It looks like if we get alcantra it will be at Gini's expense, I think that is disappointing if that's the case.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Jul 2020 17:52:44
Why? He’s twice the player Gini is.

18 Jul 2020 18:23:21
Twice the player? Get out of here with that nonsense. Gini outclassed him twice in the champions league last season, plus Gini isn’t afraid of putting the hard work that Klopp wants from his midfielders. Gini is one of the top midfielders in the country and in Europe and there’d be a queue a mile long if we made him available.

{Ed025's Note - you are over-egging gini there 6 times, hes a half decent midfielder who goes missing too often to be classed as "one of the best in the country"...say no to drugs... :)

18 Jul 2020 18:23:53
Why do fans have such short memories
Ever hear that saying a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
How do you know he would come to Liverpool and be better then gini has been for us?

18 Jul 2020 18:32:54
There’s absolutely no way that Klopp would get rid of Gini imo.

18 Jul 2020 18:39:14
I wouldn't take much notice of Ed25, he didn't rate Henderson either. Keep saying no to drugs Ed 🤣.

{Ed025's Note - jordan improved over the last 18 months IR and i openly admit that i was too quick to judge him and in fact fabinho, but take it from me mate..gini is a journeyman who will do a job at times but will go down in history as joe average..

18 Jul 2020 18:57:04
Sorry Ed,
The boy changed the Barcelona semi off the bench at half time with two goals. forever a red legend . average players don’t dominate Barcelona midfielders ;) . Not forgetting his skill to turn, shift the ball and leave 2 Barcelona midfielders dead in that game.

Probably worth the transfer fee for that game alone ;)

Bit more than average joe in my humble opinion.

{Ed025's Note - one great day does not make a summer triangle, an option from the bench for me mate but never a regular starter for me..just an opinion of course..

The red tinted glasses on here is baffling! Just because someone plays for us doesn’t mean there aren’t better players in the same position at other clubs around the world who would be an upgrade on what we have. We seem to bestow quite a lot of hero status on our players based on 1 match against Barcelona.

18 Jul 2020 19:56:45
You’re underestimating and under rating what his job is in the centre of midfield. His job is to literally recycle possession, keep the ball moving, press the opposition and win it back and get things started again, which he does relentlessly at a cost to his own natural game. He’s physically strong and clearly in good nick as he rarely misses games through injury, yeah, he’s a water carrier in our system, but he’s a bloody good one.

Your boy Alcantara is such a 9 stone weakling he’d get blown over by a gust of wind on a cold November evening in Burnley.

18 Jul 2020 20:14:39
What a daft statement. Off course there are better players. Does any club have the best player for every position? Does Gini suit they way we play, which is the more important question? Also to say that posters are basing their "hero" status on one game is just ignorant on your part. To do what Liverpool have done over the past two seasons requires no passengers, which Gini has played plenty and every player doing their job. Gini has a lot more good days than bad and certainly not the definition of a journeyman footballer.

18 Jul 2020 20:31:21
9 stone weakling like David Silva? He seems to cope just fine with Burnley and the UK weather.

18 Jul 2020 20:44:03
On reflection I can see the preference for alcantra he is a baller, I would like too see them both playing for us but alcantra is a baller an we need that we need a new look in midfield .

18 Jul 2020 21:16:17
To be clear I never said get rid of Gini, Its just my opinion that Thiago is a better player and would give us a more creative midfield than we have. We will let the 34 year old Milner leave on a free if Leeds want him. I think Ox is the player who needs to be worried because he contributes next to nothing.

18 Jul 2020 21:48:56
Thiago is 29 though I'm very confused as to why we would shell out for a player with no resale value when there are so many younger midfielders who could potentially enhance our midfield.

18 Jul 2020 22:05:27
Casey, you said Thiago was twice the player Gini is, so was clearly with reference to Gini and not Milner.

I would love you to show me the stats that prove this.

19 Jul 2020 00:07:31
Thiago is a good player, Wijnaldum is a good player. Why do people feel the need to run a player down in order to build another player up?

{Ed0666's Note - I think our fanbase can’t handle the fact that we can’t afford shiny new toys so they have to malign the toys they already have. Seriously underrated player is Gini...he would walk into any premiership teams midfield, yes even City’s. If he had a Brazilian surname we’d be purring about him. The guys won us the premiership and the European cup what more can he do?

19 Jul 2020 09:51:56
Casey, "Thiago is twice the player Gini is". Based on what, exactly? You cannot just throw out blanket statements as an opinion with absolutely nothing/ no points to back it up and expect that people not challenge such an absolutist statement.

N btw IMO, Gini is a class midfielder capable of playing any CM position on the field. Why? He plays the no.10 brilliantly with Holland while playing any position and doing anything Klopp asks him to play/ do in our midfield. He can be creative if asked cos he does that for Holland but Klopp does not need him to do that cos our creativity comes from or FB, Bobbie and the front three as a whole. Sorry, a player that can patent his game to suit any demand is not half the player Thiago is. No way, IMO.

Now if you want to know how great Gini is, go watch the post match analysis of the City game at Anfield and listem to what Roy Kean, Souness, Jose and Kompany have to say about how brilliant Gin and our whole midfield is. Those are my points to support my opinion. Where are yours to support your opinion?

19 Jul 2020 12:07:02
When I say lightweight it’s about strength and application, to quote Ed025, Alcantara doesn’t have it IMHO and clearly Silva does.

20 Jul 2020 01:45:52
So many exaggerated views of these players abilities or certain attributes ye think are much weaker than they in fact are.

Can we not appreciate both are very good footballers with fantastic careers to date winning the best titles while playing important roles regularly for the best sides to achieve that. To simply say thiago is a weakling who gets pushed around is clueless when he's in fact very good at winning the ball back from other players. Both players are excellent in what they offer their teams in midfield regardless of their differing strenghts or weaknesses being compared so dramatically false by many posts. Barcelona, Bayern, Liverpool, Netherlands, Spain, CL titles, la liga, bundesliga, premier league, CWC all part of their CV as first team regulars under managers like klopp, ancelloti and guardiola clearly showing huge admiration. You'd wonder how xavi, iniesta, Silva, modric, verrati, cazorla for example managed to survive with their physique that you see as a fault.

{Ed0666's Note - ability will always supersede a powerful physique. George Best was wiry and 9 stone wet but didn’t stop him being one of the greatest footballers of all time. Same with Cruyff.
