ED001 firstly i hope you are well.
In light of liverpool's first title in 30 years, hypothetically speaking what would you do to keep the reds at the top if you was in charge?
Also your thoughts on the fact there is more uproar about illegal football streams from the potential newcastle owners than there is about the fact a man was beheaded in a embassy.
Sorry to get political on my last point but i have always loved your no holds barred views on all subjects.
Enjoy the match tonight, i am looking forward to the guard of honour as much as the match itself.

{Ed001's Note - to keep the reds on top there is very little needed. Right now there are no players out there that we could reasonably expect to sign that would improve the first XI. So we can't continue on the way we were, by building on the first team. That means, in my opinion, we have to look to another blueprint to keep success rolling in, the one that Paisley employed during his time in charge. It was very rare he bought players to slot straight in to the first team, what he bought were players to grow into the team after a spell learning to play the Liverpool way.

That means looking at what the gaps are in the squad, as well as who is ageing and will need replacement soon. We have one major gap, cover at left back. Then we have a few players heading into their final few years with the team, so we have to look at bringing in players who can grow into their position. For now that leaves two priorities for me, a left back and a centre back, that need bringing in this summer over anything else.

Up front and in midfield, we have enough for a couple of seasons at least, but in defence we have 4 main centre backs, 2 of whom are made of tissue paper and another one who has had a few injury problems. After that we have two youngsters, who the club clearly do not feel are ready or there would not be the interest in Carlos.

The other important thing is to clear out players at the right time, Paisley was ruthless and he knew when to get rid. We have a few that need to go for their sakes, Lovren and Shaqiri being the obvious ones. But I would also say we need to sell a few fringe players who are not going to make it such as Wilson and Woodburn before it is too late for them to make their own way elsewhere.

Other than that, we just need to look at keeping ahead of the pack tactically, examine improvements we can make in areas such as set-pieces and in coaching. Do we have a coach that helps the forwards the way Xavi Valero used to? If not, I think it would be a good idea to find someone, because the one thing we do is make chances, but we often seem to lack clinical finishing. We also get plenty of set-pieces but don't get enough goals from them.

As for the last point, money is more important to the rich than anything else. The man beheaded I know very little about the incident, other than it has been decided it was Saudi's fault and blamed on them. There does seem to be clear evidence etc, but no one has been tried in court and found guilty so it is a very grey area. Powerful people don't get into places of power with clean hands very often, so maybe the issue is not that important to those that matter because they are in no position to judge? Most governments around the world send out people to terminate those they deem a threat, this is after all a head of state, so it is no such much the beheading that is the issue as the man who was killed and why it happened. It is quite odd that the media are not creating an uproar about this, when it is them being threatened by the act.

Cheers mate, I hope you are all good there and staying safe so you hopefully enjoy a new era of dominance for the Red Machine!}

Thanks for such a detailed reply ED001. i agree that we need to be ruthless when the time calls for it, that includes squad players, young players and of course when the time is right the front 3, we must not allow sentiment to creep in and undo all the good work, as quickly as we have made it to the top, wrong choices can just as quickly send us down again.
Looking forward to the Hendo shuffle and seeing the trophy decorated in red Ribbons.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate. It is not just about them getting past their best, it must be remembered that players can get comfortable and let their own standards drop without competition. So you have to offload some just to remind them that if their performances drop they could go to and bring in some to push them to improve even further.

What are your thoughts on a guard of honour? Personally I don't get the point. Why even have one? I don't remember one in the past and really do think it seems just odd.}

Great analysis, Ed01. Just hope Klopp can do what you suggest which I guess he was doing with trying to replace the front three early on with Werner and Mino before we pulled out of the Werner deal as well as trying to add a CB and a LB. Hopefully, he can do this and more to keep us hungry and on top of our game.

{Ed001's Note - and he brought in players like Elliott to be brought through.}

Brilliant read Ed. Love the way you brought Paisley's ruthlessness into the conversation, hard to believe that a soft spoken man in a pair of slippers from the north-east would sell a player in a blink of a eye if he thought their time at the club was over. Oh and as for the guard of honour I don't think it's necessary mate.

{Ed001's Note - great manager Paisley, he learnt from Shanks' few mistakes and did the impossible and improved things.}

Ed. Do you think Wilson hasn't got what it takes to be a suitable player for us going forward?

{Ed001's Note - he is too lazy and doesn't track back. He will be nowhere near the team unless he bucks his ideas up.}

Hopefully Pepe can learn from JK just like Paisley did from Shanks.
