Hi Ed001
Just a bit torn between the youngsters we have and giving them chances next season as opposed to buying.
Knowing that we will have to sell to bring in players, what's your opinion on rather giving Sepp, Hoever and Williams a chance to prove themselves.
With Klopp having 4 years left, by the time his contract is up, the likes of names i mentioned including Elliot, Williams and Jones will be well establish in the first team. So will it be necessary to look for a bargain buy or a VVD challenger?
Added to that, do you think one of the front 3 will leave at the end of next season?

{Ed001's Note - unless we can afford ones good enough to make the first team then it is better to go with feeding in youngsters.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Ed. The last 25 years suggest spending on multiple players rarely works, the past 5 years recruitment spending wisely on the Right player is better.

{Ed001's Note - it always is, you are better to have gaps in the squad that are filled with youngsters than panic buying lots of players.}

Eg. Neco and Curtis.

If there really is little to no money, let the kids step up and just go get Thiago (when a top class player wants to sign you don't pass it up) . Looking at the first team players who are probably leaving do any really need desperately replacing? Only a handful of them made a noteworthy number of appearances anyway.

(Only listing players included on the 1st team page of the official site at one stage) .

GK:
- Andy Lonergan (0 apps)
- Loris Karius (0 apps)
+ Caohmin Kelleher

DEF:
- Nathaniel Clyne (0 apps)
- Dejan Lovren (14 apps)
- Nathaniel Phillips (1 apps)
- Yasser Larouci (2 apps)
+ Neco Williams
+ Ki Jana Hoever
+ Sepp Van Den Berg

MID:
- Adam Lallana (22 apps)
- Xherdan Shaqiri (10 apps)
- Pedro Chirivella (6 apps)
- Marko Grujic (0 apps)
- Harry Wilson (0 apps)
+ Curtis Jones
+ Thiago Alcantara
+ Harvey Elliott

FWD:
- Sheyi Ojo (0 apps)
- Taiwo Awoniyi (0 apps)
+ Brewster

Even at left back maybe Lewis, Gallacher or Norris will break through next season.

Henderson, Hoever and Fabinho have all covered at centre back in a crisis. It might even end up being Henderson's future position considering his age, ability in the air, range of passing from deep, composure in his own half, organisational qualities etc. Lothar Matthaus did it 🤷‍♂️.

I agree we had years of constantly buying average players. No point now buying padding (as ed002 calls it) might as well just try to buy one guy ready for the first team.

We need to do better off the field and capitalise on our success the latest standard charter, Western Union, Axa deals were £25m light, at least! We have never marketed the club properly we need to get a top person in to completley overhaul this side of our club. We are the best in the world on the pitch so let's start getting to that level off the pitch we have a massive gap to fill.

24 Jul 2020 20:22:18
When Salah or Mane don't play we miss forwards that can go pass people. Even investing in a young player who can develop to there level would be more beneficial rather than playing Ox or Origi outwide.

That said maybe elliot will develop into that player he is still young, you'd expect him to get a few more games next year. Think another in a similar mould that has some real pace like mane would be great.

24 Jul 2020 20:52:42
To be honest Jordz, i don't think its about ability to beat a man. I just think aside from Mane and Salah, none of our other players shoot enough. We try and pass it into the bet sometimes.

Brewster should be brought back for me. I see him being our Gabriel Jesus. Play him in the domestic cups, as an impact sub, and to cover injury. He'll get plenty of game time if we actually stop going out of both Cups in January. The next step in our development is being competitive on 3 or 4 fronts instead of just 2.

24 Jul 2020 20:57:25
I am perfectly ok with our young guns filling out the squad in place of the outgoing senior squad players. But we desperately need another top quality forward (and I mean TOP QUALITY) to rotate/ challenge the front 3. I wouldn't mind if that one versatile top quality forward was our only signing.

{Ed025's Note - unfortunately richarlison and calvert lewin are not available IB.. :)

24 Jul 2020 21:24:32
Ed025, if i'm brutally honest mate i think DCL, Holgate, Richarlison and Digne are the only 4 players in your entire squad who would make our bench. Carlo has a very big job on his hands. Mainly in the midfield area where Gomes is the only Premier League quality player at your disposal. But also in between the sticks. Pickford isn't even Championship level for me. He's stealing a living and i honestly don't know how he's got to where he is because at no stage in his entire career has he looked good enough.

You should definitely be excited about the DCL-Richy partnership though. Both very young and already working well in tandem and bagging goals. If you can get a decent team behind them maybe one day Merseyside will dominate again like in the 80's. I'd rather your boys than Manchester and London clubs!

{Ed025's Note - i feel exactly the same HMB, i cant argue with anything you say there but my only caveat would be that DCL needs to improve on his finishing, carlo has a massive job on his hands and we can only dream of being in the same bracket as the reds mate..

24 Jul 2020 21:38:50
Actually someone like Richarlison is exactly what Klopp should be looking for to strengthen our forward depth. Origi is just not good enough while Minamino is more of a Bobby backup.
Maybe we can trade the community shield we win at the start of next season plus Origi for Richarlison. Everyone wins where LFC upgrade their attacking options, the Ev get a half decent replacement in Origi along with a shield (Everton's players r too shot to deserve a cup) .

{Ed025's Note - thanks but no thanks IB, you can have ricky..but we would want TAA, VVD and mane in exchange..

24 Jul 2020 21:44:13
I remember watching DCL score the winning goal in the u20 world Cup final and thinking he was some player. His finishing will come with age. At 23 years old and with his style of play, he's potentially 5 years away from even hitting his peak years.

You are a long way away right now but Ancelotti is the first top class manager you've had in charge since Howard Kendall. It took Klopp 4 years to turn around a 30 year rot so patience will be needed i think.

{Ed025's Note - evertonians and patiece cannot be in the same sentence HMB, but your right mate....its going to take quite a while..

24 Jul 2020 22:03:54
I do agree with you jordz. Mane and Salah are frightening at taking people on by running at them with lots of pace.

We have no one else in the squad who does this anywhere close to their level. I like the look of Filip Stefanovic. I feel he could develop nicely behind them as the first reserve for these 2. But a least someone of that ilk.

24 Jul 2020 23:19:30
Although I agree Thiago is a quality player, if funds really are tight signing a 29 year old would make little to no sense imo, especially when our midfield is stacked already.

Also if funds are tight, we need to be very careful and prioritise the quote on quote weak areas of the squad. With Lovren seemingly leaving, that would be CB, LB and possibly a utility player who can cover across the front 3 (Maybe Minamino an Brewster could cover this already) .

But I agree we don't need major surgery to an already very good squad, and when Klopp has trusted the kids, they've often repaid his faith. I trust in whatever Klopp an the staff have planned, they certainly have earnt it!

25 Jul 2020 04:58:58
Yes I agree that it would be perfect to use the youngsters in all positions and they perform to a high level but I think we need to be cautious of relying too much on them over the season when we are expected to maintain our extreme high standards, I think klopp so far has the right balance but we shouldn't let ourselves get into situations like before where we needed to play the likes of ngog, ibe, shelvey, stewart spearing, wisdom, Kelly more often than we should have as we were so short of squad depth.

{Ed0666's Note - I totally agree mate I’m not an advocate of playing kids just for the sake of it. And of course we can’t afford to drop our high standards as the teams below us will strengthen their squads in comparison to us. For me the only kids that I’d be comfortable with utilizing in the prem is Williams and Jones. I still think their a tiny bit raw and ideally I’d give them one more season each to mature. But if you keep buying players the kiddies fall by the wayside.

25 Jul 2020 09:35:49
Agree Ed, it’s a careful balance of allowing youth to come through, but in a team of Liverpool’s quality it’s tough to see more than one or two getting regular game time without impacting consistency. Personally I think previously those two were Trent and Gomez in recent seasons which has worked out well, and the two in the coming couple of years should be probably be Nico (cover for Trent) and Jones (effectively replacing Lallana who didn’t play much, so not too much pressure) .

The potential gaps I then see are
- upfront, where if we lose either Mane or Salah we struggle to play the same style in attack, so I’d love to see a top wide forward signed in place of shaqiri
- if we sell Lovren and can get DC or Llorente then ace
- Robbo is key to us down the left, with his left foot allowing him to overlap mane and deliver dangerous crosses. I’m on the fence with this one whether to stick with milner as backup (and wait for Lewis/ Larouci) or to get in another backup if they’re not going to make it. On balance feels like a luxury spend if we go outside.

{Ed025's Note - if you get money for lallana and origi like you did for lovren i cant see why a good wide man cant be sought SG, i think kai haverts is the man liverpool need but chelsea look in the drivers seat on that one, i love seeing the youngsters coming through mate but there seems a clamour from supporters for foreign imports who are the finished article..

25 Jul 2020 15:22:24
Lallana has gone as his contract ended Ed.
