Hi Ed’s I think this is probably nothing but I was hoping you might be able to shed some light.

Sarr has come out admiring Liverpool in what seems to be saying he would love to play for the club.

My question is would this be Liverpool up to their usual tricks and asking Sarr to fuel speculation or would this be Sarr or his agent trying to provoke a response from clubs looking to buy him, sort of if you don’t get him now he will go to Liverpool sort of thing, or is this simply just the player talking up a club he admires don’t get me wrong I really like the player I’m just trying to get an insight in to how players or agents approach potential transfers.

{Ed001's Note - he is close friends with Mane, he has been saying this for a while, it is just now only making the news because people know who he is now.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people think that the football transfer business is easy and simple like walking down to the store and buying a carton of milk? And add this sense of "code of honor" or chivalry or "doing the right thing" at all times? These are not jousting tournaments from the 15th century. These are multimillion dollar businesses in the year 2020. Nothing is done on the spot. There is planning, following, discussing and strategizing issues (transfers) over long periods of time. Just like any other business. And if something is not right then there are rules and regulations at various levels which dictate and decide any contraventions.

So temper the "Liverpool up to the usual tricks" stuff. Whatever it is that you are referring to is not unique to Liverpool. Some others do it, and some others don't. Otherwise, the club would simply not exist if we were that bad and constant, because it's not exactly a totally free and unregulated area. There are always people watching.

{Ed002's Note - Nobody does the tapping up like Liverpool. Numerous clubs are unhappy with the disrespectful behaviour of the club. Bayern Munich are the latest.}

Regarding tapping up- is it true that when we signed the big Uruguayan centre half, we said "get your Coates, you've pulled"?

Who is mainly responsible Ed002?Also why is the club allowing this person to do so?

{Ed002's Note - He is the head coach.}

Thanks for the reply Ed’s and by up to their usual tricks I mean at risk of being complained about yet again by a club for tapping up their assets I have no doubt that you are right and all clubs do this but seemingly nowhere near as much as Liverpool or at least they have the tact to be sneaky about it.

Clubs will start to jack up prices when we are interested in their players if we carry on.

{Ed002's Note - There has been a verbal comp[laint from Bayern Munich. There has been a little something else but we aren't going to go there.}

This doesn’t make it right but the Stupid thing is they even don’t end up getting the player half the time and certainly not on the cheap. Vvd and navy tapped up and both signed for what at the time was crazy money, and Werner and Thiago they’ve just upset the two clubs and players will have to find another club to move to.

{Ed002's Note - Thiago is possible still but Bayern Munich have opened a dialogue with two clubs who have approached them. The same with Javi Martinez and the loan of Sarpreet Singh - all easy and open discussions.}

13 Aug 2020 15:59:46
Why doesn't someone at the club grab the head coach by Fagan and the two McGee's and tell him to stop as it's embarrassing! What you reckon Ed002 would that work?

{Ed002's Note - It seems to be something he can't change.}

I'm not trying to be preachy, but it is a poor reputation we've developed. Clearly, Bayern's Chief coming out to ask for a fair price and negotiation on a player who has openly said he wants to leave just made me shake my head in disbelief. Couple of journos confirmed what Ed002 has said as well that Klopp is talking with Thiago.
We love him so much and he's the best thing in the world for us right now, but sullying the club's reputation is a sad and disgraceful thing. We may pretend that winning is all that matters or console ourselves by saying "everyone does it, " but we'll just further alienate ourselves and do more damage that will become a mountain to repair when the dust settles.

{Ed0666's Note - there’s two schools of thought on this Noski you either feel the way you do that Klopp is dragging the clubs name in to ill repute with his actions or the converse which is everyone does it so it’s fair game. I’m in group B...whatever it takes to get an advantage.

Ed02, is Klopp a lost cause on this whole tapping up stuff cos he seems to not be able to change?

{Ed002's Note - I am afaraid it is not good enough.}

This whole equation is perplexing. I understand Klopp is doing this time and again but what would be the reasons to not go through the proper channel of informing the club and then chatting with player? Is the formal process more cumbersome, like does it require some kind of official documents to be filed and sent to the club or hours spent compiling information and sending or something more formal which is time consuming that Klopp just wants to circumvent?
Putting my layman hat on, if I know I was to incur the wrath of someone for doing something, why would I continue doing it if there was an easy peasy formal channel available which would still allow me to do something and not make people unhappy?
Ed, on that point, is there a rigorous formal process that clubs need to follow to inform the players club or a simple text/ phone call to players club suffices as 'made contact with the club'?

{Ed002's Note - Somehow it works for other clubs - Werner is a good example. Liverpool never approached his club.}
