It is now getting to the stage where Firmino needs to be dropped for a few games. He was the longest serving player on Sunday but he is shirking his responsibility. He can't kick it straight 5 yards in front of goal. He constantly passes when it's easier to score. When we are winning and playing well you can forgive him for passing the buck but on occasions it's got to be up to him to score goals. Trent put in a cross that he couldn't miss in the last game of the season but it's done his confidence no good.

It's like watching a golfer with the yips or a dart player who can't let go of the dart. He has a massive crisis of confidence and it's time he should be put on the bench. From the bench I believe he would be better.

OP, I see a lot of these types of posts and I can agree that Bobbie has not been playing well for a while now BUT what I do not see in their comments (like I don't see in this one) is anyone saying who should start in his place.

Is it Big Div that many people on here want gone? Is it Minamino who many think is not ready yet? So I pose the same question to you, Mark. Who would you start in place of Bobbie right now as things currently stand? Cheers, man.

I guess that depends on who’s available.

05 Oct 2020 20:05:16
Bobbies not pressing very well lately either. I’d have Mane in his place and Jota on the left. Or give minimino a go in his place. Or we just leave as is and hope he finds some form but then he really is undroppable and not sure that’s the right message to the team right now.

05 Oct 2020 20:05:17
Atm I would prefer Salah as cf, Mane right, Jota left. Or mane and Salah to keep their normal positions and play Jota or Minamino through the middle. Firmino needs to very quickly get his confidence back and it’s not going to happen by constantly missing chances. It didn’t happen for him really last season and a drop out (kick up the arse is needed) IMO. He will cost us vital points if he doesn’t improve. The chances he is getting are gilt edged.

Rm I’d go as far as saying Mo or Sadio through the middle with Jota on the left. Give bobby some head space and time off to hopefully re find his form and Mojo. Bring Hendo back into the midfield for intensity and Thiago to pull the strings. The main thing for me is dropping this high line. We’ve rode our luck with it in the past. Arsenal got through on it a few times. In the past when the opposition have got through they’ve been met by a wall in Allison. Unfortunately at the moment they are being met by a revolving door and that’s the defence as well as Adrian.

I know you really like Bobby and you are right to defend him. But I have lost confidence in him. When he runs through on goal I am just never confident and the vast majority of times he pulls the shot or passes the buck.

We have always had different opinions on him haven't we mark and that's fine mate, each to their own, you know where I stand.

Personally I think dropping him would do him no good, he needs a goal to boost his confidence again. I don't mind dropping him for the odd game here and there, rotate it around a little I'm all for that but when he's in form he's one of the best in the team. We just need to see that form return, I have no doubt we will if we stand by him.

05 Oct 2020 20:30:17
That's it RM, who plays instead. Drop Firmino. It's rubbish btw, he hasn't been his usual best but he hasn't been awful either, apart from last night. He is involved in nearly every goal.

{Ed025's Note - hmmm..

Unfortunately JK that is the high line that helped us suffocate games for the last two years. I do not believe that we will just stop.

05 Oct 2020 20:42:48
JK23, I do not think the high line is the problem cos we have been playing that way for about 3 seasons now esp. since VVD and Big Al arrived. The high line is effective IF you have the right personnel in place and most importantly, IF the press is on point. Also, you don't win as many games as we have and lost as little few games as we have by riding your luck. That is just inaccurate, IMO.

The high line will leave you exposed a couple of times BUT it is by design and if they do get thru, you can rely on your man mountain GK to smother the attack for the most part. Just like we saw with Arsenal and many other teams in the past. You cannot just drop it and then pick it up again when it suits you, IMO.

Now if you are lacking effort, hard work and focus in the press and the press is not on point, last night is what you get and you don't need to have read Ed01's game review to know that. You could see that in the game itself. We were poor in the press from top to bottom and if you are not able to press the ball effectively, the high line is useless.

What I do think we should do and I have mentioned it before, is to tweak it as in, no longer pass the ball to Adrian cos he is poor with his feet and/ or drop deep by 10 yards, all in a bid to accommodate Adrian cos he is incapable of playing in our system as it stands.

05 Oct 2020 20:54:57
Yes Salah you have always been one of his biggest fans. I fully expect you to disagree. If you watch his highlights from the 2018/ 2019 he had a brilliant season. Full pressing, sharp passing, goals, creating chances unfortunately he is a million miles from that player now. By taking him out for a few games I hope that gets him back on track.

05 Oct 2020 20:57:12
Rm you are correct mate the high line has proved to work for us in the past but teams do have to evolve as other teams work us out. Also when I said we rode our Luck I didn’t meant it in the sense that we have been lucky as we deserved the title hands down. It was just my figure of speech. What I meant was it seems teams are starting to work out potentially how to play against it. We had our usual back 4 playing last night and I lost count of the amount of times villa got in behind us and actually made it look real easy. It’s only my opinion though and I have no doubt that Klopp is going to stick with his system after all he is the expert and I’m just a arm chair fan.

05 Oct 2020 22:46:19
JK23, I agree that teams are starting to work out how to break our press and high line defensively. I expect nothing less cos like it or not, opposing coaches are well paid to figure these things out hence as you say, we have to evolve esp. now with Allison out and our defence being out of whack individually and collectively. The press has to be on pint first off tho cos if the press is whack, everything else collapses on itself. Hopefully, Klopp will see these things and make the necessary adjustments.

05 Oct 2020 23:23:11
Sorry red meister but It doesn’t take a genius to work out that the high line we play resulted in Leeds putting 3 past us and then villa putting 7 past us. They used the same tactics. get the ball, hoof it to their forwards who would then be able to run clear on goal. We were fortunate that Alison stopped arsenal from scoring but we don’t have the luxury of him playing for while so until then, I think klopp needs to look at something different. I said after the Leeds game that teams had sussed out how we play and after villa used the same tactics as Leeds did, I stand by that comment.

We are slating players who brought us the pl title. It's absolutely ridiculous. Ed025, love ya mate, but you've won 4 games, we have won that many trophies in the last 2 years! And Bobby, in the cl, psg, amazing. Can't finish? He can finish without looking boys. Give the lad a break. The world is falling to pieces. He's probably our best player btw.

06 Oct 2020 06:54:26
Come on Robbie mate. From what I’m reading is LFC fans having a good debate over the team and an awful performance from every player (bar Mo and Robbo) . The fact that your favourite player is being mentioned you’ve pulled the “slating players” card. No ones doubting Bobbys ability but just because we choose not to bury our heads in the sand doesn’t make us lesser fans.

06 Oct 2020 10:03:00
We all have our own views on things of course but personally I agree Robbie he is probably our best player, when he's on form! right now he is not on form and I can only assume that's because his confidence is shot but once he get's it back we're laughing.
He offers so much more than goals to the team it's unreal, it's not always about scoring goals. Without him how many would Salah and Mane of scored the last couple of seasons? without him forget the CL and PL win.

These kind of discussions will ALWAYS happen on any football forum, some like x player and some don't, we're all individuals who read games differently at times. Me, I absolutely love Bobby, he's really up there for me, others simply don't and that's fair enough.
