How is it we have to sell to buy but Chelsea seemingly can buy at will despite us being the more successful side in recent years sky sports reported we will make around 153 mil from competitions this year surely that eclipses what Chelsea will make so why can’t we go for players like Werner and Havertz

Apologies if that sounded like a rant I am actually curious as to how we can’t spend money?

{Ed002's Note - I have explained this repeatedly.}

Agree0 Disagree0

In a nutshell Weston, Chelsea have sold players and have cash to spend. Other issues as well regarding Liverpool too.
It has been answered ad nauseam to be fair. 👍.

OP, Done to Death, man.

27 Jul 2020 21:40:33
As Irish Rover stated and keep in mind how the money earned previously isn’t being earned now and won’t be for an unknown amount of time. Personally I’d rather not spend, bring in the youth who are ready and push on. We were close once to debt wiping us out, let’s not let all the hard work the last few years to make us better financially be wiped clean to buy a player or two who may never improve the team.

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that BR..

27 Jul 2020 21:50:24
I didn't think we would come as close to city this season as we did last season as we didn't spend a penny so thought we would go backwards instead of forwards. obviously i was wrong. but I do think if we go on this logic again we shoot our self in the foot and I'm worried about Chelsea more than City next year.

27 Jul 2020 22:03:32
Ed002, how much do you pay for your home insurance? Because you spend 50% of the day banging your head against the wall.

27 Jul 2020 22:19:33
Chelsea have 33 points to make up mate. The equivalent of Liverpool losing another 6 games and Chelsea winning 5 more of their games that they lost this season. It's a big ask!

{Ed002's Note - I think you will find they are both starting on zero points.}

27 Jul 2020 22:40:41
It is unreal though isn’t it. Finally, we win the league with a world class manager and we can’t support him with funds to keep us on top. And we spent hardly anything last year. Truly Unbelievable and heartbreaking.

{Ed002's Note - The club has to balance the books. There will no doubt be a couple of players arriving.}

27 Jul 2020 23:39:36
Rsanchez - I would be a lot more worried about city next year. Two more quality signings joining and massive desire to win league back of us.

Chelsea will have a great squad as will ManU but city will be the front runners I believe.

27 Jul 2020 23:41:42
"Truly unbelievable and heartbreaking". Sweet baby jesus the absolute over reaction on here at times is hilarious. Get a grip.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not so sure it’s such an ignorant comment.

Some people who are naive about the finances and costs associated with being so successful would possibly find it ‘unbelievable‘ that world, European and English champions don’t have much to spend in the transfer market. If it wasn’t for eds 002’s insight into the finances of the club I myself would have a similar opinion.

Furthermore I’m not gonna lie I find it a little ‘heartbreaking’ that Chelsea, United and City are gonna spend vast amounts even in a pandemic and we can’t compete.

28 Jul 2020 00:48:33
mourinho won 2 titles in a row 05 and 06 then added Ballack, Shevchenko, and Ashley Cole. They didn't win the league again for 4 years.

28 Jul 2020 02:58:05
I think city were so back because they don't have any leader left in the team. unless they adress it city doesn't worry me.

28 Jul 2020 01:13:00
That’s the mentality isn’t it? The team that signs the most players will be the best team so suddenly Chelsea are the ones to be worried about?
It doesn’t work that way you only have to ask Ed25 if you don’t believe me! No offence Ed ;-)

{Ed025's Note - your right BP..

28 Jul 2020 05:44:06
If what happens in the transfer market is ‘heartbreaking’ then you need to get out in the real world once in a while.

27 Jul 2020 23:25:40
Great answer ed02 "I think you'll find they are both starting on zero"!

I understand the posters sentiment. But its been said so many times u fear red fans will have a breakdown if we lose our first game and utd or Chelsea win theirs "what happened to those 30 points? "

28 Jul 2020 09:01:00
What’s ignorant and arrogant is thinking we’ll win the league with no top class signings when other teams are / will significantly improve. What’s heartbreaking is having the best manager in the world for yet we can’t give him the top players to help him carry on winning trophies. And you may not be aware but it’s pretty hard to get ‘out in the real world’ right now unless your a twt that goes letting off flares outside Anfield.

28 Jul 2020 09:33:18
Ed's can we have ed002's post about finances pinned at the top with no replies allowed? It seems crazy the amount of questions you have to bat of about the same thing.

28 Jul 2020 11:07:01
If Chelsea and United want to keep spending silly money on exciting forwards then they’re more than welcome to, everybody knows that isn’t they’re problem, they’re both incredibly inconsistent with muddled and undefined styles of play, and neither team can defend very well. I’d hedge more of a bet on Mourinho getting a tune out of Spurs next season than Maguire or Alonso carrying their teams to the title.

28 Jul 2020 11:54:49
the great thing is we all get to find out next season. all im saying is don't sleep on Chelsea. wasn't long ago they were a pony team got a bunch of money and a good young manager and look what happened. serial winners and a lot of championships. as I said. great thing is we will get to find out!

28 Jul 2020 12:28:05
A positive, how many times last season do you think Liverpool hit top gear? personally, I think not even 25% of the time, and I think that should worry teams as much as we seem to worry about who they are signing and we're not.

We won the league by 18 points playing at 70% most of the time.

28 Jul 2020 13:10:33
Rsanchez, we cannot doend money we don’t have. How that is difficult to grasp is beyond me. Ed02, Klopp and the club’s Chief Executive have explained this already. Klopp addressed it again yesterday. Ed02 has given us a breakdown as to how we make our money yet it seems this is not being understood whereas it is not rocket science. Or could it b that people don’t want to believe it do they can have something to moan about?

City spent over 100m last season while Utd spent almost 200m overall and where did that get them? What I am saying is that spending guarantees you nothing while not spending does not mean you will fail either.

Do I want us to sign players? Of course but only if it is worth it and if it won’t lead us to financial ruins in the long term. Many fans may not care about our financial well being as they are too busy checking out other clubs who NEED to spend. The rest of us go do chill out and let us see what happens.

28 Jul 2020 14:09:45
iv never said we should spend money we don't have. iv no idea how it all works and i don't pretend to or recycle what others say. all im saying is don't sleep on chelsea or what they r doing.

28 Jul 2020 17:09:36
If football doesn't break your heart you're no real supporter.

But you have to remember, klopp has spent 4 years building this team and it still has plenty of legs. There's no area that you bite your finger nails over. If we compete I'll be happy enough. Of course I want to win things. But we're not entitled to, we have to fight for it. And I look at our squad and feel sure they will be fighting for titles.

28 Jul 2020 18:44:53
More worried about Chelsea than City? On what evidence? The signing of 2 class players? We just put 5 past them. I'm not that worried about them. City are the danger.

28 Jul 2020 19:06:56
based on gut feeling mate same as u I expect. if I were that clever I'd be making money out of predicting what's gona happen the future. hahaha!
