If all the players that are up for sale are sold do you expect Klopp to attempt to sign a CB? Or is he happy with Fabinho filling that role?

Agree1 Disagree0

It's not a ideal situation Adamski playing a player out of position. Yes Fab had a brilliant game but you can't say he would play like that ever game. So I'd say yes if JK has the cash he'll get a proper CB in mate.

Hard to tell right now. We have Virgil, Gomez, Matip, Phillips, Koumetio, Van den Berg, and Williams. That's 7 centre backs, and i know 3 of them are between 17-19 years old, but Phillips is about 23 years old so it's now or never for him in the first team picture. We'd need to probably sell Phillips and loan out Williams or Van den Berg to make it feasible. I've not even considered that Fabinho can play there either!

Having said all that, Klopp seems to want Diego Carlos. We'll have to wait and see what develops. We're already over the non-homegrown limit remember!

Were VVD to get injured, it could be a major blow.
I think, ideally, Klopp would have another first team centre back that could mitigate or cover that absence in terms of experience, strength and seniority.
So, as explained, a Diego Carlos would go straight into the team but his value would be seen beyond a CB partnership with VVD.
You can understand that thinking anyway.

Tough one, especially after gomez showing how good he can be. And if klopp doesn't fancy Joe gomez, the best cb his age, what does that say to the likes of Big Bill and sepp?

I don't think we will see one.

Klopp keeps mentioning 'Billy The Kid' whenever talking about CB options so I get the feeling that Klopp sees him as a real 1st team option this season.
Matip, Gomez, VVD and then Fab and Koumetio as other options.

Listening to the Blood Red podcast they made a good point. Lovren was 4th choice, who would you prefer starting centre back v Chelsea a cold Lovren or dropping Fabinho back - their point being you won't get top quality for 4th choice and they won't play much so having someone like Fabinho makes more sense for cover.

Diego Carlos or a first choice, personally I think Joe Gomez is a very good centre back and I would like Klopp to back him.

MK Scouser- is that you Adam?
Have you moved back?

01 Oct 2020 06:27:30
Mk I think you hit the nail on the head for “now or never” on Phillips and I believe the answer to that is never.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe he’s made a single squad this season and some games we’ve not even had a centre half on the bench.

I agree JK, I think his days are numbered here. Would of course love to see him get his chance but I just can't see it happening.

Fab should be the very last option to play in cb!
I’m telling u know he has one bad game playing there and it’s curtains! We beat a team 7-2 the other day and a young lad (Neco) was givin abuse threats the lot!
Bad bad idea if u ask me!

Salah agree mate but I'm guessing he's been assessed and given his chance in training sessions. I know its not games but all the evidence is pointing in the direction that what Klopp has seen in training or when he's been on loan he deems he isn't good enough for actual first team game time. It is a shame but I'm sure the lad will have a decent enough career elsewhere.

Yeah I'm sure too JK mate. I think it's one of them, we are all guilty of forgetting just how good this team is, you know? which makes it much harder for the youngsters to break through, I'd love to know the percentage of the youngsters who actually do make it through to the first team. I think we all want the best for them but they have to be pretty damn special to get into a special team like Liverpool. Jones for an example, I think the lad is pretty much nailed on to break into the first team.

Fingers crossed for every youngster getting into the game, not just at Liverpool either. I believe these days it's much harder for the younger lot to do well and progress, I believe it's a mentality thing, I really do. People change as times go on, kids these days a lot of them, not all but a lot think about the money side of things instead of what's important - football. This is an issue .

When you think of young Trent for an example, kept his head down, nose clean and played football and he has thrived at it. One of my favourite players in the squad, more of this please! we can see what's important to him, he loves the club and loves the game, god knows what he is on per week but I'd bet anything he'd take half that to simply play football for the club he loves.
