Hi ED002, hope you are good!

I wondered if you could please provide an overview of LFC's 5 year commercial plan?

I would be particularly interested to see how they intend to improve revenue in a way where the business is self sustained. Also, what their plans/ timelines are to reach the heights financially of other cash rich clubs on a local and global level. As you have reported significant investment has already been made for the new training facility and ground expansion, are there are any other areas of investment the owners are looking at in the future / next 5 years? Finally from your understanding are the targets being met commercially?

Apologies for the 'brain dump'. It's a question I'd been meaning to ask for a while but just not got around to it until now.

Thanks for your great insight as always.

{Ed002's Note - All clubs have plans (and they are usually 5 year medium term plans) that set out goals to help the club grown from a commercial perspective. Liverpool will not yet have an idea of what comes next when their Standard Chartered deal runs out in three years but they will be looking to negotiate with potential options a year before it runs out. Plans typically include looking for new sponsors and new markets that can be exploited. The club is already high-profile so that does start to limit opportunities. The issue that has really thrown the spanner in to the works is the pandemic. Clubs will be aware that they will face significant losses this year and next, and will also know that there may be a reluctance by sponsors about getting involved in new or expensive deals - as they don't have the money. The deal with Nike will be a success if shirts are sold, but many folks may simply not have the disposable income to spend £50 on a football shirt. So right now, clubs will be looking again at their plans.}

Do you know if clubs are changing there ideas or coming up with new ideas because of the C.V.?

{Ed002's Note - All clubs will be thinking what the best way forward is for them commercially. But sponsors will be looking at the return on their investments as well - so money will be tighter.}

Maybe it's time for football clubs to branch out to eSports! What do you think Eds?

{Ed001's Note - a lot of them are as there is big money to be made in that arena now. I expect to see more and more of them employ official eSport teams, particularly FIFA players for footie teams. The lockdown has increased the viability of it, more and more people are now following eSports, they really should have been on the wagon a while ago to be honest.}

Thanks for your response ED002. Really appreciate it.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

I know PSG/ Schalke had a foray into league of legends a few years ago, city were advertising for an eSports director in 2017. Hopefully Liverpool will jump in soon!
