Hi Eds, if Klopp wants to build a dynasty then why buy a very expensive 27 year old centre back in Diego Carlos to partner VVD instead of a highly rated 21 year old centre back such as Konate or Upamecano? Along with Joe Gomez, who is 23, this makes more sense for the future.
Thanks.

Because at 27 you can comfortably have at least 5 years at the top of your game. Possibly even longer if you’re game doesn’t rely on pace as a CB.

Because at some point in that 5 years, Joe Gomez could well be one of the top CB in world football by that point.

Because Konate or Upmecano are not an upgrade on Gomez?

Don’t whine.

I guess his arguement will be that at 27 he will be buying a player at his peak. 27 is still young for a CB they should have atleast another 5 years at top level if they work effectively.

that said i am hoping we aren't looking to buy him as this would really put a dent in gomez's development and he may question his position.

Coz no one questions Klopp 😅😅😅. If he targeted a young guy the same fans will say he has at least 10 years in top flight football plus, he could be moulded, plus it’s an investment sorted for a decade etc etc.

Diego Carlos is a very good player who lacks pace!

Very difficult to question a manager that has got us to 2 CL finals, on the verge of winning the holy grail and other minor trophies.

I do agree that we as fans see the best in a new signing tho, it's called support mate. 👍.

Barakdee - Diego Carlos is much, much better than either RBL CB you’ve mentioned.
Sevilla’s defence has improved enormously since last season - I know they have a different manager but Carlos is a huge reason for it.
I would honestly expect a defence of Alisson, Robertson, Virgil, Carlos and TAA to be aiming for under 20 goals conceded across a season.

What a world we live in 27 and your just about done.

Am not whining or saying anyone is done at 27 and fully trust in Klopp knowing more than us, but simply pondered why an expensive 27 year old CB who is, from what I've read, not the fastest Centre Back, would be a base to build a dynasty instead of investing in a very good young CB such as Konate (who some say is an upgrade on Joe) who could rotate with Gomez. That's all.

He's younger than lovren by 3 yeas. So we have at least made our defence 3 years younger and the guy has more time to learn. Teams always go down our tight to avoid vvd. Coz gomez is young they pressurise him. Good luck trying that with Carlos. I think it would make us harder to beat and give us good options.

Klopp - "they showering balls tpwatd gomez and Trent, bring on Carlos. Vvd gives you a soft shove Diego Carlos will attempt to break you skull for 45 minutes.

27 is young for a cb. They hit prime at 29/ 30. A player with vvds fitness and reading of the game will be top of his game for another 5 years at least.

The important question in this restricted financial climate is can you replace Lovren with a player who will be better for the same amount of money, on an annual basis? Diego Carlos fits the bill football wise but definitely not finance wise.

The more I think of it, the more I feel that after the pass on the Werner opportunity, Klopp will not be allowed to break the bank unless it is for a Havertz. I still prefer their looking for a suitable LB backup player (instead of a FB) but maybe there isn't one in their eyes? it's going to be a year of consolidation and all that. I'm aware of the Afcon situation and players being gone, but then why didn't they pull the trigger on the Werner deal if it's of so much concern to them?

And anyways we have an extended transfer window until October this year. So maybe they are using a wait and see posture to pick out the best possible transfer targets. Seeing players play for at least a month (when all European leagues have resumed) will definitely all for a better choice (s) that will join the team running.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have not made any approach for Havertz.}

How exactly would Havertz fit in is beyond me! The lad is a purest form of a playmaker and we don’t play with one nor our system allows to. As for Carlos, he would cost upwards £60 mill.

23 Jun 2020 20:57:07
I have watched a bit of Havertz this season and I don't really get what all the fuss is about. His form has been pretty average most of the season only picking up when there have been no fans in the stands. The majority of his goals seem to come with his head, the new Fellaini perhaps?

{Ed002's Note - Lucky Liverpool can’t afford him then.}

Buying a 27 year old is not an automatic negative especially as a CB to play in a team who has 60+% of the ball which means our CBs aren't going to be exerting as much physical energy as others. VVD wasn't far off the age when he came in while the likes of De ligt or John stones are proof that splashing big money on potential for the future can turn into weakening your quality at the back.
