Ed01 - away from the doom and gloom of that poor performance, wanted your take on VAR and in particular the handball rule.
Mahrez's disallowed goal - obviously in the grand scheme of things it meant nothing in that game, and more importantly the league, but in other circumstances that could have been a deciding factor in the championship.
We've had it go for and against us this season, and I can honestly say I've not agreed with it once. I get a goal being scored with a hand, accidentally or not, being disallowed, but surely they've got to look at this "accidental handball leading to a goal" b*****ks?

{Ed001's Note - more to the point, how did they spot that but not Ederson's clear handball outside of the box? It is ridiculous ruling out their last goal for that, but even more stupid when they can't spot one that should be given, rather than one that shouldn't.}

Genuine question - what do the rules say on that regarding a keeler out of his area?
Clear as day it hit his arm, but trying to take the red tinted glasses off (and I only saw one quick replay) it did look accidental.
Again though shows how ridiculous the rule is, if that can be classed as accidental and therefore not handball, but an accidental handball that leads to a goal IS handball?
Proper nonsense as far as I'm concerned.

I thought VAR is there to back up the refs decisions, not to call a foul. The ref didn’t blow for Edersons handball outside the box so VAR can’t intervene. Right?

I thought I was the only one that saw Ederson clearly touched the ball with his hand when he came flying out. Thought I was going mad when none of the commentators mentioned it.

This is the the biggest flaw in the rules at the moment in my eyes, because it’s one rule attacking, another defending.

I hate the ‘if the ball touched an arm it’s no goal’ rule. As a attached you could have had a flick of your arm from a deflected cross 3 metres away, no movement towards the ball and no unnatural position. You could then be stood with an open goal, but you’d be better served turning around and passing to your own goalkeeper, because you know it’ll be disallowed.

But a defender it’s completely different.

There needs to be clear guidelines - there needs to be the same rules no matter where on the pitch you are.

I’d also most say if you have made every effort to not let it hit your hands, ie they are by your side and no movement towards the ball, a pen or foul should not be given.

The rule has to change next year, they put it in to try and make it black and white but now you just have loads of goals cancelled out for little reason.

That whole handball rule is a complete disaster and I knew it the moment City dropped two points vs Spurs very early in the season. And the worst, Ederson clearly handled the ball outside of the box when challenging Salah and still, nothing. Disgraceful.

they need to get VAR right going into the new season.
