll score the same amount of goals but let's be optimistic and assume they do) that still leaves Henderson, gini and Bobby to replace. And we will be replacing them at a time when the market has likely stabilised again and prices will be expensive again.

But again let's be optimistic and say that minamino and elliot both score 50% of our goals like mane and salah do - OR - that they chip in and mane and salah still score most of what they score now even though they will be old and lacking the pace which is central to how we attack.
Whoever we but to replace the remaining players will need to hit the ground rubbing, which currently doesn't happen. Our signings need half a season to bed in where they play close to zero games.
But let's assume that elliot, minamino are 100% ready to step in and contribute (despite having little game time now) and that the new signings (which we were able to make despite having no money) hit the ground running (despite not being standard practice for us) and the whole team gels the same way it has in the past - with the exception of City who have a big job coming up, every other major team has or is in the middle of rebuilding now and will be further along with that in two years than we will.

Taking all that into consideration is it really pessimistic to say we might not win another title for a bit? Remember I didn't say it was end times for LFC all I said is we will likely not win another title for a while.

I don't think that's pessimistic at all, it's pretty plausible. Yall took that post very personally for no reason, my post history is not one of pessimism at all. And neither was that one.

I mean you seem to think we will be screwed when the market returns to normal, yet we built this team while the market was normal. Nothing you say is optimistic or makes sense. Well let's not be hasty Ed. There is a discussion to be had. You made just as many assumptions as me. You assumed elliot and minamino would be absolutely fine despite there currently being no evidence to support this. You did just as much guesswork.

You're being very dismissive of everything I said for no reason. I'll take your point about us doing well in the transfer market previously and that's a valid point, but again you made the assumption that we will be back to normal at that point while I used the current information - which is that we are struggling. Is it an assumption? Yes but no more an assumption than what you said.

We both made assumptions - you assumed best case scenario and I assumed current case scenario will continue.

Do people just hit 30 and then magically become useless overnight? Funnily enough this team of "old" players has us over 20 points clear and only need to win 2 more games to win our first title in 30 years. We have done well in the market so far. There may not be a lot of money available but we have brought in a few players who didn't cost the world and they have done alright haven't they?

Mane and Salah are both supremely fit and look after themselves, so it’s not unrealistic to expect them to be functioning at the same level for the next 3/ 4 seasons.

Nevada all entitled to our opinions mate and you make some very good points. Personally I just enjoy every season as it happens. I will worry about the 2022/ 23 season in July 2022. I’m sure Klopp will be looking ahead to then and he will have a number of staff also looking ahead. But for me my full focus is on finishing this season and then I’ll be looking forward to next.

If pacy wide players like Robben and Ribery could play at their peak till 32-33 in spite of their history with injuries, machines like Salah and Mane should have no issue playing at the highest level for another 3-4 seasons at least. Same for Firmino who has another 2-3 top seasons in him yet.
The long term replacements for Salah and Bobby are already at the club (Elliot and Minamino) . Most likely, Klopp's will target a young left winger next summer as a long term Mane replacement/ competition. Beyond that, we are fine up front for a good few years.
Klopp's I expect will sign a midfielder to replace Gini in 2 seasons and a CB to replace Matip.
I just don't see what the concern is. Just because we are not spending money does not mean the rebuilding process has not started. We are just doing it a little more quietly compared to other clubs.

It's not fifa players don't automatically fall off a cliff when they hit 30. Nobody knows how the youngsters will get on or if we buy a young player who turns out to be a world beater. It's impossible to predict so just enjoy the team we have whilst we have it and enjoy the ride.

Minamino was a star for rbl so that implies he can really play, which of course he can. And elliot was the youngest player ever in the pl, that implies he can play, which of course he can.

We are in ucl again so more TV money to spend next year. Our team is in its prime. Now is not the time to worry about it. If everyone did that we'd sell everyone once they reached 26/ 27 and buy 21 Yr old. We lost one pl game last season, we are going to win it this year, we are on an upward trajectory, that is obvious. And klopp made us competitive before he spent big money in vvd and alisson etc. The reason people responded to the op was because it was so un called for.

{Ed002's Note - He has never played for RBL - he was a Salzburg player in an entirely uncompetitive Austrain league playing against sides which in the main you would never of heard of in sub Division 2 stadiums. I would not start thinking about next year's spending - get rid of what is now due in terms of debt, address the losses for next year and perhaps scratch the stadium work for a while.}

Oh okay ed02, he was decent in the ucl though eh. And clearly a very good player. I suppose it's lucky we have a team in their prime and not on the verge of retirement then.
