Wow, City agree a fee of 40m plus add ons for Nathan Ake.
I thought this transfer window would calm down in terms of transfer fees but this shows it probably won't. This high price for a player in a relegated team seems steep.
Maybe there is a sell on fee to Chelsea but still a whopper of a price.
Not good news for us if we do plan to buy any players.

I’m fairly indifferent to this news. They’ve not gone out and bought someone like Koulibaly who would absolutely strengthen them, but someone far below that level. To my mind he’s not as good as either of Gomez or Matip.

{Ed002's Note - What makes you think they are only signing one CB?

Isn't Ake a left sided CB like Laporte and Koulibaly Ed002?

{Ed001's Note - yes and very left-footed.}

In the last 5 years they have spent nearly half a billion on goalkeepers and defence players, so why stop there? It's not working at the moment so they will just keep buying until they get the right ones in.

Great news Imo.

I’m glad they’ve signed Ake, he’s absolutely awful. Man City’s best players were all there before Guardiola joined - he himself has wasted a gargantuan amount of money and Ake will only add to that.
Koulibaly would make them stronger, Carlos would make them much stronger, Ake ensures they suffer another 10 losses in the league next season.

{Ed002's Note - You seem to forget their interest in Carlos as well - and indeed others.}

30 Jul 2020 13:42:43
Can’t think he’d want to join to be a bench warmer? Unless they’re going three at the back. But even then they tend not to go all out to break transfer records, which is quite clever of them.

Ake's terrible. Good thing is Man City and Pep continue to spend money on absolutely dross defenders. Makes Klopp's job of defending our premier league crown slightly easier.

We do very well to compete with them to be honest, the way they shell money on players and there defence is crazy. They will no doubt get Carlos as well as will be out of reach for us.

30 Jul 2020 16:41:32
Man city are likely to sell 2 of there 3 defenders so i expect a decent one to come in this window i mean there spending 40mill on ake so surely the other one they buy will be decent just can't wait to see who it is. as they only
Spent about £180 mill on otamendi stones and mendy.

Do you think they'll have to refinance the Etihad sponsorship deal again to pay for the signings this season? 😉
Completely above board of course to renegotiate the deal again with no competitors to bid against.

30 Jul 2020 18:51:09
They can have Ake cos he is good at best. As someone already said, Stones and Otamendi or both could be off so of course, they would be looking at another CB to come in. We shall see what happens.

Manchester City spend more on defence than most nations.

Love it, Thunderbird 2.
