Paul Scholes played with a great group of players and never sought the limelight.

Henderson is a very good player, better than most give him credit for, but where he truly excels is as a leader. He brings a very good Liverpool side together and gets them playing greater than the sum of their parts.

In a similar way to Roy Keane but without being a psychopath.

While VvD and Alisson have transformed the defence that kept leaking silly goals and lack cohesion, and Salah and Mane terrorise defences. Firmino and Fabinho do hugely important work for others around them. While Trent Alexander-Arnold is a truly special player. It is Henderson that drives them on, pulls them together and gets that extra 10% out of every player on the pitch.

He is the captain Gerrard always thought he was, and could have been had it not always had to be about him.

I don't think you can deny the captain of the league winning team from being named POTY. While there are far more talented players in the league, you would find it hard to name a more influential player this season.

(Post from Shappy on the United page, thought I'd share it on here for those that wouldn't have seen it, class response an great to see opposition fans giving praise to Hendo 👏)

It is a class post from a rival fan, but I don't agree with some of it. Hendo gets them playing greater than the sum of their parts is nonsense. We have at least 4 players who get in a world 11.

25 Jul 2020 16:02:30
My take was he meant we're better with him than without him Mark. We all know the quality we have.

25 Jul 2020 16:03:15
So do Man City, markp08. It still all fell apart without Kompany. Never under estimate the importance of a leader.

25 Jul 2020 16:21:24
Good Point Harvey, without Kompany and Silva next season, they have lost a big part of their DNA.

25 Jul 2020 16:37:47
You say that and yet City whooped us 4-0 recentmy without Kompany and Silva playing. Also since the break, we have been leaking goals left right and centre. Admittedly winning the league so early with such a commanding lead has inevitably lead to lapses in concentration but it still happened.

25 Jul 2020 16:42:12
Yes Big Poppa, an we also whooped them over a 38 games season to the point were it was over before we restarted 😂.

25 Jul 2020 16:52:08
The City 4; 0 result was meaningless.

We had already won the league.

When the league gets is won that’s it. Job done.

City may say they beat us on that day but we all know it’ means nothing.

We got the trophy and the celebration day to come.

A truly class post and thanks for sharing, OP. Don't sleep on some of these rival fans cos tho many will not admit it but some of them openly, are very respectful and conscious of what Hendo, Klopp and this great team have achieved.

25 Jul 2020 17:09:35
City beat us a few days after our players were dancing about on Skysports News absolutely off their faces 🤣.

25 Jul 2020 17:59:17
TUR maybe you are right and if so that makes more sense.

So do Man City, are you sure? 4 players in a world 11, no chance they get 1 in and we all know who that is.

25 Jul 2020 22:38:38
I wouldn't swap Hendo for Scholes on his prime. Red tinted maybe, but I wouldn't.

26 Jul 2020 03:19:49
I disagree, Gerrard made it about himself because for most of his career he was dragging the team single handedly. Gerrard led by actions, whereas hendo pushes people. Unfair to compare them.

26 Jul 2020 10:04:23
Spot on, Stuie_boy. Comparing both captains to me, is an insult to each one of them and their achievements as players, captains and legends of our club. They are both special captains and unique in their leadership qualities and that should be that. Comparison is futile in this case, IMO.

I don't get how Gerrard doesn't get anything other than completely worshiped by Liverpool fans! He stayed here because of the bond he had with the fans, the love he got. The miracle of Istanbul was Gerrard really eh. Yeah Hanman came on and we were way more effective. The fans were amazing but stevie took the game to Milan who were the real Madrid of those days, and he won.

He gets scorned by fellow pros for not joining Chelsea when they came knocking. Of course he thought about it. They're not fans, they're professional players. But it was his fans heart that made him stay. You'll never hear me say anything derogatory about Steven Gerrard. He sometimes gets knocked because he isn't 100% perfect. But who is? He's just a lad from a tough area who came good. And big picture, he was an excellent role model on the pitch (don't care about off it, he had a fight! Whoipy doo. Find me a footballer who hasn't. Bet liniker has even) the word "legend" is debated. But not in Gerrard case. Undoubtedly a legend in the modern sense of the word. Walked into ANY team in the world in 2009/ 2010 era.
