Joe Gomez is world class and I cannot think of a better 23 yr old centre back in any league as far as I know.
City would love to have one as good as Joe, we are blessed with defensive talent right across our back line.
We need cover for Lovren but Diego Carlos is not fit to lace Gomez boots!

I've said before on these pages that I think Joe Gomez has everything he needs to be a top player apart from one aspect - he needs to be able to concentrate for more than 15 minutes at a time. That will come with experience.

JG is a good defender but world class! definitely not am afraid. Vvd, Ramos, Godin are world class. Don’t get me wrong I’d do cart wheels if he did turn into one of these but he’s got a long way to go.

Hes definitely not world class! I like Gomez but he does make the odd mistake, he's only human after all but he is young and is still learning. I think we could do with a established and proven CB but money isn't there.

John Wigan, as a defender Ramos is certainly not world class - suspect defending ability, terrible discipline and a poor sportsman to boot.
He is definitely a world class player, however, as little sense as that makes. The influence he has on that team and club is clear, and 4 Champions League titles removes all doubt.

I think to say Gomez is world class is over doing it, but equally he is probably the best young English centre back out there at the moment and if he’s got a mistake in him, then he’s no worse than Diego Carlos who not only has a mistake in him but is rash and also a walking red card. Gomez gets in every other top side team, that’s all I know.

shughes55, chill out with the hyperbole, man. It looks like you are trying too hard to convince people of your opinion.

I love JG to bits and think he has potential to be world class. I mean, any CB who is capable of out-performing VVD sometimes is some olayer to be taken seriously. Having said that, Ed25 is right here.

JG is not WC and tho talented with tremendous ability, he is still prone to the odd mistake, loss of concentration and can be got at when he does not need to be. This is understandable as he is only 23 and still learning the game.

As for us looking at Diego Carlos, not seen enuff of him to be fair but the EL games I have seen of him, Good Grief. The guy is an accident waiting to happen and I dare say, he is not even better than Lovren on his best day. And at 65m, Seville can keep him.

Joe gomez has put in a hell of a lot of world class performances for someone who is aiming to become a "top player"

It's probably going a bit far to call him world class but not much. He's not far off it. As we all say, he often looks more assured than vvd. I was watching us on my phone a few timws last season and they both wear those blue boots, I got them mixed up more than a few times.

If joe continues on this path he will undoubtedly be classed as a world class cb. If we're talking about players 23 and under, he is world class. I can't think of a 23 Yr old cb who is better. Any suggestions?

And I don't often agree with lowel, but ramos is a world class player.

He's got so long left in his career eh ed047. Liverpool don't have tonnes of money this summer and I guess a lot of teams are feeling the pinch. But Joe shows you don't have to spend a fortune to get great players. I'm not sure on the exact amount but it was a found 5mil I believe.

Arsenal are in great need of a decent cb. What defenders at arsenal would you be keen to keep ed047? Do you like David Luiz? I'm torn om him

I like Luiz and when he’s on it he’s very good but his concentration lets him down.

Well we’re supposedly after Magalhaes, have Saliba coming in this season and Mari who I haven’t seen a lot of yet.

I’d definitely keep those 4, if we get Magalhaes, think we’re likely to keep Mustafi (because of his injury) and Holding but the rest will likely move.

Ed025 if you look I’m world football now there a few decent young centre backs with the red bull one probably being the best
But I would put Gomez up there not world class but solid with much room to improve
If de ligt can get to Juventus then anything is possible mate
I think Gomez is perfect for us alongside Virgil.

{Ed025's Note - i agree with a lot of that john but to proclaim him as world class is way over the top at this stage, i would describe him as a work in progress mate and although he has had some good games he has had quite a few mares so for me the jury is still out..

I agree with you Ed025 mate I think the two main things I worry about with Joe is his concentration and his ability to bounce back after a mistake or poor form. The good news is he is only 23 so nowhere near his peak but becoming world class I really can't see it, very good like you said Ed025 then yes.

Don't worry, ed25 always gets proved wrong in regards to our players!
He has had to eat his words on all our starting 3 midfielders last season (Fab, Gini, Hendo) .
Some of our fans go way over the top but you can't play in this team and not be a quality footballer.

Sounds promising ed047. It's pretty clear watching the gunners that they also need a better bullet proof vest (pretty proud of that metaphor for defenders) if you have 3 new lads coming in that can only be a good thing. Honestly I've not seen them as far as I know.

Mustafi sometimes puts in brilliant performances but they're few and far between. And holding is a solid, old fashioned cb, but not good enough for a title challenging team imo

I've always admired arsenal, I think any football fan does. But any team still needs to be able to defend. I've got to be honest, I'm not completely convinced with the gks either.

Have arsenal been linked sith coutinio? I really think he could make a massive difference to you guys.

There are not that many Allison’s and Ederson’s around unfortunately.

Mustafi has definitely got better but whether that’s enough is doubtful.

Be nice to get Partey in midfield and now Barca have a new manager it may not be that they want to get rid anymore. Not sure about him either if I’m honest.
