Guesswork time!

I think 90 points win the league this year.
I think we can get 90 points.
I think only two teams are potentially our competitors namely city and chelsea.

We have to win 17 games at Anfield and 13 on travels. Sounds plausible.

Salah 25 goals
Firmino 20 goals
Mane 20 goals
Midfield and defense 15 goals
Concede around 32-35
12-13 clean sheets.

That should be tye plan.

As boring as it sounds we just need to focus on the next game. 3 points against Leeds to kick off our campaign an I'd hope the mood on here would change! So long as we do that we'll be there or there abouts again no doubt about it.

30 Aug 2020 15:58:55
We will win the league just need to manage it well.
I know klopp likes the press but I cannot see the players keeping it up after three seasons in a row. Well actually 4. Its kind of expected and teams will prepare for it. We need to plan how to get the ball behind parked buses, some stoke city like long ball stuff.

We need to manage. Score quick, walk some games out.
Press hard and be relentless some games.

You never know the amount of points needed. I would have thought 97 points would do it but it didn't. Like TUR above says, 3 points at a time. Accumulate the absolute maximum you can and hope that's enough for good things.

30 Aug 2020 16:27:58
A lot of us, me included, put far too much emphasis on points totals last season. The reality is we got 99pts, 82 would have been enough! As Davey said, previous season before that we got 97 and got diddly squat 😂.

Just got to take one game at a time, give it our all an hopefully we can put together one of those incredible runs that we've seen last 2 campaigns.

30 Aug 2020 16:29:15
OP, we won 97 points (enuff to win the league in ANY season in English football history) and it still was not enuff.

Last season KDB (and I agreed at the time) said the team that wins the PL will not get anywhere near 98 points. How many points did we get last season to finish the league? Exactly.

Guesswork is fun BUT it is futile, IMO cos we are going into a season with games coming thick and fast where teams will be up and down and so will team performances so for me, one game at a time is the best way to go.

30 Aug 2020 17:57:16
If Firmino gets 20 goals, I'll be very happy. I very much doubt it though. It's not what he's about.

30 Aug 2020 17:58:12
As @theunbearablereds said, focus on the next game. That's how we won the league last year. I for one am not thinking of winning the league, just the next game. It's a long season and there will be countless twists and turns in it.

30 Aug 2020 18:23:59
Akrubbish, I like your thinking, but all of our front three will fall short of predicted amounts, no way Bobby gets 20, don't think Salah will get his 20, he fell short this last season, only Mane might get close to 20, but 25, too many really, and he is our best striker,
one game at a time, Leeds will be a tough nut to crack, they have a very clever manager,
but I hope at least one of our boys up front gets his 20 .

30 Aug 2020 18:28:51
Firmino needs to add goals and he will esp because of keita and probably thiago in the side. He wouldn't have to drop ridiculously deep and therefore he should be scoring more.

30 Aug 2020 19:53:40
Firmino is never going to get 20 goals, not in a million years. In fact most games nowadays he’s a complete passenger.

30 Aug 2020 19:54:57
i think the league will be much more competitive this year. 90 points to win? That's a tough one. If the over/ under was put at 90 I'd probably bet over. Can we do that? I think so but we have to be better in the midfield.

30 Aug 2020 20:49:22
Am I the only one who thinks we won't win it this season?
Retaining the league is so hard. I don't think we'll have the same motivation as last year and will struggle to break teams down. I've seen it since lock down and think it'll continue.
Not complaining though as I'm still in dreamland from the last few years.

30 Aug 2020 21:21:54
no brommers, you are not. I don't think we will win the league this year. I do think we have a GREAT chance of winning the Champions league though.

31 Aug 2020 00:00:58
When you have a team of man city's quality, talking about the league as a sure thing is absolutely crazy. They are a phenomenal team, I'm amazed klopp and the boys did it really. We finally win the league by beating the best team the pl has seen (going on points tally)

It will take another season of intense effort. But with Hendo in the team I think it's possible. He epitomises intensity and we look much more urgent with him playing. Utd and Chelsea were miles behind us and city and know they need some decent recruitment and they've done it. It remains to be seen if these players gel. So it's still us and city imo. I think we'll surprise what few skeptics there are. I think we'll see a higher scoring liverpool of the 17m18 and 18/ 19 seasons, I think there is slightly less pressure this year and more confidence. I think the other teams will be closer and I think we will win it.

But you can't really say "we should win it" with a team of city's calibre up against us. They can't really say it either.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not gonna lie and hate to be the angel of doom but I don’t think we’ll reach those heady heights this season you talk about. I hope I’m wrong. I’m worried about the other teams namely city and maybe Chelsea. I also think we’ll draw and lose more a few more games this season. A packed and partisan Anfield was our 12th man without that I think we’ll suffer.

31 Aug 2020 00:16:36
Watch out for united this seasons boys, van de beek and Fernandes in midfield is very strong. And their fixture list seems more favourable than the other top teams. Only saving grace is their manager is awful 😂

I back us to win the league with 85 points this season, will be much much closer than last year tho.

31 Aug 2020 00:20:11
Firmino has got over 20 before in his Liverpool career. Why so sure he can't replicate it?

And he has not been a passenger in many games I saw last season. He scored the winner in the cwc remember. Why this sudden negativity? I don't understand it at all. Whdn you have a spine of Ali vvd Hendo and Bobby you are up there. Season that with wide players like Trent Robbo salah anx mane you're right up there. Add fab, keita, gini and the ox and I don't see why we can't win the league again. What coz Chelsea and utd have signed some players? Let's see them in the prem before we fall at their feet.

31 Aug 2020 00:52:10
That's why I think we'll see a more attacking Liverpool ed666. We're not only good at home. We've shown that. But we can't rely on those one nil wins this season, so we go for the throat. I don't see us rolling over and I don't see us playing the same way, we haven't since klopp arrived (we haven't played the same way from one season to the next)

31 Aug 2020 04:00:09
We will reach 90 points, City lost 9 games last season and Chelsea and those lot from Salford finished closer to the bottom last season than the top, Lampard and that one driving the wheel are poor managers, My top four is 1st Liverpool by some distance, City 2nd, Arsenal 3rd, Chelsea 4th.

We haven’t been found but teams certainly are setting up very similar to try and isolate our strengths. Basically 2 banks of 5 deep which leaves no space for Mane and Salah to run into Behind and then stopping the fullbacks by giving them no space.

Teams know our midfield 3 are workhorses and with bobby will Press very quickly but if we have the ball for large portions of the match they have no reason to press. Then the midfield 3 just keep ball in the middle of the park with very little penetration forward with runs or balls.

Our best attacking threat is from opposition corners as we literally have the full pitch and space to break into. That and set pieces as I think we scored the most from set pieces last season. With teams playing this way I’d like to see us go a little braver this season like we did yesterday when we brought minamino on.

When teams stick so many players behind the ball then rather than have the trusted 3 of Hendo, Fab and Wiji it would be nice to see us have penetrators like Ox, Naby or Extra forwards like Brewster or Shaq on there to make it not so easy for the opposition. Personally I think if we were to sign Thiago this could potentially solve this as he can thread the ball through the eye of a needle and the forwards would love that kind of supply.
