Ed001 and Ed002, please don't get offended with my question. I've struggled all summer and reluctantly accepted the analyses from both of you that our finances are dire as a club due to C.V. and that we may not be active in the transfer market.
Did the owners go and borrow money, or are they forecasting we'll be successful again in the future and coughing up for these transfer? Don't get me wrong, it's all exciting stuff as a supporter, but I mean, where did the money come from all of a sudden? Thiago? Now Jota, and no one sold yet?

From my understanding their spend is all based on forecasts, I may be wrong but I think that is kinda what Ed2 had said before.
The Thiago deal sounds like it's been structured in a fairly inexpensive way, initially atleast, and we don't know about the Jota or Kostas deals.
It wouldn't surprise me if this has come around from a sudden confidence in selling a few players though to recoup abit of money.
Ki-Jana and Brewster leaving for circa £25m-£30m if reports are correct will balance out that spend abit youd think.

I'm left scratching my head also bro/ sis as it makes no sense to me in any case we let Werner join Chelsea and spend more on Jota hahaha, for the life of me I am confused af.

Noski, no offence mate but come on lad🤦🏻‍♂️.

I’m filing this sort of thing under DFKDFC. Or as Ed002 may say “we don’t talk about money”.

Werner was more, on 200k a week and also was when we had no guarantee of getting the money in we needed. Also would demand far more gametime. Jota is an excellent player who will only get better. Give your head a wobble lad.

@woolback so Jota will be fine watching games from the bench? No player wants that role and spending more for a player that is a little lower on quality doesn't sut well with me as a fan but that's life.

It has also to do with terms of payments. Maybe we overpaid a Little for Jota, but as far as i know we will just pay a little % of the 40millions figure this year, which will let some space for finances to adjust. I also think FSG are being Intelligent by bringing someone that will really compete for the front 3 places, and asuming he does well, they might be thinking of offloading one of our front 3 for next year, and while not asuming a Huge gamble by signing a new payer, but a player that has had a season tu adjust to the system and replace one of them.
Of course they are forecasting both things, finances and jotas performance. But it may pay off better than having huge changes next summer.
Remember all the Games we have this season and the periodos of internationals that we will be without a huge Part of the squad.

{Ed0666's Note - I think it’s a cert one of Salah or Mane is sold next summer.

Why are people not understanding the reasons why Werner not coming are related to any other arrival. First of all I'm sure the fee was demanding a large up front payment, Werner I'm sure was seeking to play as a starter and with his salary that Chelsea signed him to he'd have been one of our highest earners yet possibly not breaking into our first 11 as long as our front 3 keep performing. All those aspects played into us not seeing him as a sensible investment.

According to the press the structure of the deal and selling Hoever means we have a net income from the deal. Thiago payment is only 5m outgoing this year so we are basically spending nothing on these transfers this year is how I read it.
