The enigma that is Bobby Firmino. When he’s good he’s the best, but he needs to work on his finishing. At the end of the day he’s our number 9 the man closest to the goal. Put your foot through the ball and have a shot!
I’m not player bashing, I don’t want him gone. There’s probably only a handful of players in world football id break up that front three for.
But there’s nothing wrong with improving, he needs shooting practice every day him.

{Ed001's Note - he is very rarely the man closest to the goal, unless he has his back to it when he receives the ball, that is part of the reason why he is scoring less. He is dropping deeper to allow Mane and Salah to go forward.}

We have a very unique manager who has built a very unique squad. It's different, but it works. I think we'll see the style evolve over the coming season but you can be sure Klopp will make sure there is always a place in the side for Bobby.

13 Sep 2020 11:58:49
If it weren't for Firmino, the team would score far less goals. Just because he is the number 9 doesn't mean he should be the one to score all the goals, he offers far more than goals to this team. It's very simple really and many people (not saying you) look into this far too much, instead of thinking about what is actually important for the team.

13 Sep 2020 12:03:34
Every1 knows bout the dropping deeper to allow the other to to go, and I love the man. but he can't keep getting poor games and glorious chances missed being ignored because he's likeable.

{Ed001's Note - poor games? He was at the heart of our good play. The problem is fans don't see anything other than where the ball is and miss 99% of the actual game. It is not because he is likeable that he is first choice, it is because he is the best at what he does around right now. It is embarrassing that fans are on his back out of pure ignorance.}

13 Sep 2020 12:07:36
Firmino should probably score more, but since the restart the whole team hasn't been as clinical as they could be. Give it time, Bobby is still an amazing player. Attacking we still look good, just not that clinical, yesterday we defended poorly, but Leeds played very well, against any other team and I'd want them to win. Good lesson for us and good job it comes before Chelsea. The only take away I came away yesterday was, we are playing far too highly defensively, at one point we had 6 men in Leeds half at 3:2. I don't think there's anything wrong with the high press, but for many months now teams are hitting us on the counter. We have the pace and ability to score, so I think we should sit further back and press from in midfield as opposed to harassing their defenders all the time, then they can't counter us as easily.

13 Sep 2020 12:10:06
As long as Mane and Salah can get 20 goals each a season then we'll be fine and if Firmino helps by chipping in 5 plus then we'll be even better. It's clear to most fans that Firmino is there to facilitate Mane and Salah's goalscoring, there aren't many other teams in this league with 2 strikers able to score 40+ goals each season, if we had 3 then great, but 2 will be perfectly fine!

13 Sep 2020 12:15:49
Is he dropping deeper when he's through on goal and looking to pass rather than shoot? He's doing my head in. He's a great footballer but he should've had 2 yesterday that shot he hit with the outside of his right boot rather than his left when 12 yards out middle of the goal was criminal. Brewster would've scored 2 yesterday as a minimum.

{Ed001's Note - embarrassing. Is this a wind up? Knee jerk much?}

13 Sep 2020 12:37:46
'Brewster would've scored 2 yesterday as a minimum. '

And you know that how exactly?

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate, it is embarrassing the stupid comments.}

13 Sep 2020 12:39:04
Embarrassing. I'd sub off a 15 year old who did that let alone Bobby just pass the ball into the net with your weak foot or try some nonesense flick with the outside of his right boot which was going well wide but deflected for a corner. Oh an then there's the time late in the second half were he tries to pass through a Leeds player 35 yards from our goal when he was almost the last man giving them the free kick in a dangerous area. He's a wonderful footballer but he's also wishy washy and he couldn't finish his dinner and yes I am now over reacting but honestly I'm fed up of watching him through on goal only to lose the chance trying to pass to someone else.

{Ed001's Note - that is why you are a troll making stupid comments on here rather than managing a real football team.}

13 Sep 2020 12:56:59
Ed1, some people will just never be happy, no matter how good we or x player is. It's pretty damn clear some people on here don't watch the game close enough and just look at the goal tally.

Same thing with Hendo though wasn't it? a couple of years ago almost every bugger wanted him gone lol without realising what he really offered on the pitch. If Firmino scored a hatrick next week, the doom and gloomers would be nowhere to be seen.

{Ed001's Note - they would be on claiming he should have passed to Mane.}

13 Sep 2020 13:08:59
We've not lost a league game at home since April 2017 it's not good enough I tell you! 😝 If we beat Chelsea next week everyone will be back on the bandwagon.

13 Sep 2020 13:11:17
Salah. “If it weren’t for Firmino the team would score far less goals”

And you know that how exactly?

13 Sep 2020 13:32:24
Is it embarrassing to point out that the bloke has some ineffective games? is it embarrassing that if he's 8 yards out with only the goalie to beat you actually expect him to miss more than score? I love Bobby but he has quiet games and misses sitters, that's the truth. Not everyone has to agree with your opinion like sheep.

13 Sep 2020 13:35:30
He uses his eyes JK.

13 Sep 2020 13:37:47
I really couldn't fault bobby for his build up play and how much he does for the team. He's one of are most important players but most of are chances from open play fell to him and he's got to be doing better with those chances. It looks like he's lost his confidence in front of goal.

13 Sep 2020 13:38:39
We know how good he is. We know how important he is to Mane and Salah. Nobody said he wasn’t. But he needs shooting practice, and there’s not one of you that can deny that. He needs to improve in front of goal.

13 Sep 2020 13:41:28
Johnnyr1970's comment sums it up 4 me, no one is jumping on bobby after 1 match, or because Mo was the hero yesterday. But should expectations really be that low of our starting number nine who plays nearly 90 minutes of every game over the season that he should chip in with FIVE goals?, REALLY? That's my point, he can be a fabulous footballer but people have set the bar so low as to not say anything bad about him. He should be doing his usual work AND banging 15-20 goals away with the guilt edged chances he gets, and largely wastes.

13 Sep 2020 13:52:32
Something red. Cheers for that input mate 👍.

13 Sep 2020 13:57:21
JK23, it's really not that difficult is it? watch Liverpool and you'll see it for yourself. Some people seem to be blind to what happens on that pitch.

{Ed025's Note - and some people seem to think its a sin to express anything bar praise when it comes to bobby salah!, its an opinions game and if hes not playing well or missing chances then should you not be allowed to vent your views?, some on here think they are the only ones who know anything about the game and just dismiss other posters opinions, some of you need to get over yourselves mate..

13 Sep 2020 14:06:18
Exactly DW YNWA, in 2017-18 he got 27 goals in 54 games, by last year that was down to 12 in 52.It shows he CAN do it but he seriously needs to work on his finishing. He's No.9 for the champions.

13 Sep 2020 14:07:56
I thought firmino played well yesterday, guilty a few times of trying to over play but that's his game and I love it when it works. His movement and creativity yesterday were excellent and he gave Leeds a difficult time.

13 Sep 2020 14:11:01
Bobby ia a Liverpool Treasure, ne questions asked. I just wish his decision making in certain moments could be better as in knowing when to pass and when to take a shot on. That is my ONLY beef with him right now. All the other stuff, is just white noise and OTT drivel by fans who for the most part, have no clue what he brings to the team.

13 Sep 2020 14:22:24
Bobby hasn't been the same attacking force, scoring wise, since Phil left. Even that season he missed some sitters.

13 Sep 2020 14:26:35
Salah why bite to my reply. I offered the exact same reply that you offered someone else above. Double standards that don’t you think. And your reply makes out that I don’t watch Liverpool games. How have you come up with such an assumption. Another high horse I’m a better fan than the next reply. Perhaps if I changed my user name to a player and talked like I was that player himself 🤦🏻‍♂️ You would take me more seriously.

13 Sep 2020 14:56:03
Agree 100% Ed025,football geniuses in their own minds! laughing off peoples opinions.

{Ed025's Note - some people think their opinion is more valid than the next guy jadon, well its not!, we all see different things in players, tactics, coaches etc and in the end its just a view...no right or wrong mate..

13 Sep 2020 14:56:04
Not quite sure how to react to a response from someone who - embarrassingly - has a user name made up from two players who will never play for LFC TBH.

If Firmino scores 20 a season - great because then we'd have 60 goals probably from our front three which would be unique in this league. Instead he does a lot of the clever legwork to help our other two forwards score 20 goals each which is still pretty unique in the PL. Perhaps we should give him a different squad number so no-one thinks he's an Ian Rush style goalhanger?

{Ed025's Note - so now your user name defines how much you know about football johnny?, come on mate get a grip FFS, our mate akshit must know nothing then..

13 Sep 2020 14:56:34
You're not worth my time JK mate, trying to be funny with your post, you get a pretty simple reply and don't like it. I'm sorry if you don't like my opinion but it is what it is, if you don't like it then it's not going to make me lose sleep mate :) .

13 Sep 2020 15:14:00
How can Salah’s hat trick be used as a stick to beat Bobby? If Bobby had taken and scored both of those penalties yesterday would you all be giving out about Salah only scoring once? It’s a team game. Everybody has a role to play. Bobby is primarily a creator, both of space and chances for others. That is his role in the team and he is very good at it. This whole “goals and assists” tracking is ruining the game. Why is the last pass more important that the pass before the last pass which opened everything up? Why can’t you all stop glorifying individuals and instead praise the team as one. Unbelievable.

{Ed025's Note - i think you make a good point KB, but there is nothing wrong with debating a players performance either mate..

13 Sep 2020 15:31:02
Sorry Johnnyr, simply thought the two kids were fabulous young players who would be two of the best around and for the next few years from the 1st time I saw them about 3 or 4 years ago. i hoped they'd play for us one day. i guess your right though I know nothing, both of them ended up crap and will never be two of the biggest movers in the same transfer window and neither look like they have a future in the game😉😉.

13 Sep 2020 15:33:44
I’m with Ed025 on this one.

Football is about opinions, that to me, is what helps make football so talked about around the world.

I can also see both sides to the argument. Bobby is a phenomenal player, his movement and ability to create space through his unselfishness to score is irreplaceable and I would argue that whilst there’s no doubt Salah and Mane are good enough to score without him, the game would be a lot harder for the pair without doing what he does.

On the other hand, he isn’t immune from criticism in front of goal. I agree with ED01 that some people see the number 9 on his back and instantly judge him on what he does in and around the 6 yard box and negating everything else he brings. That being said, he doesn’t look confident in front of goal right now. He’s been slightly hesitant for a few months and for me it’s an area of his game that needs rekindling/ improving.

But would I drop him? No chance. Do I back him to find his scoring boots to add to everything else brings to the team, absolutely.

13 Sep 2020 15:29:38
Salah I didn’t not like your opinion. I asked the same question that you had previously asked yourself to another poster. I like Bobby and know what he brings to the team but yesterday we scored 4 without him creating or assisting any so I simply asked. You chose to make out that you’re a superior fan by suggesting I don’t watch games. We are extremely lucky to have our front 3 but I think it does Mo and Sadio a massive injustice to suggest they would score less without Bobby. Unless bobby also helps them score Plenty for Egypt and Senegal as well. You clearly haven’t got time for me so I don’t expect a reply. Take care mate and debate is always good. Just because someone disagrees with your opinion throwing toys out of your pram or bawling your eyes out isn’t always the only option.

13 Sep 2020 16:16:13
This is all about opinions, and everyone is entitled to theirs. It would be very boring if we all had the same thoughts. But at the end of the day there's a German bloke getting paid quite handsomely and his opinion regarding Bobby is the only one that counts.

{Ed025's Note - very true mate..

13 Sep 2020 17:08:51
How do I change my name anyway? wanna make it Bobby Henderson, should be safe from abuse then😁.

{Ed025's Note - dont kow-tow to the haters mate...your better than that..

13 Sep 2020 17:22:04
I said it yesterday, I don't think he had a bad game. He missed a sitter but he was involved in everything. That turn when he sent salah and mane away playing "one two" and mane tries to lob the keeper. That was brilliant. The way he keeps the ball at his feet is amazing.

13 Sep 2020 17:35:09
Your right ed, f#@k the haters. Lorius Aquilani it is so!

{Ed025's Note - love it JH.. :)

13 Sep 2020 17:41:10
Could have gone with Brendan Hodgson or Roy Rodgers mate.

{Ed025's Note - both cowboys.... :)

13 Sep 2020 17:54:40
If you're in doubt to Bobby's class, watch mo and mane when he gets the ball. They both come alive.

13 Sep 2020 18:10:41
I'm sure Bobby nd Mo are alert when sadio has the ball and Sadio and Bobby when Mo has it too. Look, he's a class player but the reasons being mentioned to back him are crazy.

13 Sep 2020 17:53:16
Ed0025 both got off to decent starts yesterday and today. I had Palace to struggle this season and Leicester were horrendous after lockdown. Your boys looking decent against Spurs as well.

{Ed025's Note - im well happy JK..

13 Sep 2020 18:21:09
Nobody disputes that Bobby is a class act, but he currently has no confidence in front of goal, which has been the case for a while.
Certain posters having a dig at JK23 and then Jadon Havertz for his username should give their heads a wobble.

It seems to be ok for certain posters to absolutely batter Naby Keita today, but those same posters turn on others who have an opinion on Bobby Firminho they don't like.

13 Sep 2020 18:52:53
Greenflash 👏.

13 Sep 2020 19:43:13
Great post green flash. this place needs more like you! 😁.

13 Sep 2020 19:49:09
Merseysides a superpower again? 😉. very good win, even if Spurs just looked downright miserable.

13 Sep 2020 19:58:38
Green flash people see certain players either getting constantly praised by maybe an Ed or the majority and they feel safe going along with that so they agree. that's fair enough, most of the time their probably right but sometimes to me it just seems needy. that's just what I honestly think. we all love Lfc here and would all like to see them win 10-0 every week and everything be rosy but that doesn't happen. i guess I'd just like to see people have their own opinion instead of the constant and obvious going along with the crowd. example if even Hendo (who I love) for example has a bad game, SAY he had a bad game.

13 Sep 2020 21:26:55
JH you are right, there is a constant pattern on this site, For example Ed01 has stated that Naby Keita is poor and should be moved on, then certain posters/ sheep seem only too happy to criticize Naby too (see earlier posts) .
Then Ed01 is a huge admirer of Firminho, so some of the same posters are too, refusing to accept any criticizm of Bobby from other posters.
I don't think anyone should be so harsh on the players right now, we are 1 game into the season in exceptional circumstances, with the players not having their usual pre season.

13 Sep 2020 21:35:20
Ed025, I'm not saying a username suggests any level of football knowledge but why is a supposed Liverpool supporter coming on here criticising a players performance under a user name that basically makes them look like a troll as they've somehow combined the name of two players who don't/ won't ever play for us.

Just seems a bit embarrassing to me so yes 'Jadon Havertz', change your name to 'Bobby Henderson' or 'Alisson Fabinho' or whatever you like so we can work out which team you actually support but no need for smartass replies really, especially the one you gave about why you chose that username, what a load of tosh that was.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think a username means anything johnny, if it was 666 it does not mean hes the devil, he is a regular poster on here and just as red as the rest of you mate..

13 Sep 2020 21:52:13
I agree were rusty, I simply posted in a conversation already talking about bobby, its just something I've thought 4 a while. at the end of the day we won, that's all that matters. Every fan knows how lucky we are at the moment and bobby is probably one of the few things we can/ can't moan about at the moment. what I will say is win or lose it won't be 4 lack of effort from this squad.

13 Sep 2020 22:00:42
Watch more conventional centre forwards. They pass the ball and then move into a position to receive the ball again. When a striker isn't looking for the killer pass you are losing seconds. Our attacks are so swift.

14 Sep 2020 08:14:51
First of all I'm a big firmino fan. His style of play means that he's never going to be prolific unless he sacrificed the strengths that he currently brings to the side. A forward doesn't need to simply have prolific numbers to be top quality as long as they affect games in other areas to improve the teams threat. Bergkamp or totti hit similar numbers to firmino in most seasons but they were still better forwards than higuain or icardi for example who would have a far superior scoring rate. Bergkamp would play in a way which helped Henry score more goals like firmino helps salah and mane so I accept that as long as we continue to have a forward line that's deadly we shouldn't be demanding firmino adds 10 more goals every season to prevent being labelled as not good enough as our CF when his impact for the team is better than 10 extra goals. Torres for example was rated far higher as a CF for liverpool in his couple of seasons where he scored double Firminos figures but as a result we sacrificed the threat of our wingers who couldn't benefit like salah and mane do alongside firmino. Bergkamp was twice the forward for arsenal than adebayor despite being half as prolific. Firmino deserves less moans based on his finishing in front of goal only, when many attackers over the years have shown you don't simply need to be prolific to earn a world class tag.

14 Sep 2020 12:09:33
I think most understand his role in the team and agree he’s the best prob in Europe at playing it, but he does need to improving his finishing when he gets one of his rare chances due to his other work he does for the team .

Yesterday he had a great chance that a defender blocked from about 10 yards out. Don’t mind defender blocking it but the shot wasn’t even going on target.
