Ed01 can you give us your thoughts on Ben Woodburn. The lads 20 now and after exploding on the scene as a 16 year old scoring for us and Wales it's all gone backwards. He seemed to be a superstar in the making. Is it over you think at Liverpool for him?

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he was ever as good as people hoped to be honest. In short bursts he looked the business, but every time I watched him over a full 90 minutes he just looked nowhere near Premier League level. Particularly physically, he is way off having the pace and power of the modern athletic Prem forwards.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers mate. On another note, I've tried to keep an eye on grujic. I happen to agree with ed02 that he's a lot better than Liverpool fans give him credit for. If I had to describe him I'd say a young hendo at Sunderland. I think keeping him this year is smart. Interested on your thoughts. The other is what does alcantara provide that Phil c didn't? They seem to have similar strengths and weeknesses only Phil is prem ready and not so injury prone.

{Ed001's Note - I like Grujic myself, he has come on in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. The only reason he might go is purely the work permit issue.

Thiago is much better than Coutinho! Coutinho has not got half the quality of passing that Thiago has and doesn't work as hard nor have the level of understanding of the press. Thiago is an intelligent player, Couts tends to just do the same thing over and over no matter what as he doesn't have the sense to change his game.}

So what's holding up this potential transfer of Thiago to Liverpool Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - you are.}

04 Sep 2020 17:18:43
Glad Grujic is doing well, definitely worth integrating him into the team if we don't get Thiago, but I'd love to keep both. Our MF seems to get injured a lot between Keita/ of/ Henri. Grujic/ fabs/ Thiago is looking very nice if we did sell Wini to Barca.

04 Sep 2020 17:25:40
Really hoping we keep Grujic, think the guy will end up a star wherever he goes.

04 Sep 2020 17:39:37
Ed, I agree with you both about Grujic. And you guys seem to know a good player when they see one. Controversial opinion, but maybe we should bin off Keita and keep Grujic?

{Ed001's Note - personally I would actually agree on that one.}

Having listened to the podcasts for a while now and Naby is not Ed01's cup of tea and I can respect that. As for Grujic, he is a very good player and those two years at Hertha Berlin under some good coaching did him a world of good as he was their main man in midfield. The question is can he get a WP and can he play the midfield role the way Klopp would like? That is the question, IMO.

As for Cou, he is not anywhere near Thiago's quality. not anywhere even remotely close. When you watch Thiago play, he is so cerebral and his speed of thought is uncannot. He sees a pass that no one on the field even sees and is a true DLP which is the way Bayern used him, not as a DM, IMO.

I think people love Cou cos he was one of our best players in a team that was pretty average and weak in several areas. Everything seemed to go thru him which brought the best out of him, and hampered us as a team cos when a team shut him down, we were out of ideas. Klopp addressed this in an interview and wanted to change that.

{Ed001's Note - actually it is not that he is not my cup of tea, it is that he is not living up to his potential. I just don't know if we should give him any more time, he has had long enough and still seems more interested in posting up pictures of himself on private jets etc.}

Ed01, I understand what you mean and indeed, you have said in those podcasts that Naby is underachieving. He is too talented to fail, if you like and I can see that as well. I just hope he can put it together all the way.

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed he finally achieves it this season.}

04 Sep 2020 19:23:16
To me Naby looks lightweight and ineffective, yeah he plays one or two nice passes occasionally, but he gives the ball away cheaply too often through being too casual or just plain sloppy and doesn’t put the graft in. He also doesn’t apparently speak English (citation needed) and there was that other business recently, Grujic seems the polar opposite, hard working, committed and uses his talent that he’s got to maximum effect.

04 Sep 2020 19:28:11
Cheers Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome Bazza, just waiting on you to sort it out now....}

04 Sep 2020 19:36:11
Naby does give the ball away cheaply but I also think bobby does as well. But the reason for both I think is they try more risk reward passes. I think if Naby was going for the Hollywood ball 9 time’s out of 10 then there would be cause for concern. He doesn’t bring the high energy that Hendo and Wiji bring but I suppose all players have their strengths and weakness’s. If Klopp can sort out Naby’s energy levels and he keeps fit then he could definitely be a big player for us this season. Especially with teams sitting extremely deep and with 11 men behind the ball against us.

04 Sep 2020 19:43:05
We are in John Lennon airport carpark as we speak playing Guess Who to sort out the terms of the contract. Everytime I guess right he has to agree to my terms and visa versa.

{Ed001's Note - knowing you then we are going to be paying him double.}

04 Sep 2020 19:52:30
Probably🤷‍♂️.

04 Sep 2020 20:48:29
I’ve always had a soft spot for naby as I do think he has the potential to be a top player but sadly I I just think he may end up being too inconsistent. Have maybe 4/ 5 good games then three really bad.

He has it in his locker to prove me wrong and I really hope he does. He’s wearing the number 8 he could really make a name for his self.

04 Sep 2020 21:43:19
JK23, that is the thing regarding Naby. He takes risks in his passing and that is what I love about him as well. The opposition always back off a few yards when he is driving forward and can find a pass as well. Check out his assist vs Villa for Mane. I did not think that pass was even there and I bet you, only Naby saw that pass cos I certainly didn't.

It is what he does or how switched on he is when we lose the ball or out of possession that is my problem. His energy levels may not be as high as Gini or Hendo but that may be due to him trying to get a consistent level of fitness. I just hope he can improve on this front cos offensively, he is simply awsome.

04 Sep 2020 22:30:18
I have to say, from what I’ve seen of Grujic, he’s not the quickest or most mobile?
Falls into the Fabinho / Milner category.
We saw first half last week v Arsenal, when Milner and Fabinho were in the same midfield, it lacks that dynamism.
Thiago would be another, though obviously his skills are elsewhere.
But I really don’t want to see Liverpool’s pace, dynamism and energy lost in the wrong mix.
That was always Gini’s strength, he is extremely durable and fit and we don’t miss Henderson anything like as much as we did before Gini arrived.
Gotta watch how we step here.

04 Sep 2020 22:34:38
ed001 I said yesterday about Naby for me he gives the ball away far to cheaply to often and when he is in for Gini Robbo does not get any support and seems to be left open all the time. Yet the next day you get loads of fans raving about him because he goes on a few runs with the ball. I think Naby has had plenty of time but maybe this is his last season to try and save his career with us but after all the hype before we signed him I think he needs to go up a good couple of levels from what we have seen up to now.

{Ed001's Note - I believe the same as you. Most of the time he gives the ball away making simple 5 yard passes rather than because he is trying anything dangerous. He just doesn't offer enough forward drive for us. He has been barely a shadow of the player he was.}

05 Sep 2020 01:31:20
He's going to come good. Keita that is. I really think so.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree with you Robbie. This season is sink or swim for him. If Thiago comes that will be the kick up the ass he needs. I’m fully expecting a fully charged Keita

05 Sep 2020 12:56:28
I think Keita will have a good season as well, exciting player.

05 Sep 2020 09:12:28
I hope so, Ed666 cos he is just too talented to be a failure.

{Ed0666's Note - I don’t think he’ll be a failure I just think if it doesn’t click with us he has the ability to make a stellar career somewhere else. Maybe his life IQ is not as high as it could be yet and people mature at different stages in life. It would be lovely if every young footballer had TAA’s maturity and dedication levels.
