For what its worth, here's my take on transfers, hopefully it'll calm some people down. Consistently successful teams in recent times (bayern, juve, Barcelona) have built a strong squad and then generally stuck with it, only signing players to either replace ageing ones or if a superstar suddenly becomes available, mixed with young signings, and it has led to consistent success. For the l last couple of years, we've signed mostly young players, but if you look at our squad, we only have 2 outfield players over 30, and they're our captain and vice captain, so we haven't had to replace ageing players, and finances have dictated that we haven't signed any available superstars (although the thiago pursuit would probably fall into this category) . And what has this transfer strategy yielded in the last 2 years? Only the most successful 2 years in the last 30+ years! We've signed a good lb for the squad, and have only sold lovren from the 1st team squad, so I would say we're even stronger than last season, when we absolutely romped it. There's a lot to be said for stability.

We are weak the back as its evident we are leaking goals. One thing that separated us from the city last season was our defense. We need to add a top-class Center back. Klopp's interest in Diego Carlos indicates it. I would also like to see a wide player coming in. Preferably a winger. Big daddy Divock is simply not good enough and although I do rate Shaqiri. he is not going to play more than 10 games a season.

But Klopp wanted signings. that's clear.

Good post mate. In the last year or so we've now signed Adrian (GK), Pitaluga (GK), Van den Berg (CB), Tsimiskas (LB), Elliott (AM/ RW) and Minamino (AM/ CF/ LW/ RW) .

If those 6 players had cost £120m people would be happy. The only reason there is any moaning is because we got them all for less than £30m.

Kelleher, Hoever, Williams, Phillips, Koumetio, Jones, Grujic, Wilson and Brewster all coming from the academy or loan spells might also end up like new signings as they're all still here as it stands.

Great Post rugby.

This is perhaps the best team we have ever had. In league points it is.

Champions league
European Super cup
Club world cup
Premier league.

What? These boys need improving? Why? To play the martians for the solar system cup?

Lol HMB, you couldn't be more correct mate.

Tyrion, how are we weak at the back? It is basically the same defence from last season but for Lovren, who left because he was fourth choice and couldn't get game time but we have strengthened at LB with a Greek international.

We may have got a touch complacent and/ or ring rusty but by your own admission that same defence was the difference between City and us last season.

Tyrion Lannister, in the same comment you state we are weak at the back and state we won the league because of how good our defence was.? It hasn't changed. Unless you believe Lovren was the rock holding everything together 😅.

Exactly HMB. Mr 72 Million Pounds didn't exactly do much against Brighton did he? Not saying he won't come good, but too many people just see these massive price-tags and think, "rubbish! He must be ace! Why didn't we sign him? " But the fact is there's a million armchair experts and most of these have probably never seen Havertz play, for example. Our squad really doesn't need a lot in the way of additions.
Plus, you're forgetting the U23 side that beat Everton on Sunday, without even using any of the players you mentioned. (except Kelleher, who was outstanding btw)

LOL sorry for the swear word, Eds. Not sure 'rubbish' is an accurate synonym though. Next time I'll keep it cleaner and choose my expletives more carefully. :)

It's embarrassing how some folks just want a transfer for the sake of having a transfer.
We're weak at the back - that's a corker!

My fellow (Jurgen) Meister, English fans have been brainwashed for years to believe that a team that splashes the cash will win or compete for titles whereas the team that does not, will automatically struggle. The media is to blame for such rhetoric cos in other countries, people don't really think that way.

Here a thing: Cheslea spent over 200m after they won the title with Conte. What happened the next season, they did not even make the top 4. Klopp signs virtually nobody last summer and we completely crush the league. This happened over the past 2/ 3 years, not 20/ 30 years YET nobody seems to learn anything. Signings doesn't guarantee success and at the same time, NOT making signings guarantees does not guarantee failure. Pretty simple stuff, really.
